- Needles
- US 2.5–3 (3.0–3.25 mm) double-pointed needles or circulars for knitting small circumferences in the round
- A second set one size smaller for tiny accessories if desired
- Notions
- Toy stuffing
- 2 small black safety eyes (6–7 mm) or black embroidery thread
- Tapestry needle
- Stitch markers
- Optional: thin elastic or ribbon for the skirt waistband
Gauge is not critical, but fabric should be firm so stuffing does not show through.
Gauge & Finished Size
- Approximate gauge: 28 sts = 4″ (10 cm) in stockinette in the round using US 3 (3.25 mm) needles.
- Finished height: Bunny stands about 7–8″ (18–20 cm) tall including ears, if knit at gauge.
If your gauge is looser, go down a needle size to keep the fabric dense.
Construction Overview
- Bunny is worked mostly in the round from the feet up with separate arms, ears, and tail sewn on.
- Clothes and accessories are removable: hoodie, skirt, beanie, backpack, lantern, campfire, and marshmallow stick.
- The design uses simple increases and decreases, focusing on clear shapes and visible knit stitches to match a realistic handmade look.

Facial Features
Using light brown yarn, embroider a small oval nose centered between eyes, one or two rnds below their level. Add a short vertical stitch down from the nose and a tiny V for the mouth. Embroider a few whisker dots if desired.
Hoodie
The hoodie is worked bottom-up in the round, then split for armholes and finished flat.
Using olive green yarn:
CO 60 sts. Join in the round, pm.
Ribbing:
Rnd 1–6: k1, p1 around (bottom hem).
Body:
Rnd 7–26: k all for a simple stockinette body.
Divide for front and back (30 sts each). Work back first:
Back

Row 2 (RS): k30.
Repeat Rows 1–2 for 10 rows total.
Shoulder and neck shaping:
Row 11 (WS): p8, BO 14 sts, p8 (two shoulder sections).
Working each side separately:
First shoulder:
Row 12 (RS): k8.
Row 13 (WS): p8.
BO 8 sts.
Rejoin yarn to remaining 8 sts for second shoulder and work as first shoulder. Break yarn.

Side-Seams & Armholes
Sew shoulder seams. With RS together, sew side seams from hem up to armhole opening.
Sleeves (make 2)
With hoodie RS facing, pick up approximately 28 sts evenly around each armhole (adjust for your gauge but keep an even number).
Rnd 1–4: k1, p1 around (cuff rib).
Rnd 5–16: k all.
Rnd 17: k2, k2tog around (reduce slightly if sleeve looks wide).
Rnd 18–20: k all.
BO loosely. Repeat for second sleeve.
Hood
With RS facing and using same yarn, pick up sts around neck opening, starting at one front edge and ending at the other, including back neck: aim for about 46–50 sts depending on tension (even number).
Row 1 (WS): p across.
Row 2 (RS): k across.
Repeat these 2 rows until hood measures about 2.5–3″ (6–7.5 cm) from pick-up edge.
To shape top of hood, fold work so RS are together and graft or BO sts using three-needle bind off, creating a soft square top.
Make two small I-cords for drawstrings if you like (optional) and thread through the neckline row.
Patchwork Skirt
The skirt is knit flat as a color-blocked band and then sewn into a tube.
Using moss green for waistband:
CO 72 sts.
Rows 1–4: k1, p1 rib for waistband.
Switch to stockinette and begin patchwork blocks. Work in bands of 6 sts wide × 6 rows high, changing colors to create a patchwork feel (mustard, rust, cream, moss, soft green, etc.). You can simply change color every 6 rows and sometimes every 6 sts to mimic tiny squares; keep your floats loose and secure ends neatly.
Work skirt for about 2.5″ (6–7 cm) from waistband.
Finish hem:
K 4 rows in moss green, then BO loosely.
Sew short sides together to form a tube. Thread a thin piece of elastic or ribbon through the waistband rib if you want it to sit securely at the bunny’s waist.

CO 44 sts. Join in the round.
Rnd 1–6: k1, p1 rib.
Rnd 7–16: k all.

Rnd 24: k4, k2tog around (20 sts).
Rnd 25: k3, k2tog around (16 sts).
Cut yarn, thread through remaining sts, pull tight and secure.
For the tiny “camp patch” on the brim, duplicate stitch a small triangle tree or tent motif using contrasting green or dark yarn.
Shoes (make 2)
Using camel/tan yarn:
CO 12 sts. Work flat.
Row 1 (RS): k all.
Row 2: p all.

Row 9 (RS): k2, k2tog, k8, ssk, k2 (14 sts).

Rnd 1–4: k all.
Rnd 5: k1, p1 around for cuff.
Rnd 6: repeat rib. BO loosely.
Slide shoes onto bunny’s feet; they should look like soft moccasins.
Backpack
Body of backpack:
Using gray yarn, CO 18 sts. Work in stockinette flat.
Rows 1–20: work even.
Fold piece so CO and last row meet; seam sides to form a pocket.
Flap: With RS facing and top edge toward you, pick up 12 sts across one side of opening.

Row 2–6: stockinette.
Row 7 (RS): k2, k2tog, k4, ssk, k2 (10 sts).

Lantern
Using dark teal or green yarn:
CO 8 sts. Join in the round.
Rnd 1–6: k all (outer frame).
Break yarn, leaving tail for sewing.
Inner “glass”: with yellow or light orange yarn:
CO 6 sts. Knit 6–7 rows in stockinette flat. Roll into a tube and stitch closed; stuff lightly.
Insert “glass” into frame, sewing bottom and top in place.
Handle:
Work a small I-cord of 8 rows using frame color; sew ends to top of lantern so it stands like a small looped handle.
Campfire & Marshmallow Stick
Logs (make 3–4)
With dark brown yarn:
CO 6 sts. Knit I-cord for 10–12 rows. BO, stuff lightly if desired, and sew ends closed. Arrange logs in a small pile and stitch together.
Flames

CO 4 sts.
Row 1: k all.
Row 2: p all.
Row 3: kfb, k2, kfb (6 sts).
Row 4: p all.
Row 5: k2tog, k2, ssk (4 sts).
Row 6: p2tog twice (2 sts).
Row 7: k2tog.
Make 3–4 flames in orange and gold shades, then sew them upright on top of the log pile, staggering their heights for a realistic, flickering look.
Marshmallow Stick
With brown yarn:
CO 3 sts and knit I-cord for 12–14 rows. BO and secure.
With white yarn:
CO 8 sts. Work 6 rows in stockinette flat. Sew short ends together to form a ring, then gather one edge closed. Stuff lightly, then gather the other edge to form a soft cube or cylinder. Stitch the marshmallow firmly to one end of the stick.
Place the stick into the bunny’s hand with a few securing stitches so it looks like she’s roasting the marshmallow over the fire.
Assembly & Finishing
- Dress the bunny in her patchwork skirt first, then pull on the hoodie and slide her arms through the sleeves.
- Pop the beanie on, tilting it slightly back so the ears stand tall.
- Put the backpack straps over her shoulders.
- Arrange the campfire and lantern on a small wooden surface or knit mat, then pose the bunny holding the marshmallow stick angled toward the flames.
Shape gently with your hands, smoothing the stitches so the knit texture is clear and crisp. Take photos in natural light on a wooden table or cozy sofa to match the realistic handmade look of the original scene.
