The “Hyacinth Bulb” Bunny – Free Knitting Pattern

Her wardrobe is a study in texture and rich color, utilizing a palette of Deep Hyacinth Purple, Powder Pink, and Fresh Leaf Green. She is dressed for a special occasion in a luxurious Deep Purple Velvet-Style Dress. This dress mimics the look of chenille or velvet, offering a tactile softness that contrasts beautifully with her wool fur. To warm her shoulders, she wears a delicate Powder Pink Bolero, a cropped cardigan with a rounded neck that highlights the dress beneath.

Her accessories complete the botanical theme. She wears a charming Headband adorned with a cluster of five-petaled purple hyacinth florets. On her feet are matching Purple Ballet Flats. She carries a unique and sophisticated prop: a Hyacinth Bulb with delicate white roots, designed to sit atop a real glass vase (or a prop one), capturing the “forcing” process perfectly. A tiny Ladybug resting on a green leaf keeps her company.

    • Oatmeal: Approx. 50g for the bunny body.
    • Deep Hyacinth Purple: Approx. 40g. (If possible, use a smooth chenille or velvet yarn for the dress to match the image description; otherwise, standard DK works).

    • Earth Brown: Approx. 15g for the bulb.
    • White: Scrap for the roots.
    • Green: Scrap for the leaf.

  • Needles:
    • US 3 (3.25 mm) DPNs or circular needles (Bunny, Shoes, Bulb, Accessories).
    • US 4 (3.5 mm) Straight or circular needles (Clothing).
  • Notions: Fiberfill stuffing, tapestry needle, stitch markers, black embroidery floss (eyes), a small glass bottle or hourglass-shaped spice jar to act as the “Forcing Vase”.

Gauge & Finished Size

  • Gauge: 24 sts and 30 rows = 4 inches (10 cm) in stockinette stitch on US 3 needles.
  • Finished Size: Approximately 14 inches (36 cm) tall from shoes to the tips of the ears.

Construction Overview

  • Bunny: Worked in the round from the feet up. Legs are knitted separately, then joined to form the hips. The body and head are one continuous piece. Arms and ears are knitted separately and sewn on.
  • Velvet Dress: Worked flat. The skirt is gathered at the waist. The texture is key here, so simple stockinette stitch allows the yarn’s color to shine.
  • Pink Bolero: A cropped, open-front jacket with long sleeves, worked from the top down raglan-style but stopped short at the waist.
  • Headband: A simple band adorned with knitted florets.
  • The Bulb: A shaped sphere with attached roots, designed to rest in a prop vase.
