Welcome to the most romantic season of the year! The “Sakura” Blossom Tea House is a tribute to the Japanese tradition of Hanami (flower viewing). This exquisite caravan captures the fleeting beauty of spring with a soft Baby Pink and White color palette. The roof is the showstopper, densely covered in hundreds of individual crocheted cherry blossom petals that look like they have just drifted down from the trees.
The interior is designed as a traditional Japanese tea room, featuring tatami mats on the floor and a spectacular dried branch blooming with Sakura flowers. A delicate white tea set with hand-embroidered roses and a plate of tri-color mochi await guests. Outside, a lovely Calico Cat shields herself from the spring sun with a paper fan, sitting beneath a classic bamboo parasol. This project is a test of patience and delicacy, perfect for advanced crocheters who love miniatures.
To ensure the caravan walls remain crisp and upright, and to support the weight of the textured roof, we utilize the “3-Layer Sandwich Method” (Yarn – Plastic Canvas – Yarn). We will also be using precision micro-crochet techniques for the flowers and tea set.
Please note: I strive for accuracy in every pattern, but occasional errors can happen. Thank you for understanding and for enjoying my designs.

Part 1: The Tea House Structure (Sandwich Method)
Use Hook Size: 2.5mm
1. The Tatami Floor Base
Make 2 identical panels using Beige yarn.
- Row 1: Ch 26. Sc in 2nd ch from hook and across. (25)
- Row 2-40: Sc across. (Rectangle approx 4″ x 6.5″).
- Fasten off Panel 1. Keep yarn attached to Panel 2.
- Tatami Detail: Before assembling, use Dark Green yarn to surface slip-stitch grid lines onto the top panel to mimic the borders of individual tatami mats.
Assembly: Cut plastic canvas to size. Sandwich between the two panels. Sc around the perimeter through both layers to seal.
2. The Two-Tone Shell (U-Shaped)
This forms the walls and roof. The aesthetic is soft and pastel.
Panel A: Exterior (Pink & White)
- Start with Baby Pink.
- Row 1: Ch 91 (Length to cover Left Side + Roof + Right Side). Sc across. (90)
- Row 2-12: Sc across (Pink Section – Bottom).
- Change to Pure White.
- Row 13-35: Sc across (White Section – Top & Roof).
- Window Cutouts: In the White section on the side walls, create romantic arched windows (Ch 10, Sk 10).

- You can make the interior solid White to reflect light, or match the exterior. Repeat dimensions and window holes of Panel A.
Assembly:
- Cut plastic canvas strip (with window holes).
- Sandwich canvas between Panel A and Panel B.
- Join: Sc around the perimeter through both layers using Pink for the bottom and White for the top.
- Trim: Crochet a small scalloped edge (Sc, Sk 1, 3 Dc in next, Sk 1) along the color transition line on the exterior for a delicate touch.
- Shape: Bend into a U-shape arch. Sew the bottom edges to the Floor Base.

Part 2: The Sakura Roof (The Masterpiece)
This part requires patience. We are creating a 3D texture of fallen petals.
1. The Micro Sakura Flowers
Use 1.0mm Hook and Lace weight Pink yarn (mix shades of light and dark pink if possible).
- Pattern: MR. *Ch 2, Dc, Ch 2, Sl st in ring* repeat 5 times. Tighten ring.
- Quantity: You will need approximately 150-200 of these tiny flowers.
2. Application
- Start at the very top center of the roof.
- Glue or sew the flowers densely, overlapping them slightly.
- As you move down the sides of the roof, space them out slightly to look like they are drifting or falling.
- Extend some flowers over the front rim of the roof for a 3D overhang effect.
Part 3: The Tea Room Interior (Maximalism)
IMPORTANT: Switch to 1.0mm – 1.25mm Hook.
1. The Sakura Tree Branch
- Structure: Take a real dried twig or twist brown craft wire to form a branching tree shape.
- Bark: Wrap Brown yarn tightly around the wire/twig.
- Blossoms: Crochet 30-50 more of the Micro Sakura Flowers (from Part 2). Glue them all over the branches.
- Placement: Glue the base of the tree into the back corner of the caravan. Arch the branches so they cover the “ceiling” of the room.
2. The Rose Tea Set
- Teapot: White. MR 6 sc, Inc to 12. Sc 3 rounds. Dec to 6.
Lid: Tiny white circle.
Spout & Handle: Ch 4 loops.
Detail: Embroider a tiny red rose on the side.
- Tea Cups: White. MR 5 sc. Sc 2 rounds. Embroider a red dot (rose). Make 2.
3. Hanami Dango (Mochi)
- Balls: Make tiny balls (MR 4 sc, close) in Pink, White, and Blue (or Green).
- Skewer: Thread them onto a trimmed toothpick in order: Pink (top), White, Blue (bottom).
- Plate: Wooden Brown. MR 6 sc, Inc to 18. Flat circle. Place dango on plate.
4. Paper Lanterns
- Lantern: Pink. Ch 6, join to ring. Sc 6 rounds. Stuff lightly.
Ribbing: Surface slip stitch vertical lines in Darker Pink.
- Hang 2-3 lanterns from the ceiling using thread.
Part 4: The Exterior Scene
1. The Calico Cat
Use Hook Size: 2.5mm.
- Head: White. MR 6 sc, Inc to 12, (1, Inc) to 18. Sc 4 rows. Dec to close.
Patches: Change color to Black or Orange randomly during rounds to create calico spots.
- Body: White/Patches. MR 6 sc, Inc to 12, (1, Inc) to 18. Sc 5 rows. Dec to 12. Sew to head.
- Ears: One Black, One Orange. Ch 3, Sc, Hdc. Sew to head.
- Limbs: White. Ch 6, sc back. Make 4. Sew to body in a sitting pose.
2. The Paper Fan
Use 1.0mm Hook.
- Fan: Use variegated blue/white thread.
Row 1: Ch 4.
Row 2: 2 Dc in every ch.
Row 3: 2 Dc in every st. (It will naturally ruffle/fan out).
- Handle: Glue a tiny stick or wire to the base. Stitch to the Cat’s paw.
3. Japanese Parasol (Wagasa)
- Canopy: Pink/Bamboo color. MR 6 sc. Inc to 12… Inc to 36.
ribs: Surface crochet lines from center to edge using Beige yarn.
- Structure: Glue a skewer (Main pole) into the center. Glue toothpicks along the ribs on the underside for structure.
- Stand it next to the cat.
4. Low Tea Table
- Top: Brown. MR 6 sc, Inc to 24. BLO Sc around.
- Legs: Bobble stitches at 4 points on the bottom.
- Place the Tea Set and Mochi on this table outside under the parasol.
Final Assembly
- Structural Check: Ensure the U-shaped shell is firmly sewn to the Tatami floor. The plastic canvas core is vital here because the “Sakura” roof adds weight.
- Interior Landscaping:
- Secure the Tree Branch. It should look like it’s growing inside the room.
- Hang the lanterns carefully.
- Place a small low table inside if space permits, or keep the interior open to show the mats.
- Exterior Arrangement:
- Place the Low Tea Table in front of the caravan.
- Position the Parasol to shade the table.
- Sit the Calico Cat holding her fan next to the table.
Congratulations! You have created a peaceful spring sanctuary. The “Sakura” Blossom Tea House is a masterpiece of romance and detail. Enjoy the view!
