We recommend you order organic fiberfill and high-quality safety eyes to give your creation a professional, lasting finish.

Please note: I strive for accuracy in every pattern, but occasional errors can happen. Thank you for understanding and for enjoying my designs.

Materials and Tools Required

To recreate the Lavender Fields Bunny with the exact charm shown in the photograph, careful selection of materials is essential. The color palette is specific to the “Lavender Field” theme.

  • Bunny Body Yarn: Approximately 100g of DK weight yarn in a classic Cream or Off-White. A wool/alpaca blend is suggested for a soft, tactile feel that resembles real fur.
  • Dress Main Yarn: 50g of DK weight yarn in Light Lilac or Lavender.
  • Cardigan & Heart Yarn: 40g of DK weight yarn in Natural Cream (can be the same as the body or slightly yellower for contrast).
  • Shoes & Hat Band Yarn: 30g of DK weight yarn in Deep Plum or Dark Purple.
  • Hat & Basket Yarn: 40g of DK weight yarn in Tan, Beige, or a “Straw” colorway. Paper yarn or raffia can also be used for the hat/basket for extra realism, but wool is softer.
  • Bee Yarn: Scraps of Black, Bright Yellow, and White.
  • Embroidery Floss: Forest Green (for stems), Deep Purple (for flower buds), and Dark Brown (for facial features).
  • Knitting Needles:
    • US 2.5 (3.0mm) straight needles for the bunny parts. This smaller size ensures the fabric is dense enough to hold stuffing without gaps.
    • US 3 (3.25mm) straight needles for the clothing to allow for a graceful drape.
    • Set of US 2.5 (3.0mm) double-pointed needles (DPNs) for the small accessories like the bee and basket handle.
  • Notions:
    • High-quality polyester fiberfill stuffing.
    • Two 9mm black safety eyes.
    • Small scrap of white organza, tulle, or ribbon for the bee’s wings.
    • Tapestry needle for seaming and embroidery.
    • Stitch holders and markers.
    • A small piece of cardboard to reinforce the base of the basket.

Gauge and Sizing Information

While exact gauge is not critical for a toy, consistency is key to ensuring the clothes fit the body. For the bunny body, you should aim for approximately 26 stitches and 32 rows over 4 inches (10cm) using the smaller needles. The fabric should be firm. The finished bunny stands approximately 14 inches tall, excluding the ears.

Embroidery

This is the detail that defines the “Lavender Fields” theme. On the front center of the bodice:

  • Using Forest Green yarn, stitch 3 to 5 vertical lines of varying heights using a stem stitch. These are the flower stalks.
  • Using Deep Purple yarn, create the flower buds. You can use French Knots clustered at the top of the green stems, or work tiny bullion knots for a textured, 3D effect. The image shows a cluster of bobble-like textures, so French Knots are perfect here.

  2. Dressing: Put the lavender dress on the bunny first. Fasten at the back.
  3. Layering: Slip the cream cardigan over the dress. It is designed to be worn open, showcasing the embroidery on the dress bodice.
  4. Shoes: Put the purple shoes on the feet.
  5. Hat: Place the sun hat on the bunny’s head. You may want to tack it down with a few hidden stitches to keep it in place.
  6. Props: Place the filled basket in one hand (secure with a stitch if desired) and position the bee near the flowers or on the basket handle.
