The Toy Maker Bear – Free Crochet Pattern

This charming Golden Brown Bear features a classic teddy bear silhouette with a muzzle that invites a smile. He is dressed for serious work in a practical yet adorable outfit. His base layer is a cheerful Red and White striped shirt, reminiscent of candy canes and vintage workwear. Over this, he wears a sturdy Dark Blue Crochet Overall Dress (or apron-style overalls) equipped with spacious pockets filled with tiny tools. To aid his detailed work, he wears wire-rimmed spectacles perched on his nose and keeps a trusty pencil tucked behind his ear. His feet are protected by sturdy, textured work boots in a matching golden-tan shade.

No toy maker is complete without his creations. He holds a miniature Rocking Horse, white with red rockers, which he is in the middle of painting. Tucked nearby is a tiny, classic Toy Soldier. In his hand, he wields a small wooden-style hammer. This pattern is an advanced-intermediate project that offers a wonderful opportunity to practice miniature amigurumi and detailed accessory creation.

Gauge & Finished Size

Work tightly in continuous spiral rounds for the bear body so the stuffing does not show. Using DK yarn and a 2.5mm hook, the finished bear stands approximately 28–30 cm (11–12 inches) tall. The accessories are miniatures and will require fine motor skills.

Construction Overview

The bear is constructed in pieces. The legs are made first and joined to form the body. The arms are attached separately. The head is a sphere with a sewn-on muzzle. The shirt is integrated into the arm and upper body pattern using color changes. The overall dress is a separate removable garment. The boots are separate. The accessories—hammer, rocking horse, soldier, and pencil—are detailed micros.
