The “Gardener’s” Greenhouse – Free Crochet Pattern

Bring the outdoors in with this serene “Gardener’s Greenhouse” Caravan. This miniature sanctuary is a plant lover’s dream, transformed into a mobile potting shed. The exterior is crocheted in a textured moss green, featuring large “glass” windows made of white tulle to let the light in. Inside, the floor is paved with grey “gravel,” and every corner is filled with lush greenery: hanging Monsteras, potted cacti, trailing succulents, and gardening tools ready for work. It is a peaceful, botanical retreat in miniature form.

This project relies on structural integrity to support the open-sided design. We will use the “3-Layer Sandwich Method” (Yarn – Plastic Canvas – Yarn) for the walls, floor, and roof. This allows us to sandwich the tulle fabric for the windows securely and keeps the caravan boxy and rigid. We will use a standard hook for the shell and a micro-hook for the intricate plant leaves.

Please note: I strive for accuracy in every pattern, but occasional errors can happen. Thank you for understanding and for enjoying my designs.

Part 1: The Greenhouse Structure (Sandwich Method)

We will construct the shell in three main parts: The Floor, The End Walls (with windows), and The Roof/Back Wall Wrapper.

1. The Gravel Floor

Make 2 panels using Grey yarn. Use a 3.0mm hook.

  1. Row 1: Ch 26. Sc in 2nd ch from hook and across. (25)
  2. Row 2: *Sc 1, Tr 1 (push tr to back to pop out)* repeat across to create a bumpy “stone” texture. Sc in last st.
  3. Row 3: Sc across.
  4. Row 4-40: Repeat Rows 2 & 3. (Rectangle approx 4″ x 6.5″).
  5. Sandwich: Cut plastic canvas to size. Sandwich between the two textured panels. Sc around the perimeter to seal.

2. The End Walls (With Windows)

These are the short sides (Front and Rear of the trailer). Make 2 identical units.

Panel A (Exterior Green):

  • Row 1: Ch 21. Sc across. (20)
  • Row 2-5: Sc across. (Bottom wall).
  • Row 6 (Start Window): Sc 3, Ch 14, Sk 14, Sc 3.
  • Row 7: Sc 3, Sc 14 into loop/chains, Sc 3.
  • Row 8-20: Sc 3, turn. (Work the left pillar). Fasten off.
  • Rejoin at the other side for the right pillar. Work 13 rows.
  • Row 21 (Close Window): Sc 3, Ch 14, Sc 3.
  • Row 22-25: Sc across. (Top wall). Fasten off.

Panel B (Interior Green): Repeat Panel A exactly.

Assembly (The Tulle Sandwich):

  • Cut plastic canvas to match the shape, cutting out the large window rectangle.
  • Cut a piece of White Tulle slightly larger than the window opening.
  • Layer order: Panel A (Face down) + Tulle + Plastic Canvas + Panel B (Face up).
  • Sc around the inner window frame first to secure the tulle and layers.
  • Sc around the outer perimeter.

3. The Roof & Back Wall

This is one L-shaped piece (or two seamed pieces) that covers the back and top.

  • Panel: With Moss Green, create a rectangle that matches the length of the floor (approx 40 rows) and the height of the back wall + width of the roof.
  • Sandwich: Make 2, sandwich canvas, and seal.

4. Structural Assembly

  • Sew the Back Wall/Roof piece to the Floor (along the back long edge).
  • Sew the two End Walls (with windows) to the Floor (short edges) and to the Roof/Back Wall.
  • You now have a box with one large open side for viewing.
