The “Plant Mom” Greenhouse – Free Crochet Pattern

Welcome to the ultimate sanctuary for botanical enthusiasts! The “Plant Mom” Greenhouse is a breathtaking miniature crochet project that transforms a vintage caravan into a lush, light-filled conservatory. This design is affectionately named for those of us who believe you can never have too many plants. The exterior features a soothing Sage Green or Mint body, but the real showstopper is the roof structure, which features “glass” skylights (created with clear plastic inserts or light blue yarn) to let the imaginary sun nourish the jungle inside.

The interior is a maximalist dream of chlorophyll. It is packed floor-to-ceiling with realistic miniature flora. You will find a rare Variegated Monstera (Albo) with stunning white and green leaves, trailing String of Pearls hanging from the ceiling in macramé planters, and shelves stacked with succulents, cacti, and ferns. The center of the room features a cozy “wicker” peacock chair, inviting you to sit and admire the greenery. Essential gardening tools, tiny watering cans, and sacks of potting soil complete the scene. This project is intricate, rewarding, and the perfect way to immortalize your love for gardening.

Because a greenhouse requires thin, rigid walls to hold the heavy shelving and hanging plants without collapsing, we will strictly use the “3-Layer Sandwich Method” (Yarn – Plastic Canvas – Yarn). This technique is non-negotiable. It creates the architectural stability needed to support the structure, especially with the large open viewing side. We will alternate between a standard hook for the main shell and a precision micro-hook for the delicate leaves and tiny garden trowels.

Please note: I strive for accuracy in every pattern, but occasional errors can happen. Thank you for understanding and for enjoying my designs.

Materials & Tools

  • Yarn: Sport or DK weight cotton yarn (Mercerized cotton is best for sharp leaf definition).

Sage Green / Mint: Main exterior walls.

Plant Colors: Forest Green, Lime Green, Olive, White (for variegation).

Pot Colors: Terracotta Rust, Stone Grey, Beige.

    Wood Color: Shelving units, floor.

    Wicker Beige: Armchair.

Accessory Colors: Blue (watering can), Silver (tools), Burlap/Tan (soil bags).

    Black: Tires.

  • Hooks:

2.5mm (Size C/2): For the caravan shell, floor, and furniture.

1.0mm – 1.25mm (Steel Hook): CRITICAL for the tiny leaves, macramé cords, and tool details.

  • Structure: 8-9 sheets of Plastic Canvas (7-mesh stiffness).
  • Special: Clear rigid plastic (from packaging or binder dividers) to create the skylight windows on the roof.
  • Other: Fiberfill stuffing, thin floral wire (essential for poseable plant stems), fabric glue, tapestry needle, embroidery floss (black) for soil bag text.

Part 1: The Greenhouse Structure (Sandwich Method)

Use Hook Size: 2.5mm.

1. The Wood-Look Floor

Make 2 identical panels using Wood Brown yarn.

  1. Row 1: Ch 30. Sc in 2nd ch from hook and across. (29)
  2. Row 2-45: Sc across. (Rectangle approx 4.5″ x 7″).
  3. Fasten off Panel 1. Keep yarn attached to Panel 2.

Assembly: Cut plastic canvas to the exact size. Sandwich it between the two brown panels. Sc around the perimeter through both layers to seal.

2. The Skylight Shell (U-Shaped)

This forms the Left Wall, Roof, and Right Wall. The roof is the tricky part.

Panel A: Exterior (Sage Green)

  • Left Wall (Rows 1-15): Ch 95. Sc across first 15 rows in Sage Green.
  • The Roof (Rows 16-30): This area needs openings for the skylights.

Pattern: Sc 5, Ch 20 (skip 20), Sc 5, Ch 20 (skip 20), Sc remaining.

On the next row, Sc into the chains to re-establish the solid frame. This creates two large rectangular holes in the roof section.

  • Right Wall (Rows 31-45): Sc solid rows.
  • Side Cutouts: On the Left Wall section, cut a rectangular window. The Right Wall section is the large open viewing area.

Panel B: Interior (White)

  • Use White yarn to reflect light inside. Create the same dimensions and skylight holes as Panel A.

Assembly & Skylights:

  • The Glass: Cut pieces of clear plastic slightly larger than the roof holes. Sandwich them *between* Panel A and Panel B during assembly.
  • Plastic Canvas: Cut canvas strips for the solid wall parts. Do not put canvas over the skylight holes (or use clear plastic canvas if available).
  • Join: Sandwich everything together. Sc around the perimeter in Sage Green. Sc around the interior skylight frames to secure the clear plastic panes.
  • Shape: Bend into a U-shape. Sew bottom edges to the Floor Base.
  • Back Wall: Make a solid sandwich panel (Sage/White) to close the back.

Part 2: The Botanical Collection (Micro-Crochet)

IMPORTANT: Switch to 1.0mm Hook. This is where the magic happens.

1. Variegated Monstera (The Star)

  • Leaf: Use Green and White yarn, switching colors mid-row for the “Albo” look.

Ch 8. Sc, Hdc, Dc, Tr… work lobed edges by skipping stitches or chaining gaps. Make 4-5 large leaves.

  • Stems: Green floral wire wrapped in yarn. Glue leaves to wire.
  • Pot: Terracotta. MR 6 sc, Inc to 15. BLO Sc up. Insert stems.

2. Hanging Plants

3. Cacti & Succulents

  • Tall Cactus: Green. Ch 10. BLO Sc (Ribbing). Sew into a tube. Wire inside. Add pink flower on top.
  • Round Cactus: MR 6 sc, Inc to 18. Sc 3 rnds. Dec to close. Embroider white prickly dots.

1. Wicker Peacock Chair

Use Beige yarn.

  • Seat: MR 6 sc, Inc to 18. Flat circle.
  • Base: BLO Sc 4 rounds. (Cylinder base).
  • Backrest (The Fan): Ch 25. Work Sc rows, decreasing at the sides to create an arch.

Texture: Outline the arch with a Ruffled Edge (*Sc, Ch 2, Sc* in each st) to mimic ornate wicker work. Sew to the seat.

2. Wooden Shelving Units

Make 2 units (Tall and Short). Use Light Wood yarn.

  • Shelves: Ch 12. Sc 4 rows. Make 3 strips (shelves).
  • Frame: Use toothpicks or stiff wire wrapped in yarn for the vertical posts. Glue shelves to posts.
  • Placement: Place one unit on the left and one on the right inside the caravan.

3. Gardening Accessories

  • Watering Can: Light Blue. MR 5 sc, Inc to 10. BLO Sc 5 rounds.

  • Sew to sides.

2. Hitch

  • Assembly: Sage Green. Crochet a triangular frame at the front with a small jockey wheel.

Final Assembly

  1. Structural Check: Ensure the skylights are secure and the roof does not sag. The sandwich walls must be stiff to act as a proper room box.
  2. Interior Landscaping (The fun part):
    • Glue the Shelving Units to the walls.
    • Place the Wicker Chair in the center back, angled slightly.
    • Hanging Garden: Attach the String of Pearls and Ferns to the ceiling beams (yarn between the skylights).
    • Shelf Stocking: Fill every inch of shelf space with your tiny Cacti, Succulents, and the Watering Can.
    • Floor: Place the large Monstera pot and Snake Plants on the floor flanking the chair. Stack the Potting Soil bags near the entrance.
  3. Exterior:
    • Keep the exterior relatively clean to let the interior view shine, or add one large potted plant near the hitch.
