Moss-Green Cable Cardigan (flat; US 3)

A tidy V-neck cardigan with two wooden-look buttons and a single 6-st braid cable running along each front. Designed to sit open just like the photo (no buttonholes needed; buttons are decorative).

Cable Pattern (worked every 8th RS row)

  • RS Cable Row: Work 6-st cable panel as C6B (slip next 3 sts to cable needle and hold to back, k3, k3 from cable needle). Then knit remainder to armhole.

Continue in stockinette with the cable panel along CF edge.
At row 28, V-neck shaping: On RS, k to last 10 sts; k2tog; work 6-st panel. Repeat neck dec every 4th RS row 5 times (creates gentle V).
At row 36: BO 3 sts at armhole edge once, then BO 2 sts once.

Shoulder: BO 6, then 5, mirroring back. Place 5 live sts at neck on holder.

Button Bump on Flap (knit-in)
Pick up 1 st at the center of flap edge; work 3 rows of I-cord and BO—this forms the little raised dot you see.

Strap (brown)
I-cord CO 3; work 10.5–11 in. Attach at top corners so the strap runs diagonally across the chest once (there is only one strap; do not add a second).

Tiny Books (3 pcs)
For each book, cut a small cardboard core 1 x 0.75 in.
Knit a stockinette strip (US 3) 6 sts wide x 14 rows for cover.

Mug of Cocoa (cream)

Cup
CO 16 in the round on dpns (US 3).
Rnds 1–4: k (forming cylinder).
Rnd 5: p (creates inner rim ridge).
Rnds 6–10: k. Bind off leaving a long tail.
Cut a ¾-in felt/knit circle for base; whipstitch base, then stuff lightly before closing completely.

Handle
CO 8, BO immediately to form a narrow strip; sew as a “C” curve to cup side.

Cocoa Surface
With brown, satin-stitch a circle inside rim. Add three white French knots (marshmallows). Tack mug to right paw.

Assembly & Face Details

  1. Ears: Pin with slight forward tilt and sew securely atop head, about 9–10 sts apart.
  2. Arms: After the cardigan is on, ladder-stitch arms to sides so paws sit just above skirt waistband.
  3. Legs: Position legs under body openings; ladder-stitch neatly so shoes sit flat. Add soles if you knit them.
  4. Outfit order: Put on skirt → cardigan → scarf wrap → beret angled left.
  5. Satchel: Sling brown I-cord strap from left shoulder to right hip; secure a stitch at shoulder and hip so it stays diagonally.
  6. Final grooming: With a blunt needle, nudge stuffing to round the cheeks and smooth seams. Use a tiny brush to lift fibers on the shoes and skirt ribbing for the plush, “photographed-product” look.

Finishing & Blocking

  • Light steam only, hovering the iron above (do not touch acrylics or blends).
  • Shape the beret crown into a soft dome.
  • Pat the cardigan cables to pop.
  • Trim any fuzz from embroidered “Read Me” so letters stay clean.

Troubleshooting & Tips

  • Stitch definition like the photo comes from tight gauge on the toy (US 2.5) and slightly looser gauge on garments (US 3). If your fabric looks loose, drop a needle size.
  • For even cheeks, stuff the head early (after Rnd 23) and again at Rnd 26.
  • The Mary Jane ridge at shoe Rnd 6 is subtle; don’t skip it—it visually creates the strap line seen in the picture.
  • Keep the satchel strap a single brown I-cord. If a second strap appears or the color looks off, remove and reattach so it matches the bag body exactly.
  • If the skirt pulls, check your BO—re-bind off using a larger needle or Jeny’s Surprisingly Stretchy BO.

Customization Ideas

  • Add an extra tiny bookmark tassel dangling from the satchel.
  • Swap “Read Me” for a name or library card number.
  • Make a glasses cord from sewing thread and bendable wire ends for a studious vibe.
  • Work the cardigan in tweedy wool for even richer texture.

Recap

You’ve made the Bookshop Autumn Bunny: cream bunny with tilted burgundy beret and leaf, moss-green cabled V-neck cardigan, maroon A-line skirt with “Read Me” hem, brown Mary Janes, a chestnut satchel on a single brown strap packed with tiny books, plus a warm cocoa mug. The dense gauge, clean shaping, and thoughtful finishing replicate the photographed look with clear, repeatable steps. Enjoy your new bookshelf friend!
