- Finished bunny stands about 8.5–9 in (22–23 cm) tall including hat, using DK yarn and suggested needles.
A firm fabric is important so stuffing doesn’t show through.
General Notes
- Work most pieces in the round from the bottom up.
- Stuff as you go, especially the feet, legs, and head, so the bunny stands securely.
- The dress, hat, basket, and mushrooms are removable except where noted; you may tack them in place if the doll is for display.
- Mushroom motifs on the dress and basket are added with duplicate stitch for crisp shapes.

Rnd 14: BO knitwise.
Basket Handle
Using CC4, CO 4 sts and knit i-cord for about 3 in (7.5 cm). BO. Sew each end to the inside rim of the basket.
Basket Front Mushroom
Using CC8 (or CC5 and CC6), duplicate stitch a single mushroom motif on the front: small cream stem and red cap with white dots.
Tiny Forest Mushrooms (Inside Basket)
Make 3–4 small mushrooms.
Caps: Using CC5, CO 4 sts, knit 2 rows, BO. Gather along the bottom edge into a little dome.
Stems: Using CC6, CO 3 sts, knit 3 rows, BO, roll into tiny tubes.
Sew each stem under a cap, add white spots with CC6. Stitch them lightly inside the basket so they peek over the rim.
Leaf Map
Using CC7 (tan), CO 6 sts.
Rows 1–6: knit every row to make a small rectangle. BO.
With green yarn, embroider a simple leaf outline with a midrib and two side veins. Fold the rectangle once to look like a little paper map and place it tucked among the mushrooms in the basket, securing with a stitch or two.
Face Embroidery
Using black yarn:
- Place two small horizontal stitches for eyes, centered slightly below mid-height of the head and spaced about 5–6 sts apart.
Using dark brown yarn:
- Work a small upside-down triangle nose just below the center point between the eyes.
- Add a short vertical stitch downward, then curve two lines outward into a gentle smile.
Secure all ends inside the head.
Assembly
- Attach ears: Position ears on either side of the head, under where the hat brim will sit, so they hang down along the cheeks. Sew securely along the base.
- Join legs: Pin legs to the bottom of the body and check that the bunny stands steadily. Stitch firmly around each leg opening, going through the body fabric several times.
- Attach arms: Sew arms to the sides of the body at shoulder level, angling slightly forward so one paw can hold the basket.
- Tail: Sew the puff tail to the center back near the base; it helps balance the bunny when standing.
- Dress the bunny: Slip the pinafore up over the feet, easing it over the hips to the waist. Position the bib centered on the chest. Cross or straighten the straps over the shoulders and sew to the bib corners. Tack the waistband to the body in a few spots to keep the dress from twisting.
- Hat: Place the rust hat so the brim sits just above the eyes, tilting slightly forward. You can leave it removable or secure with small hidden stitches through the back and sides.
- Basket: Place the basket handle over one arm so the paw appears to hold it naturally. Stitch the handle to the hand and perhaps one side of the basket to keep it balanced.
Finishing & Customization
- Adjust stuffing in the feet and tail until the bunny stands on a flat surface without support.
- Lightly steam or block the dress hem to make it hang evenly.
- For a more rustic forest look, you can add a tiny embroidered acorn or leaf near the dress hem or on one shoe.
- If making for a child, omit any wire in ears and secure all accessories firmly.
