The “Poinsettia” Holiday Shed – Free Crochet Pattern

Welcome to the most festive stop on our miniature journey! The “Poinsettia” Holiday Shed is a vibrant celebration of the Christmas spirit, encapsulating the warmth and joy of the season in a tiny, crocheted package. This caravan features a luxurious exterior palette of Velvet Red and Dark Green, mimicking the traditional colors of the holidays, accented with sparkling Gold window frames. The roof is blanketed in a thick layer of white “snow,” making it look like a winter cabin retreat.

Step inside, and you are immediately greeted by the star of the show: the Poinsettia. The interior floor is filled with pots of these magnificent plants, featuring bright red, star-shaped bracts and sunny yellow centers. The scene is maximalist and cozy, with a faux brick fireplace roaring with warmth, hung with tiny stockings waiting for treats. The room is scattered with wrapped gifts in red and blue, and festive velvet ribbons drape from the ceiling. Outside, a cute Reindeer with a shining red nose stands guard next to a flower pot, welcoming guests to this winter wonderland.

This project is designed to be a sturdy, heirloom-quality decoration. To ensure the walls remain straight and can support the heavy “snow” roof, we will strictly use the “3-Layer Sandwich Method” (Yarn – Plastic Canvas – Yarn). This technique is non-negotiable for this pattern, as it provides the necessary rigidity to keep the shed boxy and durable. We will alternate between a standard hook for the main structure and a precision micro-hook for the tiny holiday details.

Please note: I strive for accuracy in every pattern, but occasional errors can happen. Thank you for understanding and for enjoying my designs.

Snow White: Roof overlay, stocking trim.

Brick Red / Rust: Fireplace structure.

    Royal Blue: Gift boxes.

Part 1: The Holiday Structure (Sandwich Method)

Use Hook Size: 2.5mm

1. The Forest Green Floor

Make 2 identical panels using Dark Forest Green.

  1. Row 1: Ch 26. Sc in 2nd ch from hook and across. (25)
  2. Row 2-40: Sc across. (Rectangle approx 4″ x 6.5″).
  3. Fasten off Panel 1. Keep yarn attached to Panel 2.

Assembly: Cut plastic canvas to the exact size of the crochet piece. Sandwich it between the two green panels. Sc around the perimeter through both layers to seal. This creates the sturdy base.

2. The Two-Tone Shell (U-Shaped)

This forms the Left Wall, Roof (Base), and Right Wall. The color change creates the wainscoting effect.

Panel A: Exterior (Green & Red)

  • Start with Dark Forest Green.
  • Row 1: Ch 91 (Length to cover Left Wall + Roof + Right Wall). Sc across. (90)
  • Row 2-12: Sc across (Green Bottom Section).
  • Change to Velvet Red.
  • Row 13-35: Sc across (Red Top Section).
  • Window Cutouts: On the side wall sections (in the Red area), create square window openings (Ch 10, Sk 10).
  • Fasten off.

Panel B: Interior (Green/Red or Cream)

  • You can match the exterior colors or make the interior Cream for a brighter look. Match dimensions and window gaps of Panel A.

Assembly:

  • Cut plastic canvas strip (with window holes).
  • Sandwich canvas between Panel A and Panel B.
  • Join: Sc around the perimeter through both layers. Use Green for the bottom edge and Red for the rest.
  • Gold Trim: Before bending, use Gold yarn to surface slip stitch around the window openings to create the “Gold-framed windows.”
  • Shape: Bend into a U-shape arch. Sew the bottom edges to the Floor Base.
  • Back Wall: Make a solid sandwich panel (Green bottom, Red top) to close the back.

3. The Snowy Roof Overlay

Use Snow White yarn.

  • Base: Ch to match the width of the roof. Sc across.
  • Texture: Work rows of *Sc, Bobble Stitch* or simply use a textured stitch like the Lemon Peel stitch to create a lumpy, fluffy snow effect.
  • Overhang: Make the piece slightly longer than the roof so it hangs over the front and back. On the edges, work random scallops (Ch 3, dc, ch 3, sl st) to look like dripping snow or icicles.
  • Assembly: Sew this white blanket onto the top of the Red exterior.

Part 2: The Poinsettias (The Star Feature)

IMPORTANT: Switch to 1.5mm Hook. Poinsettias are defined by their star shape.

1. The Poinsettia Flower (Bracts)

Make 10-15 flowers in Velvet Red.

  • Center: Use Gold/Yellow. MR 5 sc. Sl st to join.
  • Petals (Points): Switch to Red.

Round 1: *Ch 5, Sl st in 2nd ch from hook, Sc in next, Hdc in next, Dc in next. Sl st into the next stitch on the central ring.* Repeat 5 times to create a 5-point star.

Layering: For a fuller flower, make two stars and stack them offset.

2. The Leaves

  • Pattern: Use Dark Green. Same pattern as the Red star points, but make them slightly larger (start with Ch 6). Sew to the bottom of the red flowers.

3. The Pots

  • Pot: Terracotta. MR 6 sc, Inc to 12. BLO Sc around. Sc 3 rows.

Assembly: Glue the Poinsettia flower onto the pot. Place them in clusters on the floor.

Part 3: The Festive Interior

Use Hook Size: 2.5mm for Furniture, 1.5mm for Details.

1. The Brick Fireplace

  • Structure: Brick Red. Ch 12. Sc 12 rows. Fold into a box shape (open front).
  • Interior: Line the inside with Black yarn.
  • Mantel: Dark Brown or Gold strip glued to the top.
  • Placement: Glue to the center of the back wall.

2. Tiny Stockings

Use 1.5mm Hook.

  • Sock: Red. Ch 4 circle. Sc 4 rounds. Ch 2 (Heel), Sc 3 rounds (Foot).
  • Cuff: White. Sc around the top. Make 3. Hang them on the fireplace.

3. Gift Boxes

  • Cube: Use Red and Royal Blue. Ch 5, Sc 5 rows. Make 6 squares per color and stitch into cubes. Stuff lightly.
  • Ribbon: Use White or Gold yarn to surface slip stitch a cross over the box. Top with a tiny bow.

4. Velvet Ribbons & Ornaments

  • Ribbon Swags: Red. Ch 30. Pin/glue to the ceiling corners, letting it drape.
  • Ornaments: Use tiny Gold or Silver beads, or crochet tiny balls (MR 4 sc), and hang them from the ribbons.

Part 4: The Exterior & Reindeer

1. The Red-Nosed Reindeer

Use 1.5mm Hook and Brown yarn.

  • Head: MR 6 sc, Inc to 12. Sc 3 rounds. Dec to 6.

Nose: Sew a bright Red bead or French knot on the tip.

  • Body: MR 6 sc, Inc to 12. Sc 5 rounds. Dec to 6. Sew to head.
  • Legs: Ch 4, Sc back. Make 4. Black hooves at the bottom.
  • Antlers: Dark Brown wire or stiffened yarn. Twist into branch shapes and glue to head.
  • Placement: Stand the reindeer outside the front door.

2. Exterior Flower Pot

  • Make one extra large Poinsettia pot (as per Part 2) to place next to the Reindeer.

3. Wheels

Use 2.5mm Hook.

  • Tire: Black. MR 6 sc, Inc to 12, (1, Inc) to 18. Sc 2 rounds.
  • Hubcap: Gold or Silver. MR 6 sc.
  • Sew to sides.

Final Assembly

  1. Structural Check: Ensure the Red/Green shell is rigid. The “Snow” roof adds weight, so the plastic canvas core is essential to prevent sagging.
  2. Interior Decorating:
    • Glue the Fireplace to the back wall. Ensure stockings hang freely.
    • Cluster the Poinsettia Pots on the floor, creating a dense floral carpet look.
    • Stack the Red and Blue Gift Boxes in a corner or near the fireplace.
    • Drape the Red Velvet Ribbons across the ceiling.
  3. Exterior Styling:
    • Verify the Gold Window Frames are neat.
    • Position the Reindeer and the exterior Poinsettia pot.
    • Fluff the white roof yarn to maximize the snowy effect.

Congratulations! You have built the “Poinsettia” Holiday Shed. This festive masterpiece brings the joy of Christmas to your miniature collection, perfect for display all season long.
