Welcome to the wilderness! The “Lupine” Wildflower Van is a tribute to the majestic, towering blooms found in the high meadows of North America and Northern Europe. Unlike the cultivated garden themes, this project captures the spirit of adventure, hiking, and the wild outdoors. The exterior design features a breathtaking Lavender Purple Ombre effect, transitioning from a deep, rich violet at the base to a soft, ethereal lilac at the roof, mimicking the twilight sky over a mountain range.
Peer through the open side to discover a hiker’s sanctuary. The interior is dominated by tall, vertical columns of Lupine flowers in shades of indigo, pink, and blue. These aren’t just simple flowers; they are textured architectural marvels created using stacked stitches to mimic the plant’s kernel-like blooms. The floor is scattered with the tools of an explorer: a rugged travel backpack, a detailed topographic map, a vintage camera for capturing memories, and a sturdy pair of hiking boots kicked off after a long trek. Outside, a grey Wolf Cub sits howling gently at the moon (or perhaps just admiring the van), guarding the campsite alongside a pile of mountain rocks. A purple sunshade umbrella adds a final touch of comfort to this nomadic home.
To create the smooth, curved roof and ensure the ombre walls stand perfectly straight without buckling, we will strictly use the “3-Layer Sandwich Method” (Yarn – Plastic Canvas – Yarn). This technique is essential. It provides the hidden rigidity needed to support the attached sunshade and keeps the caravan boxy and neat, distinguishing it from a soft stuffed toy. We will switch between a standard hook for the structural shell and a fine micro-hook for the intricate flower kernels and tiny camping gear.
Please note: I strive for accuracy in every pattern, but occasional errors can happen. Thank you for understanding and for enjoying my designs.

Part 1: The Ombre Structure (Sandwich Method)
Use Hook Size: 2.5mm.
1. The Camper Floor
Make 2 identical panels using Tan or Light Brown.
- Row 1: Ch 30. Sc in 2nd ch from hook and across. (29)
- Row 2-45: Sc across. (Rectangle approx 4.5″ x 7″).
- Fasten off Panel 1. Keep yarn attached to Panel 2.
Assembly: Cut plastic canvas to the exact size. Sandwich it between the two panels. Sc around the perimeter through both layers to seal.
2. The Gradient Shell (U-Shaped)
This forms the main body. The color change is the most important aesthetic feature.
Panel A: Exterior (The Ombre)
- Start with Deep Violet.
- Row 1: Ch 95 (Length to cover Left + Roof + Right). Sc across.
- Rows 2-12: Sc across in Deep Violet.
- Change to Medium Lavender.
- Rows 13-24: Sc across in Medium Lavender.
- Change to Pale Lilac.
- Rows 25-36: Sc across in Pale Lilac.
- Window Cutouts: On the side wall (Left), cut a rectangular window in the Lavender/Lilac zone. The Right side is the open viewing stage.
Panel B: Interior (Pale Lilac)
- Use the lightest Pale Lilac color for the entire interior to keep it bright. Match dimensions and window gaps of Panel A.
Assembly:
- Cut plastic canvas strip (with window holes).
- Sandwich canvas between Panel A and Panel B.
- Join: Sc around the perimeter. Try to match the yarn color to the section you are stitching (Violet at bottom, Lilac at top) for a seamless finish.
- Shape: Bend into a U-shape arch. Sew the bottom edges to the Floor Base.
- Back Wall: Make a solid sandwich panel following the same Ombre color pattern to close the back.
3. The Sunshade Umbrella
- Canopy: Deep Violet. MR 6 sc, Inc to 12. *Sc, Inc* to 24. *Sc 3, Inc* to 30. Sc 2 rounds. Scallop edge: *Sk 1, 5 dc in next, Sk 1, Sl st*.
- Pole: Wrap a thick wire or wooden dowel in Tan yarn. Glue to the exterior side wall so the umbrella hangs over the roof.

Part 2: The Lupine Garden (Textured Stalks)
IMPORTANT: Switch to 1.0mm – 1.25mm Hook.
1. The Lupine Flowers
Make 5-6 stalks in Blue, Pink, and Purple.
- The Stalk Core: Cut a 3-inch length of green floral wire. Crochet a very thin green tube (Ch 4, join, sc around) to cover the bottom 1 inch.
- The Flower Spike: We build the flowers directly onto the top part of the wire or a foundation chain covering the wire.
Foundation: Ch 15 (Green).
The Kernels: Switch to Flower Color (e.g., Pink). In the 1st ch, work a Popcorn Stitch (or a 3-dc cluster). Sl st in next ch.
Layering: Continue working Popcorn stitches up the chain, tapering them slightly at the top by using Hdc clusters instead of Dc.
Result: A dense, cone-shaped spike of bumpy texture resembling a Lupine.
- Leaves: Green. Lupine leaves are palmate (star-shaped).
Center: MR.
Leaflets: *Ch 5, Sl st back* repeat 5-6 times into the ring. Sew these clusters to the base of the stalk.
- Pots: Terracotta. MR 6 sc, Inc to 15. BLO Sc up. Glue the stalks inside with styrofoam/stuffing.
Part 3: The Adventure Gear
Use 1.0mm Hook. Tiny details matter here.
1. Travel Backpack
- Main Bag: Tan/Brown. Ch 8. Sc 8 rows. Fold into a box shape. Stuff firmly.
- Flap: Ch 8. Sc 4 rows. Dec at corners to round. Sew to top.
- Pockets: Tiny squares sewn to the front and sides.
- Straps: Dark Brown chain loops on the back. Place in the center of the floor.
2. Hiking Boots (Make 2)
- Sole: Dark Brown. Ch 4 oval.
- Upper: Lighter Brown. BLO Sc 2 rounds.
Laces: Use yellow thread to make tiny criss-cross stitches on the front. Place them near the entrance.
3. Vintage Camera
- Body: Black/Silver. Ch 5. Sc 3 rows. Sew into a tiny brick.
- Lens: Black. MR 4 sc. Sew to front.
- Strap: Black thread loop. Place on the floor or on the map.
4. Topographic Map
- Base: Beige/White. Ch 8. Sc 6 rows. (Flat rectangle).
- Details: Use Green and Brown embroidery thread. Stitch squiggly contour lines and a tiny “X” to mark the spot. Lay it flat on the floor or under the camera.
Part 4: The Exterior & The Wolf Cub
1. The Wolf Cub
Use 1.25mm Hook. Colors: Grey and White.
- Head: Grey. MR 6 sc, Inc to 12. Sc 3 rounds.
Muzzle: White. MR 4 sc, Inc to 8. Sew to front of face. Embroider black nose.
- Ears: Grey. Ch 3, Sc, Hdc. (Pointy triangles). Sew to top of head.
- Body: Grey. MR 6 sc, Inc to 12. Sc 5 rounds. Dec to 6.
Chest Patch: White oval sewn to the chest.
- Legs: Grey. Ch 4 tight tubes. Make 4.
Paws: Dip tips in White yarn.
- Tail: Grey. Ch 6. Sc back. Brush it to make it bushy.
- Pose: Sew the legs so the wolf is in a sitting position, head tilted up (howling) or looking at the flowers. Place outside the van.
2. Mountain Rocks
Use 2.5mm Hook and Stone Grey.
- Rocks: MR 6 sc… increase randomly to make irregular blobs. Make 3-4 rocks. Stack them near the front hitch.
3. Wheels
- Tire: Black. MR 6 sc, Inc to 12, (1, Inc) to 18. Sc 2 rounds.
- Hubcap: Silver spiral.
- Sew to sides in the Violet section.
Final Assembly
- Structural Check: Ensure the Ombre transition is smooth. The walls must be rigid (sandwich method) to hold the shape against the tall flowers inside.
- Interior Installation:
- Glue the Potted Lupines in a cluster, varying their heights. The tallest should reach near the ceiling.
- Position the Backpack centrally.
- Place the Map and Camera casually on the floor.
- Leave the Boots near the “door” opening.
- Exterior Staging:
- Secure the Umbrella to the side.
- Arrange the Mountain Rocks at the front.
- Place the Wolf Cub sitting next to the rocks, interacting with the scene.
Congratulations! You have completed the “Lupine” Wildflower Van. It is a stunning piece of nature-inspired art, ready for a miniature expedition.
