Clothing and props are independent pieces: pleated tartan skirt, navy cardigan with elbow patches and wooden buttons, olive scarf, navy beret with gold letter, tan brogues, moss-green satchel with tan flap/strap, butterfly brooch, spectacles, magnifying glass, and mini book stacks. Outfit & Accessories
Pleated Tartan Skirt
Color palette: Navy, forest, rust, and gold over a muted brown base.
Construction: knit flat from hem upward with easy “fake pleat” ribs; tartan stripes are worked as narrow vertical slipped-st lines then finished with duplicate-st horizontals.
Hem & Panels
With brown base, CO 126 sts (multiple of 6).
Rows 1–6: k5, p1 across (wrong-side purls become pleat valleys).
Work body in pattern: keep k5, p1 repeat for all rows (creates reversible pleat shadow). Knit until piece measures 3.25″ (8.2 cm).
Tartan Vertical Lines
On RS knit rows, change the center st of every second knit-panel to navy for 4 rows, then back to brown; stagger forest lines every third panel in the same way. (Carry floats neatly on WS.)
Waistband
Switch to navy; work 6 rows 1×1 rib. BO loosely. Sew back seam. Thread a thin elastic if you like, or seam to exact waist measurement.
Horizontal Lines (dup st)
Using gold and rust, work two narrow stripes around the skirt spaced about 8 rows apart, crossing over the verticals to read as tartan. Steam lightly to set pleats.
Navy Cardigan with Elbow Patches
Worked flat; classic crew neck, three wooden buttons, brown ovals on elbows.
Back
CO 46 sts navy.
Rows 1–6: 1×1 rib.

Work st st to 3.2″ (8 cm).
Neck shaping: at neck edge, BO 1 st every RS row ×4.
Armhole depth matches back; BO shoulder to align.
Right Front – mirror; place buttonholes: on RS row after rib, k2, yo, k2tog at 3 evenly spaced points along band.
Sleeves (make 2)
CO 26 sts.
Rows 1–4: 1×1 rib.
Inc 1 st each side every 6th row 4 times (34 sts).
Work to 3.25″ (8.2 cm); BO.
Finishing
Seam shoulders and sides; set sleeves. Pick up around neckline with navy and work 4 garter rows; BO.
Elbow patches: With brown, CO 12 sts; work 10 rows st st; on next RS: ssk, k to last 2, k2tog; WS purl; repeat once; BO. Sew centered on sleeves at elbow.
Sew three small wooden buttons to right front to match buttonholes.

Row 4: ssk, k4, k2tog (6). BO.
Make two pieces; overlap as upper + lower wing. Wrap brown yarn between them several times to form body and leave two tiny antennae. Stitch to right sleeve cuff.
Spectacles (wire)
Bend thin craft wire around a pencil to form two ⅜” (1 cm) rings; twist bridge; add short arms and secure ends into the cardigan fabric behind the ears (cover tips with thread). Keep proportions small and round like the photo.
Magnifying Glass
Rim & Handle (gray)
Wrap wire into a ¾” (2 cm) ring. With gray yarn, single-crochet around the ring or work a tight i-cord and whipstitch over it.
Knit a short 3-st i-cord handle (~10 rows) and stitch to the ring. Add a tiny gold thread around one edge to mimic the metal rim. Place in the right paw.
Mini Book Stacks (optional props)
Work small book “blocks”: CO 12, knit 8 rows in green or red; BO; fold around a rectangle of felt as “pages,” glue or stitch, and embroider simple spines. Stack in threes.
Assembly
- Block clothing lightly if needed (avoid steaming stuffed body).
- Attach ears high on head so beret sits between and behind them.
- Sew arms just below neck, angled slightly forward.
- Sew tail at back.
- Dress bunny: put on skirt, then cardigan (button up), wrap scarf in a simple knot.
- Place beret tilted to the right; add the gold M if you haven’t.
- Slip on brogues and tie little bows.
- Hang satchel across the body (strap left shoulder to right hip).
- Pin butterfly brooch to right cuff.
- Fit spectacles gently in front of ears.
- Place magnifying glass in left hand and a small book stack at feet or in right arm as in the image. Tack items with a couple invisible stitches for display security.
Finishing & Customization
- Keep stuffing firm in head and hips for a balanced stance among the book stacks.
- If gifting to a child, embroider eyes and avoid wire glasses; stitch magnifier and satchel securely.
- Tartan: adjust stripe colors to match your local yarns—retain navy/forest/rust/gold rhythm to keep the same bookstore vibe.
- Swap the “M” for your initial, or leave the beret plain.
- Add elbow-patch topstitching in lighter brown for extra realism.
