The Maple Syrup Bear – Free Crochet Pattern

This adorable bear features a unique coat color, reminiscent of cinnamon and autumn bark. She is dressed practically yet stylishly for a day of gathering sap in the maple groves. Her outfit consists of a textured, oatmeal-colored sweater worn underneath a stunning Brick Red pinafore dress. The dress is designed with a ribbed texture to mimic the look of vintage corduroy fabric. To keep her ears warm against the chilly wind, she wears a chunky, variegated knit-look toque (beanie) topped with a fluffy pompom. On her feet, she wears sturdy textured booties perfect for crunching through fallen leaves.

No maple harvest is complete without the goods! She carries a ceramic-style jug filled with amber syrup and holds a freshly fallen, bright orange Maple Leaf. Waiting for her at home is a delicious stack of miniature pancakes, topped with a pat of butter and a drizzle of her hard work. This pattern is perfect for intermediate crocheters who love seasonal themes and cozy textures.

Please note: I strive for accuracy in every pattern, but occasional errors can happen. Thank you for understanding and for enjoying my designs.

Gauge & Finished Size

Work tightly in continuous spiral rounds for the bear body so the stuffing does not show. Using DK yarn and a 2.5mm hook, the finished bear stands approximately 28 cm (11 inches) tall. The clothing is designed to be removable, adding to the charm and detail of the piece.

Construction Overview

The bear is constructed in pieces. The legs are made first and joined to form the body. The head is round with a distinct snout sewn on. The sweater is worked as a separate garment using a textured stitch to contrast with the smooth bear fur. The pinafore dress is worked with a ribbed skirt to simulate corduroy. The hat is a separate accessory. The accessories—leaf, jug, and pancakes—are detailed miniatures.
