The Tweed Lady Rabbit – Free Crochet Pattern

This distinguished rabbit features soft ash-grey fur, giving her a gentle and classic appearance. She is clothed in a stunning “Tweed” ensemble. Her A-line dress mimics the texture of woven wool, achieved by holding strands of brown and grey yarn together or using textured stitches. To stay warm, she wears a matching capelet draped elegantly over her shoulders, finished with a luxurious white faux-fur collar. Her head is adorned with a deep Burgundy Cloche hat, a staple of 1920s fashion, decorated with a side bow. She walks in glossy black Mary Jane shoes.

Her accessories are essential for her expedition: a structured vintage handbag and a magnifying glass for inspecting nature’s details. Accompanying her is a tiny, bushy-tailed Squirrel clutching an acorn, her faithful woodland friend. This pattern is designed for intermediate crocheters who enjoy creating textured fabrics and detailed miniatures.

Please note: I strive for accuracy in every pattern, but occasional errors can happen. Thank you for understanding and for enjoying my designs.

Gauge & Finished Size

Work tightly in continuous spiral rounds for the rabbit body so the stuffing does not show. Using DK yarn and a 2.5mm hook, the finished rabbit stands approximately 28–30 cm (11–12 inches) tall (excluding ears). The clothing is designed to be removable.

Construction Overview

The rabbit is constructed in pieces. The legs are made first, starting with the black shoes, and are joined to form the body. The head is round and attached to the neck. The “Tweed” effect on the dress and capelet is the highlight; you can achieve this by using the “Grit Stitch” (alternating sc and dc) or by crocheting with two strands of fine yarn (one brown, one grey) held together. The hat is a deep bell shape. The accessories—bag, magnifying glass, and squirrel—are detailed miniatures.
