- Brown yarn (shoes, drumstick meat)

- Pale pink yarn or embroidery thread for nose
- Polyester fiberfill stuffing
- Yarn needle, stitch markers, scissors, pins
- Optional: small piece of floral wire for extra stiffness in tail or drumstick handle
Gauge & Finished Size
Crochet tightly in continuous spiral rounds so the stuffing does not show between stitches. Using the yarn and hook suggested, the finished Renaissance Fair Maiden Mouse stands about 26–28 cm (10–11 in) tall from feet to top of head, not including the flower crown. Size may vary slightly depending on yarn and personal tension.
Construction Overview
The mouse is worked in pieces: legs with built-in shoes, body, head, arms, ears, and tail. The skirt is crocheted from the waist down in the round. The green bodice, cream blouse collar, puff sleeves, pouch, flower crown, and drumstick are made separately and sewn on in the finishing steps. Work in continuous rounds unless a round is joined or rows are specified.
Body Parts
Legs & Shoes (make 2)
Begin with brown yarn for the shoes.
- Rnd 1: MR, 6 sc (6)
- Rnd 2: inc around (12)
- Rnd 3: (1 sc, inc) repeat around (18)
- Rnd 4: (2 sc, inc) repeat around (24)

Change to light gray for the legs.
- Rnd 11 (BLO): sc around (18)
- Rnd 12–28: sc around (18)
Stuff the shoe firmly, shaping the front slightly flatter. Continue stuffing the leg evenly as you go so it stays straight and slim. After rnd 28, add a little extra stuffing at the top. Flatten the opening so the front and back edges touch and sc across through both layers (9 sc) to close. FO, leaving a long tail for sewing.
Body
Use light gray yarn.

- Rnd 18: (3 sc, dec) repeat 6 times (24)
Insert safety eyes between rnds 11 and 12, spaced about 8 sts apart. Embroider a small vertical oval nose with pale pink yarn between the eyes and one round below their level. With black thread, outline the bottom edge of the nose slightly and add tiny eyelashes at the outer corners of each eye.
Stuff the head firmly to make a smooth, slightly elongated sphere. Leave the neck opening at 24 sts. FO, leaving a long tail for sewing to the body.
Snout Patch
Use cream yarn.
- Rnd 1: MR, 6 sc (6)
- Rnd 2: (2 sc, inc) repeat around (8)
- Rnd 3: (3 sc, inc) repeat around (10)
Flatten into a small oval. FO, leaving a tail. Sew centered directly under the eyes, with the top edge just beneath the pink nose so it appears like a soft muzzle.
Outer Ears (make 2)
Use light gray yarn.
- Rnd 1: MR, 6 sc (6)
- Rnd 2: inc around (12)
- Rnd 3: (1 sc, inc) repeat around (18)

Use cream yarn.
- Rnd 1: MR, 6 sc (6)
- Rnd 2: inc around (12)
- Rnd 3: (1 sc, inc) repeat around (18)
FO, leaving a short tail. Sew each cream circle centered on a gray ear. When attaching ears to the head later, pinch the bottom slightly so they curve forward.
Arms (make 2)
Begin with light gray yarn for the hand.
- Rnd 1: MR, 6 sc (6)
- Rnd 2: (1 sc, inc) repeat 3 times (9)
- Rnd 3–5: sc around (9)
Change to cream yarn for the blouse section.
- Rnd 6 (BLO): sc around (9)
- Rnd 7–10: sc around (9)
Change back to light gray for the upper arm.
- Rnd 11–18: sc around (9)
Stuff the hand and lower arm lightly; keep the upper arm softer so it can bend. Flatten the top opening and crochet 4–5 sc through both layers to close. FO, leaving a tail for sewing.
Tail
Use light gray yarn.
- Row 1: Ch 28
- Row 2: Starting in 2nd ch from hook, sl st in each ch (27)
FO, leaving a tail for sewing. The slip stitch cord will naturally curl into a delicate tail. You can carry a thin piece of wire along the center if you want more poseability.
Dress & Clothing
Cream Collar
Use cream yarn. This collar sits snugly around the neck under the bodice straps.
- Row 1: Ch 26
- Row 2: Starting in 2nd ch from hook, sc in each ch (25)
FO, leaving long tails on both ends. Wrap around the neck, overlap slightly at the back, and sew ends together when assembling.
Full Skirt (worked from body waist)
Attach cream yarn to any stitch around the body at rnd 19 where the waist begins. Work in FLO of that round to create a neat seam under the bodice.
- Rnd 1 (FLO): (1 sc, inc) repeat around (36 to 54 sts; adjust evenly so count is multiple of 6). Aim for about 54 sts.
- Rnd 2: sc around (54)
- Rnd 3: (8 sc, inc) repeat around (60)
- Rnd 4–5: sc around (60)
- Rnd 6: (9 sc, inc) repeat around (66)
- Rnd 7–12: sc around (66)
- Rnd 13: (10 sc, inc) repeat around (72)
- Rnd 14–18: sc around (72)
FO and weave in ends. The skirt should hang just below the mouse’s knees with a soft bell shape. Lightly steam or block the hem so it drapes smoothly.
Green Corset Bodice
Use olive green yarn. The bodice is worked flat in rows and then seamed at the back.
- Row 1: Ch 30, starting in 2nd ch from hook, sc in each ch (29)
- Row 2–4: ch 1, turn, sc in each st (29)
- Row 5: ch 1, turn, dec, sc 25, dec (27)
- Row 6–7: ch 1, turn, sc in each st (27)
- Row 8: ch 1, turn, dec, sc 23, dec (25)
- Row 9–10: ch 1, turn, sc in each st (25)
Straps:
- Row 11: ch 1, turn, sc 4 (right front strap), ch 1, turn, sc 4 for 3 more rows; FO this strap.
- Skip next 17 sts for neckline; join yarn in 4th st from the end, sc 4 (left front strap), ch 1, turn, sc 4 for 3 more rows; FO.
Wrap the bodice around the mouse’s torso over the cream collar and skirt top. The lower edge should sit just over the skirt waistline and the straps rest on the shoulders. Sew the short back edges together. With cream yarn or contrasting thread, embroider a row of crisscross laces down the center front of the bodice, starting just below the neckline and ending near the waist.
Puff Sleeve Caps (make 2)
Use cream yarn. These sit at the top of each arm where it meets the body.
- Rnd 1: MR, 6 sc (6)
- Rnd 2: inc around (12)
- Rnd 3: (1 sc, inc) repeat around (18)
- Rnd 4: sc around (18)
FO, leaving tails for sewing. Do not stuff. When assembling, sew each cap around the upper part of the arm at the shoulder seam so it looks like a puffed short sleeve emerging from under the bodice strap.
Accessories
Crossbody Pouch
Use rust or terracotta yarn.
- Row 1: Ch 11, starting in 2nd ch from hook, sc in each ch (10)
- Row 2–8: ch 1, turn, sc in each st (10)
Fold the small rectangle up so the bottom meets row 6, forming a pocket with a flap. Sew the side edges together with whip stitches. Round the flap by working along its edge:
- Flap edging: Attach yarn at one side of flap, sc evenly across, making small dec at corners to round; FO.
For the strap, ch enough to cross from one shoulder to opposite hip and back (about 55–60 ch). Sc in each ch, FO. Sew each end securely to top corners of the pouch. Add a tiny spiral or button detail on the flap if desired.
Roasted Drumstick
Start with light beige yarn for the bone.
- Rnd 1: MR, 5 sc (5)
- Rnd 2–4: sc around (5)
Change to brown yarn for the meat.
- Rnd 5: (1 sc, inc) repeat around (7)
- Rnd 6: (2 sc, inc) repeat around (9)
- Rnd 7–8: sc around (9)
- Rnd 9: (2 sc, dec) repeat around (7)
- Rnd 10: (1 sc, dec) repeat around (5)
Stuff firmly, especially near the bone end, then FO and close the opening. Shape gently with your fingers to resemble a plump drumstick. Sew it into one of the mouse’s hands so it points upward, as if she is carrying a hearty fair snack.
Flower Crown
Use scraps of colorful yarn for blossoms and green for tiny leaves.
Base band:
- Row 1: With green yarn, ch 42 (or enough to fit around head in front of ears), sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch (41).
FO, leaving long tails for tying or sewing at the back of the head.
Simple tiny flowers (make about 8–10 in various colors):
- MR, (ch 2, 2 dc, ch 2, sl st) repeat 4 times into ring to form petals, FO.
Little leaves (make 6–8):
- Ch 4, sc in 2nd ch from hook, hdc in next ch, sc in last ch, FO.
Sew the flowers and leaves along the band, concentrating them at the front center for a full garland look. Position crown on the mouse’s head, just in front of the ears, and tie or sew the ends together.
Assembly
- Sew the legs securely to the underside of the body so the mouse stands balanced. The toes of the shoes should point slightly outward for a natural stance.
- Attach the tail to the lower back of the body, letting it curve gently to one side.
- Place the cream collar around the neck and sew its ends together at the back. Stitch the collar lightly to the neck so it stays flat.
- Position the head on the body, centered over the collar. Sew around the neck opening with small, tight stitches, going through both head and body all the way around.
- Attach the ears on either side of the head between rnds 4 and 7. Pinch the base of each ear slightly so they tilt forward; sew firmly.
- Sew the arms to the sides of the body at shoulder height, slightly angled forward. Check that one hand can comfortably hold the drumstick and the other hangs near the pouch.
- Place a puff sleeve cap over each shoulder seam where the arm meets the body. Sew around the edge, lightly gathering to create the puffed look under the bodice straps.
- Slide the skirt downward so its waistline rests at the narrowest part of the torso. Make sure it hangs evenly all around.
- Wrap the green bodice around the torso over the skirt’s top edge and collar. Sew the back edges together and tack the lower edge to the skirt so it does not ride up. Adjust the straps on the shoulders and sew them in place.
- Put the crossbody pouch strap over one shoulder so the bag rests at the opposite hip. Sew small stitches at shoulder and hip to keep the strap in position.
- Stitch the drumstick firmly into one hand, adding a couple of hidden stitches between the meat part and the arm to keep it from drooping.
- Place the flower crown on the head, in front of the ears. Secure with a few stitches so it stays centered even when the mouse is moved.
Finishing & Customization
Weave in all yarn ends carefully, hiding them inside the body and clothing pieces. Roll the stuffed parts between your hands to smooth out lumps and refine the shapes. Adjust the skirt gently, tugging the stitches so the hem falls in a wide circle. You may lightly steam-block the skirt and bodice if your yarn allows it, keeping the steam at a safe distance.
For extra charm, lightly shade the cheeks with a small amount of blush or fabric-safe pigment. Add more embroidered flowers to the bodice or skirt hem, or change the colors of the crown to match a favorite fair theme. You can also create additional props such as a tiny wooden mug or bread loaf by modifying the drumstick instructions, giving your Renaissance Fair Maiden Mouse a whole market stall of goodies.
