Short brim: PU 28 sts across front; work flat in garter for 6 rows; on next row k2tog at both ends; work 2 more rows; BO. Lightly steam; insert small curved card if desired; tack brim to crown edge for the newsboy look.

Fold body to form a pocket (row 1 meets row 14); mattress-stitch sides.
Strap (integrated, no twisting): CO 3 sts, knit i-cord to 28–30 cm (fits diagonally from left hip to right shoulder). Stitch one end to back-top left of satchel, pass across bunny’s chest, and stitch securely at back-top right so the strap lies flat—no gaps or floating.
Sew 1 tiny button onto flap; create button loop with chained yarn loop or yo, k2tog eyelet during last garter row.

Lantern (mustard with pale-yellow “glow”, fully knitted)

Base: CO 6 sts; kfb around to 12; next rnd (k1, kfb) × 6 – 18; next rnd (k2, kfb) × 6 – 24.

Glow insert: Stuff center with pale-yellow fiberfill (or wrap a small felt ball) to give the warm look.
Handle: i-cord 2 sts, knit 8–9 cm; attach ends opposite each other on top rim.
Hanging grip: Stitch bunny’s right hand around handle; add one tack at hip so lantern rests naturally.

Assembly

  1. Ears to Head: Pin ears with a slight backward set: bases sit 6 sts behind the head’s top centerline, slanting down about 10–15°. Sew securely; sculpt a gentle inward curve with a couple of anchoring stitches.
  2. Head to Body: Center and ladder-stitch closed head opening to body top. Add a tiny wedge of stuffing at the front neck to keep the chin lifted slightly.
  3. Arms: Attach at body Rnds 28–29, symmetric about center, angled downward so hands rest near lap.
  4. Legs/Seated Balance: Sew legs to base so the boot soles sit flat when seated. If needed, add a counterweight pebble or small bean pouch inside each boot toe before final closing for stability.
  5. Face: Tighten eye line slightly from back of head with a concealed stitch to create gentle cheek definition.
  6. Clothing: Dress bunny in trousers, then cardigan. Add buttons. Put on flat cap.
  7. Satchel: Place bag on left hip, strap crossing to right shoulder. Tack strap to the cardigan at shoulder seam and to the back to prevent drifting.
  8. Lantern: Position in right hand; stitch handle to palm and add one hidden tack to thigh so it hangs naturally.

Finishing Touches & Tips

  • Blocking: Light steam only—do not over-block; you want firm stitch definition.
  • Strap alignment: Ensure strap lies flat across the chest; if it wants to lift, run a hidden couching stitch along the strap edge into the cardigan front.
  • Button security: For safety (gifts for older children/adults), sew buttons with extra passes and secure knots on the inside.
  • Cap shaping: A small crescent of card between brim layers gives the classic newsboy curve; tack its edges so it doesn’t shift.
  • Lantern glow: If used as décor, you can nest a mini felt “flame” (tiny triangle of orange felt) behind the yellow stuffing for depth—still fully soft and knitted on the outside.
  • Care: Spot clean only; keep away from high heat.

Exact Placement Map (for photo match)

  • Eyes: between Head Rnds 18–19, 10 sts apart.
  • Nose/Mouth: centered at Rnd 21, width 4 sts, short vertical mouth line 2–3 mm.
  • Ears: base begins 6 sts behind top center; spacing 14 sts between inner bases.
  • Arms: attach between Body Rnds 28–29; 18 sts apart at front.
  • Tail: back center, 3 rnds above leg seam.
  • Satchel: bag size after seaming ≈ 5 cm wide × 4 cm tall; strap length 28–30 cm in i-cord; anchor at right shoulder seam and left back waist for the neat diagonal.
  • Lantern: cylinder height 5.5–6 cm, diameter 3.2–3.5 cm; handle arches 2.5–3 cm above top.

Troubleshooting

  • Lantern collapsing: Add a tiny inner roll of scrap felt to core before stuffing with yellow; keep outer knit taut.
  • Cap too snug/loose: Adjust CO by ±4 sts, then keep 8-wedge crown shaping proportional.
  • Cardigan gaping: Move button positions 1–2 sts toward edge; steam lightly to settle.

Yarn & Color Map (as pictured)

  • Body: Cream
  • Cardigan & Cap: Olive green
  • Trousers/Cuffs: Camel/tan
  • Boots & Satchel & Nose: Chestnut/brown
  • Lantern: Mustard with pale-yellow center

Safety & Audience

This project is intended as decor/collectible or for children over 3 due to small parts (buttons/eyes). Substitute embroidered eyes and sewn-on felt buttons for baby-safe versions.
