Oxford Sketcher Bunny – Free Knitting Pattern

Hình ảnh Ghim câu chuyện

Introduction

Meet the Oxford Sketcher Bunny—a cozy UK-inspired character in chinos, a blue-grey cardigan, brogue shoes, a flat cap, and a miniature satchel packed for urban sketching. This pattern focuses on crisp proportions, clean finishing, and removable accessories (cap, scarf, satchel, sketchbook) to maximize playability and photo styling. Everything is sized and shaped to match the photo: slightly oversized head (for charm), tidy cardigan with three buttons, and that irresistible flat cap.

Please note: I strive for accuracy in every pattern, but occasional errors can happen. Thank you for understanding and for enjoying my designs.

Pattern Notes

  • Work the bunny, legs, and head at tighter gauge (3.0 mm) for a firm fabric.
  • Garments & accessories can be worked on 3.25–3.5 mm.
  • Unless stated, work in the round.
  • Use invisible decreases (SSK on left, K2tog on right) where shaping needs to look crisp.
  • Stuff firmly but evenly; shape cheeks while closing the head.
  • Safety: if gifting to small children, embroider eyes instead of safety eyes and avoid wire in the visor.

Satchel (cognac; 3.25–3.5 mm)

Bag is a textured rectangle folded with a flap; strap is I-cord.

  1. Body (linen stitch look): CO 18 sts. Row 1 (RS): K1, Sl1 wyif rep; Row 2: Sl1 wyib, K1 rep. Repeat Rows 1–2 for 36 rows.
  2. Fold at 24th row so you have 12 rows as flap. Seam sides of the lower portion to form the pocket.
  3. Edge: Pick up around flap edge and I-cord bind-off or single crochet edge for firmness.
  4. Strap: Knit I-cord 3 sts for 28–30 cm, attach to side seams.
  5. Closure: Sew a tiny button or use a loop made from chained I-cord.

Sketchbook (cream & tan; 3.0–3.25 mm)

  1. Cover: CO 12 sts, st st 10 rows; BO.
  2. Pages: Cut a small rectangle of felt or folded paper and slip it inside the knit cover.
  3. Elastic band detail: CO 3 sts, knit I-cord 12–14 rows in tan, wrap around cover and stitch ends together on the back.
  4. Place under one paw; you can tack a hidden stitch to keep it from sliding.

Finishing & Assembly Order (to match the photo precisely)

  1. Dress bunny in chinos first; roll cuffs so the oatmeal fold shows just above the shoes.
  2. Put on cardigan and fasten three buttons.
  3. Wrap the scarf once and tuck ends down.
  4. Place satchel strap from right shoulder to left hip; sew one invisible tack under the strap at shoulder so it lies flat.
  5. Sit bunny on a wooden surface; angle feet slightly outward; tie brogue laces with small bows.
  6. Position sketchbook under the left paw.
  7. Pop on the flat cap, tilted slightly forward; tack two tiny stitches (removable) to keep its angle.
  8. Lightly steam-block garments (avoid the stuffed body).
  9. Photograph with soft natural light against a pastel, real-life background for the exact look.

Quality Control (for a 100% match)

  • Head shape: Before closing crown, pinch cheeks and add a touch more stuffing to the lower sides for that gentle smile.
  • Eye line: Make sure eyes are level and ~1.8 cm apart; nudge with the tapestry needle if needed.
  • Cap proportion: Crown should overhang the band a little; visor short and firm, not floppy.
  • Cardigan V: Verify the three buttons align and the V-front does not gape; adjust blocking if needed.
  • Satchel drop: Bottom of bag should rest against the left thigh.
  • Shoes: Keep toe roundness; check brogue dots are centered.

Care & Safety

Spot-clean garments; avoid soaking the stuffed body. If the toy is for a baby/toddler, replace safety eyes with embroidered eyes and omit wire in the visor.
