Materials

  • DK or light worsted weight yarn in:

    2. Dress: soft sage green
    3. Vest & bow: creamy off-white
    4. Hat & basket: straw gold/mustard
    5. Shoes: caramel brown
    6. Herbs: medium green
    7. Mint sign background: cream
    8. Mint letters: darker green
    9. Optional tiny patch square colors: extra green and a small amount of warm brown
  • Set of US 2 or US 3 (2.75–3.0 mm) double-pointed needles or circular for magic loop
  • Stitch markers and tapestry needle
  • Polyester fiberfill stuffing
  • 2 black safety eyes, about 6 mm
  • A little black and pink embroidery thread for nose, mouth, whiskers
  • Small piece of cardboard (to help press the sign, optional)

Gauge & Finished Size

  • Approximate gauge: 28 sts x 36 rows = 4 in (10 cm) in stockinette in the round.
  • With this gauge, your bunny will measure around 8.5–9 in (22–23 cm) tall, not including ears.

Work tightly so stuffing does not show between stitches.

General Notes

  • The bunny is mostly knit in the round, starting from the feet and working up through the body and head.
  • Arms, ears, tail, clothes, hat, basket, and sign are made separately and sewn on.
  • Stuff firmly but evenly, shaping as you go so the proportions stay close to the sample.
  • Safety: If making for a small child, embroider eyes instead of using safety eyes.

Basket of Herbs

  2. Rnd 1: Kfb around – 12 sts.
  3. Rnd 2: K1, kfb around – 18 sts.

BO, leaving tail to sew to bunny’s hand.
For the handle, knit a short i-cord of 10–12 sts long and sew each end to opposite sides of the basket.

Herb Tufts

Using green yarn, cut several short strands, fold in half, and pull loops through a few basket stitches, then pull tails through loop to knot (like fringe). Trim ends to form little leafy clumps.

Mini “MINT” Sign

Sign Board

With cream yarn, worked flat:

  1. CO 9 sts.
  2. Rows 1–6: Work in garter stitch.
  3. BO.

With darker green yarn, embroider the word “MINT” across the center using backstitch.

Post

Using tan or straw yarn:

  1. Work a 3-stitch i-cord for about 2–2.5 in (5–6 cm).
  2. Attach top of i-cord to the back of the sign board with a few stitches.

You can insert a toothpick or tiny stick inside the i-cord if you want it stiffer (for display, not for children).

Assembly

  1. Attach ears: Sew ears symmetrically on top of the head, slightly angled outward so they curve naturally.
  2. Add tail: Sew tail to lower back of body so the bunny can balance when standing.
  3. Sew arms: Position arms slightly below neck line, angled so one can hold the basket. Stitch firmly.
  4. Dress the bunny in the sage dress, easing the skirt over the shoes and body.
  5. Put on the cream vest, aligning pockets and herb sprigs at the front.
  6. Place the hat snugly on the head between the ears and tack in place with a few stitches if desired.
  7. Sew the basket handle to one paw so it looks like the bunny is carrying fresh herbs.
  8. Position the MINT sign beside one foot; you can stitch it lightly to the shoe or simply stand it in a small pot or planter for display.

Finishing Touches & Styling

  • Adjust stuffing in the head and body by massaging the fiberfill to keep the bunny standing straight, with a soft but defined shape.
  • Use your fingers to gently shape the ears so they curve slightly toward the face.
  • Smooth the dress pleats along the purl “ridge” lines so the skirt falls neatly.
  • If you like, add a tiny blush of soft pink fabric paint or colored pencil on the cheeks for extra sweetness.
