The Shell Collector Rabbit – Free Crochet Pattern

There is a special kind of peace found walking along the shoreline, listening to the rhythm of the waves and hunting for treasures in the sand. “The Shell Collector” rabbit captures that serene vacation memory perfectly. She is a character who loves the salty sea breeze and the joy of finding the perfect seashell.

This nostalgic amigurumi features a soft, heather-grey rabbit with long, listening ears. She is dressed in a timeless coastal outfit: a classic Navy and White striped sailor shirt worn underneath a practical, sand-beige pinafore dress. The dress features deep, generous pockets on the hips—essential for storing her finds. To protect her from the coastal sun and wind, she wears a wide-brimmed straw hat secured with a tie under her chin. Her feet are ready for the dunes in comfortable espadrille-style sandals. She carries a mesh net bag for sifting sand from her treasures, holds a beautiful pink conch shell, and is accompanied by a tiny, curious orange crab.

Gauge & Finished Size

Work tightly in continuous spiral rounds for the rabbit body so the stuffing does not show. Using DK yarn and a 2.5mm hook, the finished rabbit stands approximately 28 cm (11 inches) tall. The clothing is designed to be removable.

Construction Overview

The rabbit is constructed in pieces. The legs are made first and joined to form the body. The “shirt” is created by changing colors on the upper torso, ensuring a slim fit under the dress. The head is a sphere with sewn-on ears. The pinafore dress is a separate removable garment with big patch pockets. The straw hat is worked in a continuous spiral with a wide brim. The accessories—net bag, shell, and crab—are detailed miniatures.
