The Wedding Guest Bunny – Free Knitting Pattern

The Wedding Guest Bunny captures the romantic and whimsical spirit of a garden celebration. Dressed in soft champagne and dusty rose tones, she is elegance personified. Her outfit features a lovely dusty rose dress with a tiered skirt that adds volume and movement, paired with a delicate cream cardigan featuring an intricate lace texture. Adorning her head is a statement peony-shaped fascinator in matching rose tones. She wears dainty champagne ballet flats and carries a small drawstring pouch for wedding confetti. Beside her sits a pair of tiny, colorful lovebirds, symbolizing the happy couple.

Materials

  • DK or Light Worsted weight yarn in the following colors:
    • Oatmeal/Beige (Bunny body)
    • Dusty Rose (Dress and Flower Fascinator)

    • Champagne/Pale Beige (Shoes and Pouch)
    • Scraps of Blue, Green, Yellow, Pink (Lovebirds)
  • US 2.5 (3.0 mm) double-pointed needles (DPNs) or circulars for magic loop
  • US 2.5 (3.0 mm) straight needles (optional for flat pieces)
  • Fiberfill stuffing
  • Black safety eyes (approx. 9mm for bunny, tiny beads or embroidery for birds)
  • Tapestry needle and embroidery needle
  • Stitch markers

Gauge & Finished Size

  • Gauge: Approx. 26 sts = 4 inches (10 cm) in stockinette.
  • Work firmly so stuffing does not show.
  • Finished Height: Approx. 14–15 inches (36–38 cm) including ears.

Construction Overview

  • Bunny: Worked from the feet up. Shoes are integrated into the leg construction (color change). Legs join to form the body and head.
  • Dress: Worked from the bottom up in the round. The skirt features “tiers” created by purl ridges and decreases.
  • Cardigan: Worked flat with a lace stitch pattern to mimic the intricate look.
  • Fascinator: A knitted flower sewn onto a head strap or pinned.
  • Accessories: Pouch and birds are small separate items.

Bunny Body & Head

Legs (Make 2)

Start with Champagne/Pale Beige for the shoes.

CO 10 sts on DPNs. Join in the round.

Rnd 1: kfb around (20 sts).

Rnd 2: *(k1, kfb)* rep around (30 sts).

Rnds 3–7: k all (Shoe base).

Rnd 8 (Shape Toe): k10, (k2tog) 5 times, k10 (25 sts).

Rnd 9: k10, (k2tog) 3 times, k9 (22 sts).

Rnd 10: k all.

Rnd 11 (Strap Gap): k8, BO 6 sts, k8.

Rnd 12 (Change to Oatmeal): k8, CO 6 sts (backward loop), k8 (22 sts).

Rnds 13–32: k all (Leg). Stuff foot firmly and leg lightly.

Break yarn for first leg. Knit second leg but do not break yarn.

Body

Rnd 33 (Join): k11 (2nd leg), CO 4 sts, k22 (1st leg), CO 4 sts, k11 (2nd leg) (52 sts).

Rnds 34–42: k all (Hips).

Rnd 43: *(k11, k2tog)* rep around (48 sts).

Rnds 44–52: k all.

Rnd 53: *(k6, k2tog)* rep around (42 sts).

Rnds 54–58: k all. Stuff body.

Rnd 59: *(k5, k2tog)* rep around (36 sts).

Rnd 60: *(k4, k2tog)* rep around (30 sts).

Rnd 61: *(k3, k2tog)* rep around (24 sts). (Neck).

Head

Rnd 62: *(k2, m1)* rep around (32 sts).

Rnd 63: *(k3, m1)* rep around (40 sts).

Rnd 64: *(k4, m1)* rep around (48 sts).

Rnds 65–78: k all. Insert safety eyes.

Rnd 79: *(k4, k2tog)* rep around (40 sts).

Rnd 80: *(k3, k2tog)* rep around (32 sts).

Rnd 81: *(k2, k2tog)* rep around (24 sts). Stuff head firmly.

Rnd 82: k2tog around (12 sts).

Rnd 83: k2tog around (6 sts). Close hole.

Arms (Make 2)

With Oatmeal, CO 8 sts. Join in round.

Rnd 1: kfb around (16 sts).

Rnds 2–20: k all.

Rnd 21: k2tog around (8 sts).

Stuff lightly. Flatten top and sew to body.

Ears (Make 2)

With Oatmeal, CO 12 sts. Work flat.

Rows 1–3: Stockinette.

Row 4: k1, m1, k10, m1, k1 (14 sts).

Rows 5–26: Stockinette stitch.

Row 27: ssk, k10, k2tog (12 sts).

Decrease 1 st at each end every RS row until 4 sts rem. BO. Sew to head.

Shoe Straps

With Champagne yarn, pick up 4 sts at side of shoe opening. Knit strip to cross foot. Sew to other side.

Dusty Rose Tiered Dress

Worked in the round from the bottom up. The tiers are created by purl ridges.

With Dusty Rose, CO 80 sts.

Tier 1 (Bottom):

Rnds 1–2: k all.

Rnd 3: Purl all (Hemline ridge).

Rnds 4–12: k all.

Rnd 13: *(k8, k2tog)* rep around (72 sts).

Rnd 14: Purl all (Ridge between tiers).

Tier 2 (Middle):

Rnds 15–22: k all.

Rnd 23: *(k7, k2tog)* rep around (64 sts).

Rnd 24: Purl all (Ridge).

Tier 3 (Top Skirt):

Rnds 25–32: k all.

Rnd 33: *(k2, k2tog)* rep around (48 sts).

Rnd 34: *(k4, k2tog)* rep around (40 sts). (Waist).

Bodice:

Rnds 35–40: k all.

Armholes:

Next Rnd: k10, BO 4, k12, BO 4, k10.

Work Front and Back sections separately flat for 1 inch. BO.

Sew shoulder seams.

Cream Lace Cardigan

Worked flat using a simple lace pattern to mimic the intricate look.

Lace Pattern (Multiple of 6 sts + 1):

Row 1 (RS): k1, *yo, k1, sk2p, k1, yo, k1* rep to end.

Row 2 (WS): p all.

With Cream yarn, CO 31 sts.

Rows 1–4: Work in Lace Pattern.

Divide for Armholes:

Row 5: Work 5 sts in pattern (Front), BO 4, Work 13 sts in pattern (Back), BO 4, Work 5 sts in pattern (Front).

Work each section separately in stockinette (or lace if you are comfortable maintaining pattern) for 1 inch.

Sew shoulder seams.

Sleeves: Pick up 12 sts around armhole. Work in stockinette for 1 inch, then 2 rows of Lace Pattern. BO.

Edging: Pick up sts along front opening and neck. Knit 1 row. BO.

Peony Fascinator Hat

Flower:

With Dusty Rose, CO 60 sts.

Row 1: k all.

Row 2: *(k1, m1)* rep across (120 sts).

Rows 3–5: Stockinette stitch.

Row 6: BO loosely.

Coil the strip into a flower shape, stitching the base together as you go. Sew this flower to a small knitted band (CO 4 sts, knit length to fit around one ear) or attach directly to the bunny’s head near one ear.

Accessories

Confetti Pouch

With Champagne yarn, CO 12 sts. Join in round.

Rnd 1: kfb around (24 sts).

Rnds 2–8: k all.

Rnd 9: *(k2, yo, k2tog)* rep around (Eyelets).

Rnd 10: k all.

Rnd 11: BO. Thread a scrap of matching yarn through eyelets to gather.

Tiny Lovebirds (Make 2)

Bird 1 (Pink/Green): Start with Pink.

CO 6 sts. Inc to 12. Knit 3 rnds.

Change to Green.

Knit 4 rnds. Dec to 6 sts. Stuff. Close.

Bird 2 (Blue/Yellow): Start with Blue.

CO 6 sts. Inc to 12. Knit 3 rnds.

Change to Yellow.

Knit 4 rnds. Dec to 6 sts. Stuff. Close.

Details: Embroider tiny beaks with orange yarn. Sew tiny black beads for eyes.

Assembly

  • Weave in all ends.
  • Dress the bunny in the tiered dress.
  • Put on the cream lace cardigan.
  • Attach the peony fascinator to the head, positioned slightly asymmetrically.
  • Hang the pouch on the bunny’s arm.
  • Place the lovebirds together near the bunny’s feet.
  • Embroider a simple “Y” nose in brown thread on the bunny’s face.
