ASSEMBLY
Legs to Body
Pin legs to underside so hooves face forward and the cow stands naturally. Stitch flat tops to Body Rnds 2–3. Keep spacing even.
Join Body to Head
Place head squarely on body; ladder stitch Body Rnd 20 to Head Rnd 19. Add extra stuffing at the front before closing to support the muzzle.
Muzzle, Eyes, Ears, Horns
- Center muzzle so its top touches the eye line. Whipstitch around; insert a small puff of stuffing just before closing.
- Embroider a minimal smile line if desired.
- Fold each ear base slightly; sew symmetrically about 6–7 sts back from crown center so ears angle outward.
- Attach horns in front of ears with a slight forward tilt.
Arms & Tail
- Sew arms at shoulder line so hands rest beside the bib; slight forward angle allows holding bottle/basket.
- Attach tail at lower back center; add tuft.
Dress the Cow
- Slide shoes on feet.
- Fit shirt yoke over head; whipstitch neckline and lower edge to body so sleeves sit mid-upper arm. Add a couple of small white surface stitches on the front to continue the gingham look.
- Pull overalls up from feet. Cross straps at back and sew to waistband; sew or glue two tiny round “buttons” to bib corners. Roll pant legs once along the FLO ridge.
- Place straw hat on head; tack at two points inside band so it stays.
- Put basket in right hand (as seen in photo) and stitch handle to palm with 2–3 invisible stitches.
- Add milk bottle to left hand and tack lightly so it hangs straight.
FINISHING & STYLING
- Face polish: embroider subtle brows one round above each eye; add the tiniest blush with pastel chalk if desired.
- Overalls seams: with F, surface stitch thin top-stitch lines along pocket edges and bib outline to mimic real denim seams, including the curved hip seam and small side pocket.
- Gingham clarity: keep white line spacing even (approx every 3 sts); avoid bulky knots to preserve the pastel feel.
- Photo-ready texture: do not brush fibers; the crisp cotton stitch definition is key to the natural, realistic look.
Troubleshooting
- Neck wobble: reopen 4–5 stitches at the join, add more stuffing, and make a second ladder-stitch pass.
- Hat brim curling upward too much: add one extra increase rnd to Brim (repeat Rnd 13 logic) or steam-block gently over a bowl.
- Overalls too tight: change Rnd 2 join from ch-3 to ch-4 bridge and add 2 sts on waist shaping rounds.
- Shirt riding up: tack the back 3–4 sts of the yoke to body Rnd 13.
