The Laundry Day Sheep – Free Crochet Pattern

This adorable ewe features a coat of textured, cream-colored wool, achieved through a special stitch to give her a huggable, fluffy appearance. She is dressed for a busy but happy day of chores in a comfortable House Dress in a soft blush pink, dotted with embroidered flowers reminiscent of vintage fabrics. To keep her wool clean while she works, she wears a crisp white kerchief tied neatly over her head and a practical white apron with a large, functional pocket for holding clothespins. On her feet are cozy, open-toed house slippers. Her accessories tell the story of her day: a woven-style laundry basket waiting to be filled, a tiny sock she is ready to pin up, and a friendly little sparrow perched on the clothesline nearby. This pattern is perfect for intermediate crocheters who enjoy creating texture and storytelling scenes.

Gauge & Finished Size

Work tightly in continuous spiral rounds for the sheep body so the stuffing does not show. Using DK yarn and a 2.5mm hook, the finished sheep stands approximately 28 cm (11 inches) tall. The clothing is designed to be removable, adding an element of play and customization.

Construction Overview

The sheep is constructed in pieces. The head begins with a smooth beige face and transitions into a textured “woolly” cap using Bobble stitches. The body is also textured to simulate a thick fleece. The legs are made separately and joined to the body. The dress is worked from the neck down. The apron is a separate piece with a pocket. The accessories—basket, sock, and sparrow—are detailed miniatures.
