The Girl Scout Puppy – Free Crochet Pattern

Prepare for a nostalgic adventure into the great outdoors with “The Girl Scout Puppy.” This charming character embodies the spirit of friendship, learning, and camping under the stars. Whether you are a former scout yourself or simply love the wholesome aesthetic of merit badges and cookie season, this puppy is ready to earn her place in your heart.

This sweet puppy features soft cream-colored fur and floppy ears that are always listening for instructions. She is dressed in a classic scouting uniform, featuring a smart beige shirt and a deep forest green A-line skirt. Her pride and joy is her sash, decorated with colorful embroidered merit badges representing her many skills. To complete the uniform, she wears a green beret adorned with a gold star and sturdy brown Oxford shoes with white knee-high socks. She is fully equipped for a field trip with a detailed camping backpack carrying a rolled sleeping blanket and, of course, a box of famous Girl Scout cookies to share. Her woodland friend, a tiny squirrel holding an acorn, tags along for the hike.

Gauge & Finished Size

Work tightly in continuous spiral rounds for the puppy body so the stuffing does not show. Using DK yarn and a 2.5mm hook, the finished puppy stands approximately 28 cm (11 inches) tall. The clothing is designed to be removable or integrated depending on the part (shoes/socks are integrated for stability).

Construction Overview

The puppy is constructed in pieces. The legs are made first, starting with the brown shoes, transitioning to white socks, and then joining to form the body. The torso color changes to beige to simulate the shirt tucked in. The head is crocheted separately and sewn on. The skirt is a separate removable garment. The sash is a strip with embroidered details. The backpack is a detailed accessory with a flap and straps. The squirrel is a miniature companion.
