The “Baby’s Breath” Cloud Wagon – Free Crochet Pattern

Welcome to the most ethereal and romantic stop on our crochet journey. The “Baby’s Breath” Cloud Wagon is a dreamy, soft creation inspired by the delicate Gypsophila flower (commonly known as Baby’s Breath) and the fluffy texture of Angora wool. This caravan is designed to look like a floating cloud. The exterior features a soothing Light Pastel Blue body, but the defining feature is the roof: it is completely covered in thousands of tiny white wool dots, creating a dense, floral, cloud-like texture.

The interior is a wedding planner’s dream, embracing a “Rustic Wedding” aesthetic. The space is filled with giant, fluffy bouquets of Baby’s Breath, rolled-up scrolls of brown kraft paper tied with jute twine, and delicate lace ribbons. A tiny wedding invitation sits on the counter. Outside, a luxurious white Angora Rabbit—crocheted to look as soft as a flower—sits on a cushioned chair, while a vintage white bicycle loaded with baskets of flowers completes the scene. This project requires patience for the tiny knots, but the result is magical.

Because the roof texture is dense and heavy, and the interior bouquets need a stable backdrop, we will strictly use the “3-Layer Sandwich Method” (Yarn – Plastic Canvas – Yarn). This technique is mandatory. It ensures the Pastel Blue walls stand rigid and straight, preventing the “cloud” roof from collapsing the structure. We will alternate between a standard hook for the shell and a precision micro-hook for the thousands of tiny flowers.

Please note: I strive for accuracy in every pattern, but occasional errors can happen. Thank you for understanding and for enjoying my designs.

Materials & Tools

  • Yarn: Sport or DK weight for the structure; Lace weight/Thread for flowers.

    Pastel Blue: Main exterior walls.

Cloud White (Wool/Acrylic): Roof texture (needs to be slightly fluffy).

White Thread (Size 10 or 20): Baby’s Breath flowers, bicycle, lace.

Kraft Brown/Tan: Paper scrolls, baskets, floor.

Mohair or Brushed Yarn (White): Angora Rabbit.

    Jute/Beige: Twine details.

    Black: Tires, rabbit eyes.

  • Hooks:

2.5mm (Size C/2): For the caravan shell, floor, and chair.

0.75mm – 1.0mm (Steel Hook): CRITICAL for the Baby’s Breath clusters, lace, and bicycle spokes.

  • Structure: 7-8 sheets of Plastic Canvas (7-mesh stiffness).
  • Other: Fiberfill stuffing, white floral wire (essential for flower stems and bike frame), fabric glue, tapestry needle.

Abbreviations (US Terms)

  • MR: Magic Ring
  • Ch: Chain
  • Sc: Single Crochet
  • Hdc: Half Double Crochet
  • Dc: Double Crochet
  • Inc: Increase (2 sc in one st)
  • Dec: Decrease (invisible decrease)
  • BLO: Back Loop Only
  • Sl st: Slip Stitch
  • French Knot: Embroidery stitch (wrap yarn around needle 2-3 times, insert back close to start).
  • Picot: Ch 3, sl st in 1st ch.

Part 1: The Cloud Structure (Sandwich Method)

Use Hook Size: 2.5mm.

1. The Wooden Floor Base

Make 2 identical panels using Kraft Brown/Tan yarn.

  1. Row 1: Ch 30. Sc in 2nd ch from hook and across. (29)
  2. Row 2-45: Sc across. (Rectangle approx 4.5″ x 7″).
  3. Fasten off Panel 1. Keep yarn attached to Panel 2.

Assembly: Cut plastic canvas to the exact size. Sandwich it between the two panels. Sc around the perimeter through both layers to seal.

2. The Pastel Shell (U-Shaped)

This forms the Left Wall, Roof Base, and Right Wall.

Panel A: Exterior (Pastel Blue)

  • Row 1: Ch 95 (Length to cover Left + Roof + Right). Sc across.
  • Rows 2-35: Sc across. Create a smooth blue canvas.
  • Window Cutouts: On the side wall (Left), cut a large rectangular window to view the flowers. The Right side is the open viewing stage.

Panel B: Interior (Pastel Blue or White)

  • Use White to keep the interior airy. Match dimensions and window gaps of Panel A.

Assembly:

  • Cut plastic canvas strip (with window holes).
  • Sandwich canvas between Panel A and Panel B.
  • Join: Sc around the perimeter using Pastel Blue.
  • Shape: Bend into a U-shape arch. Sew the bottom edges to the Floor Base.
  • Back Wall: Make a solid sandwich panel (Blue/White) to close the back.

3. The “Cloud” Roof Texture

This is the signature detail. Use Fluffy White Yarn.

  • Technique: We will not just crochet rows; we will embroider.

Step 1: Crochet a mesh overlay (Ch 20, *Dc, Ch 1, Sk 1*) to fit over the roof section. Sew this to the roof.

Step 2: Using a tapestry needle and thick White yarn, cover the entire roof mesh with French Knots.

Density: The knots must be packed tightly together so no blue shows through. It should look like a bumpy, soft cloud or a carpet of white flowers.

Alternative: If embroidery is too slow, crochet a panel of *Bobble Stitches* (5-dc bobble) in every single stitch and sew it to the roof.

Part 2: The Baby’s Breath Interior (Maximalism)

IMPORTANT: Switch to 0.75mm – 1.0mm Hook. This requires patience!

1. Baby’s Breath (Gypsophila) Clusters

  • The Flower (Make hundreds): Use White Thread.

Pattern: Ch 2. In the 1st ch, work (Sl st, Ch 2, Sl st, Ch 2, Sl st). This creates a tiny irregular knot/cluster. Fasten off.

  • The Stems: Use thin Green or White floral wire. Dip the tip in glue and attach the tiny thread flower.
  • The Bouquet: Twist 10-15 wire stems together to form a “Cloud” of flowers. Make 10 large bouquets.

Placement: Fill the interior corners. Use Tan yarn to crochet “baskets” (MR 6, Inc to 18, BLO Sc up) and stuff them with these floral clouds.

2. Rustic Wedding Decor

  • Kraft Paper Scrolls: Tan Yarn. Ch 8. Sc 6 rows. Tightly roll into a tube. Tie with a piece of Jute twine. Make 5-6 scrolls.
  • Wedding Invitation: White Thread (0.75mm hook). Ch 6. Sc 4 rows.

Detail: Embroider squiggly lines in Gold or Grey thread to represent cursive text. Lean against a bouquet.

  • Lace Ribbon: White Thread. Ch 30. *Ch 3, Sk 2, Sc, Ch 3, Sk 2, Shell (5 dc)* repeat. Drape this lace runner across the floor or a shelf.

Part 3: The Angora Rabbit & Chair

Use 1.0mm Hook and Brushed Yarn.

1. The Angora Rabbit

  • Texture Trick: Use Mohair yarn or regular acrylic and brush it vigorously with a pet slicker brush after crocheting to create the long “Angora” fur.
  • Body: White. MR 6 sc, Inc to 12. Sc 5 rounds. Dec to 6. Brush until fluffy.
  • Head: MR 6 sc, Inc to 12. Sc 3 rounds. Dec to 6. Brush.

Ears: Ch 5. Sc back. (Long upright ears). Brush.

  • Face: Embroider a tiny pink Y-nose hidden in the fluff.

2. Cushioned Chair

  • Seat: Cream/White. Ch 8. Sc 8 rows. Cube shape (stuffed).
  • Backrest: Ch 8. Sc 10 rows. Sew to seat.
  • Texture: Use the “Cloud” technique (French Knots) on the cushion surface to make it look like floral fabric. Seat the rabbit here.

Part 4: The White Bicycle

Use 1.0mm Hook and White Thread + Wire.

1. The Bicycle Frame

  • Frame: Bend white floral wire into a bike shape (two triangles and handlebars).

Covering: Wrap the wire tightly with White thread. Secure with glue.

2. Wheels

  • Tire: Black thread. Ch 15 loop. Sc around tightly.
  • Spokes: Use White thread to stitch a star/asterisk pattern inside the tire.

Assembly: Glue wheels to the wire frame.

3. Flower Baskets

  • Basket: Tan. MR 5 sc. BLO Sc 3 rounds.

Cargo: Fill with Baby’s Breath clusters (from Part 2). Glue the basket to the back rack of the bike.

Part 5: Finishing & Assembly

1. Wheels (Caravan)

Use 2.5mm Hook.

  • Tire: Black. MR 6 sc, Inc to 12, (1, Inc) to 18. Sc 2 rounds.
  • Hubcap: Pastel Blue. MR 6 sc.
  • Sew to the sides of the wagon.

2. Final Staging

  1. Structural Check: Ensure the Pastel Blue walls are rigid (Sandwich Method). The “Cloud” roof should be fully textured with no gaps.
  2. Interior Arrangement:
    • Fill the back wall with the giant Baby’s Breath bouquets. It should look like an explosion of white fluff.
    • Stack the Kraft Paper Scrolls and the Wedding Invitation in the foreground.
    • Drape the Lace Ribbon over the edge.
  3. Exterior Scene:
    • Position the White Bicycle parked near the hitch, loaded with flowers.
    • Place the Cushioned Chair with the Angora Rabbit sitting on it outside.
