Welcome to the freshest, greenest addition to our miniature world! The “Pea Pod” Green House is a delightful departure from traditional square caravans. Inspired by the organic curves of nature, this vehicle takes the form of a giant, ripe snap pea. The exterior is a soothing, fresh Light Green, designed with soft rounded edges to mimic the pod’s shape. Through the large open viewing side, you don’t just see a room; you see a thriving vertical garden.
The interior is a maximalist celebration of the Pisum sativum. Bamboo stakes rise from the floor, supporting tangled vines of Sweet Peas featuring delicate white blossoms and heavy, open pods revealing rows of shiny green seeds. It is a cozy lunch spot too, featuring a steaming bowl of green pea soup and a tiny silver spoon waiting for a hungry gardener. Outside, the whimsy continues with a tiny grey Field Mouse who has found a prize—a single pea as big as his head! Nearby, a vintage kitchen scale weighs the rest of the harvest. This project is vibrant, organic, and full of life.
Because the “Pea Pod” shape relies on a smooth, continuous arch without sharp corners, structural integrity is vital. We will strictly use the “3-Layer Sandwich Method” (Yarn – Plastic Canvas – Yarn). This technique allows us to bend the walls into that signature “C” shape of a pod while ensuring the structure remains rigid enough to hold the bamboo stakes and hanging vines. We will switch between a standard hook for the main shell and a precision micro-hook for the tiny peas and mouse details.
Please note: I strive for accuracy in every pattern, but occasional errors can happen. Thank you for understanding and for enjoying my designs.
Materials & Tools
- Yarn: Sport or DK weight cotton yarn (Mercerized cotton is highly recommended for the peas to make them look shiny and fresh).
– Pod Green (Light): Main exterior and interior walls.
– Vine Green (Medium): Leaves, stems, and pod casings.
– Pea Green (Bright/Shiny): The peas themselves, soup.
– Pure White: Sweet pea flowers.
– Mouse Grey: The mouse.
– Pink: Mouse tail/nose.
– Silver/Grey: Spoon, scale tray, wheels.
– Bamboo Tan: Stakes.
– Black: Tires, mouse eyes.
- Hooks:
– 2.5mm (Size C/2): For the caravan shell, floor, and large pods.
– 1.0mm – 1.25mm (Steel Hook): CRITICAL for the tiny individual peas, flowers, mouse, and scale details.
- Structure: 7-8 sheets of Plastic Canvas (7-mesh stiffness).
- Other: Fiberfill stuffing, thin wooden skewers (for bamboo stakes), craft wire (for poseable vines), fabric glue, tapestry needle.
Abbreviations (US Terms)
- MR: Magic Ring
- Ch: Chain
- Sc: Single Crochet
- Hdc: Half Double Crochet
- Dc: Double Crochet

Part 1: The Pod Structure (Sandwich Method)
Use Hook Size: 2.5mm and Pod Green yarn.
1. The Garden Bed Floor
Make 2 identical panels using Tan (Soil color) or Light Green.
- Row 1: Ch 28. Sc in 2nd ch from hook and across. (27)
- Row 2-42: Sc across. (Rectangle approx 4.5″ x 7″).
Rounding: At the last round, work 3 Sc in the corners to give the floor a rounded, oval footprint rather than a sharp rectangle. This matches the organic “pod” theme.
- Fasten off Panel 1. Keep yarn attached to Panel 2.
Assembly: Cut plastic canvas to the exact rounded-rectangle size. Sandwich it between the two panels. Sc around the perimeter through both layers to seal.
2. The Pod Shell (The Arch)
This forms the continuous curve of the pea pod.
Panel A: Exterior (Light Pod Green)
- Row 1: Ch 95 (Length to cover Left Wall + Roof + Right Wall). Sc across.
- Row 2-35: Sc across.
- Shaping: Unlike a square trailer, we want the roof to curve gently into the walls. The plastic canvas will handle the curve, but crochet the fabric straight.
- Window Cutouts: On the side wall (Left), create a long, horizontal oval window. The Right side is the main viewing opening.
Panel B: Interior (Light Pod Green)
- Use the same Light Green. We want the interior to feel like being inside the vegetable. Match dimensions and window gaps of Panel A.
Assembly:
- Cut plastic canvas strip (with window holes).
- Sandwich canvas between Panel A and Panel B.
- Join: Sc around the perimeter using Light Green.
- Shape: Bend the panel into a “C” shape or Arch. Sew the bottom edges to the Floor Base. The tension of the canvas will keep the curve smooth.
- Back Wall: Make a solid sandwich panel shaped like a tombstone (rounded top) to close the back.

Part 2: The Vertical Garden (Maximalism)
IMPORTANT: Switch to 1.0mm – 1.25mm Hook. The details must be fine.
1. Bamboo Stakes
- Core: Cut wooden skewers to the height of the interior ceiling.
- Covering: Use Bamboo Tan yarn. Glue the yarn at the bottom and wrap tightly around the skewer all the way to the top.
Nodes: Every 1 inch, wrap the yarn 3-4 times in the same spot to create the “knuckle” or node of the bamboo. Make 4-5 stakes. Glue them vertically inside the caravan, connecting floor to ceiling.
2. Sweet Pea Vines
- Stem: Green wire. Wrap with Vine Green yarn.
- Leaves: Vine Green. Ch 6. Sl st in 2nd ch, Sc, Hdc, Dc, Hdc. (Simple leaf). Make 20+. Glue to the wire stem.
- Tendrils: Tightly coil thin green wire around a needle to make a spring shape. Attach to the vine.
- Flowers: White. MR 5 sc. *Ch 3, Dc, Ch 3, Sl st* (Petal). Make 3 petals for a pea blossom look. Glue mainly near the top of the vines.
- Installation: Twist the vines around the Bamboo Stakes inside the caravan.
3. Open Pea Pods (The Stars)
- The Shell: Vine Green. Ch 12.
Row 1: Sc, Hdc, Dc across… Hdc, Sc.
Row 2: Work around the other side to create a long oval boat shape. Stiffen with glue so it curls open like a canoe.
- The Peas: Shiny Pea Green. MR 6 sc. Dec to close. (Tiny ball). Make 3-4 per pod.
- Assembly: Glue the peas in a row inside the open shell. Glue the pods hanging from the vines.
Part 3: The Dining Details
Use Hook Size: 1.0mm.
1. Pea Soup Bowl
- Bowl: Dark Green or White. MR 6 sc, Inc to 18. BLO Sc 3 rounds.
- Soup: Light Green (Pea soup color). MR 6 sc, Inc to 18. Flat circle. Glue inside the bowl (near the top).
2. Silver Spoon
- Handle: Silver embroidery thread. Ch 6. Sl st back.
- Bowl of Spoon: MR 4 sc. Sew to handle. Place inside the soup bowl or next to it on the floor.
Part 4: Exterior & The Mouse
1. The Tiny Field Mouse
Use 1.0mm Hook and Mouse Grey yarn.
- Head: MR 6 sc, Inc to 12. Sc 2 rounds. Dec to 6. (Pointy snout).
Ears: Ch 3, 5 Dc in first ch. (Big round ears). Sew to head.
- Body: MR 6 sc, Inc to 12. Sc 4 rounds. Dec to 6.
- Limbs: Tiny Ch 4 tubes.
Tail: Pink thread. Ch 10.
- The Prize Pea: Make a “Giant” Pea (Shiny Green, MR 6, Inc to 12, Sc 2 rnds, Dec).
Pose: Sew the mouse standing or sitting, hugging this giant pea with its front paws.
2. Vintage Kitchen Scale
Use 1.25mm Hook.
- Base: Beige/Cream. Ch 6. Sc 6 rows. Cube shape (stuffed).
- Dial: White circle sewn to front. Embroider a black arrow and tick marks.
- Tray: Silver. MR 6 sc, Inc to 18. Concave shape. Glue to top of base.
- Weighing: Pile 5-6 loose crochet peas onto the silver tray.
3. Wheels
Use 2.5mm Hook.
- Tire: Black. MR 6 sc, Inc to 12, (1, Inc) to 18. Sc 2 rounds.
- Hubcap: Pod Green. MR 6 sc.
- Sew to the sides, partially tucked under the curved body if possible for a streamlined look.
Final Assembly
- Structural Check: Ensure the “Pod” shell is curved smoothly. The 3-layer sandwich is vital to keep the curve without collapsing.
- Interior Gardening:
- Secure the Bamboo Stakes firmly.
- Wind the vines around the stakes. Ensure the Open Pea Pods are visible through the main opening.
- Place the Soup Bowl and Spoon on the floor or a small leaf “table”.
- Exterior Scene:
- Position the Kitchen Scale near the front hitch.
- Place the Mouse holding the giant pea near the scale.
- Scatter a few loose peas on the ground (the “spill”).
Congratulations! You have grown the “Pea Pod” Green House. This organic, fresh design is a cute and healthy addition to your crochet caravan park.
