Vintage Rose Cow – Free Crochet Pattern

Step into a world of timeless elegance and eternal romance with the “Vintage Rose Cow.” This exquisite amigurumi design captures the nostalgic charm of the Victorian and Edwardian eras, blended with the pastoral sweetness of a classic dairy cow. This isn’t just a toy; it is a keepsake that tells a story of love and refined style.

The character features a gentle brown and white spotted dairy cow, designed with a soft, rounded muzzle and kind eyes. She is dressed for a sophisticated evening or a romantic promenade in a luxurious burgundy dress made from velvet yarn, giving it a rich, tactile texture. The dress is accented with a high-necked, pristine white Victorian lace collar that frames her face beautifully. Her accessories are modest yet chic: a black pillbox hat with a mysterious mesh veil, sensible low-heeled black shoes, and a darling heart-shaped handbag. To complete the theme of “Eternal Romance,” she is accompanied by a pair of inseparable miniature lovebirds—one blue and one orange—snuggled together.

Please note: I strive for accuracy in every pattern, but occasional errors can happen. Thank you for understanding and for enjoying my designs.

Materials Needed

  • Yarn:
    • DK or Sport weight cotton yarn in: Chocolate Brown, White (for the cow), Black (shoes/hat), Bright Blue, and Bright Orange (for birds).
    • Velvet or Chenille Yarn (Fine/DK weight) in Deep Burgundy/Wine Red (for the dress). Note: If you cannot find velvet yarn, regular acrylic works, but velvet adds the requested texture.
    • Lace weight or fingering weight cotton in White (for the collar).
  • Hooks: 2.5 mm (for the cow and birds), 3.0 mm (for the velvet dress), 1.5 mm (for the lace collar).
  • Notions:
    • 10mm Black Safety Eyes.
    • Small piece of black tulle or netting (for the veil).
    • Fiberfill stuffing.
    • Yarn needle and embroidery needle.
    • Black embroidery thread.
    • Stitch markers.

Gauge & Size

The finished cow stands approximately 28 cm (11 inches) tall. The gauge should be tight for the body to prevent stuffing from showing. The dress tension should be checked to ensure it fits over the cow’s body.
