There is nothing quite like the smell of fresh bread in the morning. The “Artisan Bread” Bakery caravan brings that warm, rustic feeling to life in miniature form. This project captures the essence of a traditional countryside boulangerie on wheels. The exterior features a warm, earthy color palette with a Rust/Terracotta lower half and a creamy textured upper half, giving it a cozy, toasted feel.
Step inside, and you are greeted by shelves stacked high with golden goodness: crusty baguettes, round sourdough boules with perfect scoring, flaky croissants, and soft rolls. The floor is dusted with “flour” (wool), and burlap sacks of grain sit ready for the next batch. A vintage delivery bicycle parked outside, with its basket full of bread, suggests that deliveries are about to begin. This project is a feast for the eyes and a joy to construct.
This is a structural playset project. To ensure the caravan walls are rigid enough to hold the heavy shelves of bread and maintain that perfect boxy shape, we will strictly use the “3-Layer Sandwich Method” (Yarn – Plastic Canvas – Yarn). This technique creates sturdy, flat walls that won’t sag. We will use a standard hook for the main shell and a micro-hook for the intricate bakery items and the bicycle.
Please note: I strive for accuracy in every pattern, but occasional errors can happen. Thank you for understanding and for enjoying my designs.

Part 1: The Bakery Structure (Sandwich Method)
Use Hook Size: 2.5mm
1. The Bakery Floor
Make 2 identical panels using Dark Brown (to look like wood flooring).
- Row 1: Ch 26. Sc in 2nd ch from hook and across. (25)
- Row 2-40: Sc across. (Rectangle approx 4″ x 6.5″).
- Fasten off Panel 1. Keep yarn attached to Panel 2.
Assembly: Cut plastic canvas to size. Sandwich between the two panels. Sc around the perimeter through both layers to seal.
2. The Two-Tone Shell (U-Shaped)
This forms the walls and roof. The color split gives it that classic vintage look.
Panel A: Exterior (Rust & Cream)
- Start with Rust/Terracotta.
- Row 1: Ch 91 (Length to cover Left Wall + Roof + Right Wall). Sc across. (90)
- Row 2-12: Sc across (Rust Bottom Section).
- Change to Cream.
- Row 13-35: Sc across (Cream Top Section).
- Window Cutouts: In the Cream section on the side walls, create rectangular window openings (Ch 10, Sk 10).
- Fasten off.
Panel B: Interior (Cream)
- Use Cream yarn for the entire piece to keep the bakery bright. Match dimensions and window gaps of Panel A.
Assembly:
- Cut plastic canvas strip (with window holes).
- Sandwich canvas between Panel A and Panel B.
- Join: Sc around the perimeter through both layers. Use Rust for the bottom edge and Cream for the rest.
- Shape: Bend into a U-shape arch. Sew the bottom edges to the Floor Base.
3. The Bakery Door
Make 2 panels (Sandwich method).
- Size: Ch 12. Sc 25 rows. Match the color split (Rust bottom, Cream top).
- Window: Include a small window in the top half.
- Hinge: Sew the outer edge to the caravan frame.

Part 2: The Bread Collection (Maximalism)
IMPORTANT: Switch to 1.5mm Hook. The realism is in the details.
1. Baguettes (Make 5-6)
- Yarn: Golden Brown / Tan.
- Pattern: Ch 12. Join to ring. Sc around for 25 rows. Dec to close ends. (Long tube).
- Detail: Use Dark Brown embroidery floss to stitch 3 diagonal slashes across the top (the scoring).
2. Sourdough Boules (Make 4-5)
- Yarn: Dark Beige or Light Brown.
- Pattern: MR 6 sc, Inc to 18, Sc 3 rounds, Dec to close. (Round ball, flatten bottom slightly).

3. Croissants (Make 6)
- Yarn: Butter Yellow / Gold.

4. Dark Rye Rolls
- Yarn: Dark Chocolate Brown.
- Pattern: MR 5 sc, Inc to 10, Sc 2 rounds, Dec to close. Simple small rounds.
5. The Shelving Unit
Use 2.5mm Hook and Dark Brown yarn.
- Backboard: Ch 20. Sc 25 rows. (Fits back wall).
- Shelves: Ch 20. Sc 4 rows. Make 3 shelves. Stiffen with plastic canvas strips.
- Assembly: Sew shelves perpendicular to the backboard. Glue the unit into the back of the caravan.

Part 3: Bakery Accessories
Use Hook Size: 1.5mm
1. Flour Sacks (Make 2)
- Bag: Burlap/Dark Beige yarn. Ch 10, join to ring. Sc 12 rounds.
- Fill: Stuff firmly. Pinch the top closed and tie with a piece of dark brown yarn.
- Label: Use Dark Brown thread to embroider “FLOUR” on the front (or “XXX”).
- Placement: Place near the door. Glue some white wool fluff around the base to look like spilled flour.
2. Rolling Pin
- Body: Light Beige. Ch 10. Sl st back to make a thick cylinder (or MR 4, Sc tube).
- Handles: Red or Brown. Ch 3 bobbles on each end.

Part 4: The Vintage Delivery Bicycle
Use Hook Size: 1.5mm. This requires wire for the frame.

- Cut craft wire to form the shape of a bicycle frame (two triangles and handlebars).
- Covering: Wrap Beige yarn tightly around the wire frame. Secure with glue at ends.
2. The Wheels (Make 2)
- Tire: Black. Ch 25, join to ring. Sc around the ring to thicken it.

4. Seat & Pedals
- Seat: Dark Brown triangle. Sew to seat post.
- Pedals: Tiny Black rectangles glued to wire cranks.
Final Assembly
- Structural Check: Ensure the Rust/Cream U-shell is securely sewn to the floor. The plastic canvas sandwich is vital for the walls to stand straight behind the heavy shelves.
- Interior Styling:
- Glue the shelving unit to the back wall.
- Arrange the bread: Baguettes upright, Boules on the middle shelf, Croissants on top.
- Place the Flour Sacks in the corner. Glue a wisp of white wool (flour) spilling out of one sack onto the floor.
- Place the Rolling Pin and the Egg Basket on the floor.
- Exterior Scene:
- Lean the Vintage Bicycle against the side of the caravan or use a kickstand wire to make it stand.
- Ensure the basket on the bike is visibly full of bread.
