The Popcorn Vendor Sheep – Free Crochet Pattern

This adorable ewe is designed with a rich texture using the bobble stitch to create her signature woolly coat, which hilariously resembles the snacks she sells. She is dressed to impress in a spirited outfit featuring a dress with bold red and white stripes, mimicking the classic design of a retro popcorn bucket. To look professional for her job at the fairgrounds, she wears a smart, cropped blue cardigan jacket, finished with a dapper red bow tie at the collar.

She is ready for a day on her feet in sporty red high-top sneakers with white laces. Her accessories are storytelling masterpieces: she carries a cross-body bag designed to look exactly like a vintage “Admit One” cinema ticket, and in her hand, she holds a bucket overflowing with buttery popcorn. Perched loyally on her shoulder is her colorful companion, a bright red and blue parrot, ready to greet customers. This pattern is designed for intermediate crocheters who enjoy working with texture and color work.

Gauge & Finished Size

Work tightly in continuous spiral rounds for the sheep body so the stuffing does not show. Using DK yarn and a 2.5mm hook, the finished sheep stands approximately 28 cm (11 inches) tall. The bobble stitches will add significant volume to the head.

Construction Overview

The sheep is constructed in pieces. The legs are made first, starting with the detailed sneakers, and are joined to form the body. The dress is worked directly onto the body (or separately if preferred, but integrated is sturdier) with distinct color changes. The head is the highlight, featuring a smooth face that transitions into a full “popcorn” texture cap. The jacket is a separate removable piece. The accessories—popcorn bucket, ticket bag, and parrot—are detailed miniatures.
