Introduction
Say hello to the Seaside Gelato Bunny—a pastel-perfect knitted bunny posed against a breezy boardwalk. She wears a seafoam sailor blouse with a navy-and-cream neckerchief, three tiny “scoop” buttons down the front, a tiered gelato skirt in soft stripes, cream Mary Jane shoes, and a tidy white sailor cap with a blue band. In one paw she holds a triple-scoop cone; crossbody is a cone-shaped purse that matches.
Please note: I strive for accuracy in every pattern, but occasional errors can happen. Thank you for understanding and for enjoying my designs.
Form Study & Proportions

Tiered Gelato Skirt (three tiers; removable)
Waistband: With seafoam, CO 60; join.
Rnd 1–3: k1 p1 rib.
Rnd 4: k; Rnd 5: p to create a tiny ridge (photo shows a faint seam).
Tier 1 (Seafoam):
Rnd 6: k.
Rnd 7 (increase): k2, M1 around every third stitch to 80 sts.
Rnds 8–14: k even.
Switch yarn to aqua/teal for Tier 2 pick-up later; do not BO.
Create ledge for Tier 2: With working sts on needle, pick up and knit 80 sts from the purl ridge of Tier 1 (one row above the waistband) using aqua; place these on a spare circular. This allows Tier 2 to grow outward under Tier 1.
Tier 2 (Aqua):
Work on the picked-up sts:
Rnd A: k3, M1 around → 100 sts.
Rnds B–H: k even (7 rnds).
Leave live for Tier 3 pick-up; again, pick up 100 sts from the first rnd of Tier 2 with pastel pink on a new needle.
Tier 3 (Pastel Pink, lowest/longest):
Rnd i: k4, M1 around → 125 sts.
Rnds j–q: k even (8 rnds).
Hem: k1 p1 rib 3 rnds; BO loosely.
Return to Tier 2 live sts and BO neatly. Return to Tier 1 live sts and BO. The layered effect creates three visible ruffles matching the photo (seafoam upper, aqua middle, pink lower), each slightly longer than the one above.
Sailor Cap (Cream with Blue Band)
Band (Blue): CO 56; join.
Rnds 1–5: k1 p1 rib (snug).
Switch to cream.
Crown:
Rnd 1: k6, kfb around (64)
Rnd 2: k
Rnd 3: k7, kfb around (72)
Rnd 4: k
Rnd 5: k8, kfb around (80)
Rnd 6–8: k even for a shallow rise.
Top shaping (flat disk look):
k8, k2tog around (72) → 1 rnd k → k7, k2tog (64) → 1 rnd k → k6, k2tog (56) → k5, k2tog (48) → k4, k2tog (40) → k3, k2tog (32) → k2, k2tog (24) → k2tog around (12). Draw closed. Lightly steam so the top stays flat, brim horizontal; seat cap low on ears.
Cone Purse (Crossbody) & Strap
Cone (tan):
CO 12; join.
Rnd 1: k.
Rnd 2: k3, k2tog around (10).
Rnd 3: k2, k2tog around (8).
Rnd 4: k.
Repeat Rnds 2–4 twice more → narrow cone ~3.5″ long. To mimic waffle, work k1, p1 spirals randomly for 2 rnds. BO. Close tip; leave top open.
Scoop-flap (cream):
CO 24; work [k1, yo, k2tog] across to make a picot-like edge; k 2 rows; BO. Sew along top inside of cone so scallops peek out like melting ice-cream. Leave center front open as a flap.
Strap (seafoam or pink):
CO 3 on 2.5 mm; knit i-cord 26–28 rows; BO. Sew to back of cone to wear from right shoulder to left hip (as in photo). Optionally add a small snap to close the flap.
Handheld Triple-Scoop Cone
Cone (tan): CO 10; k2, k2tog around (7) → k 1 rnd → k1, k2tog around (5) → draw closed (length ~2.25″). Work faint waffle purls as above.
Scoops (make 3 in lemon, pistachio, strawberry):
CO 6; kfb around (12) → k → k1, kfb around (18) → k 2 rnds → k2tog around (9) → stuff lightly → draw closed.
Stack scoops on cone; sew securely so the bunny can “hold” it.
Dressing & Finishing
- Attach arms level with neck base, hands reaching the skirt line.
- Sew ears with slight forward tilt.
- Put on blouse, fasten back seam with tiny snaps or discreet whipstitch if you prefer fixed clothing. Add the sailor collar and tie the neckerchief.
- Slide on skirt, ensuring tiers descend seafoam → aqua → pink.
- Fit the cap low over the ears; blue band centered above forehead.
- Place shoes’ straps across insteps.
- Hang cone purse crossbody; handheld cone sits in the right paw. Hide a tiny tack stitch in palm to hold it for photography if needed.
Blocking & Care
Light steam the garments and cap only (avoid direct steam on the stuffed body). Shape collar points and cap top while warm. Spot-clean with cool water and mild soap; air-dry flat. Store accessories separately to protect tiers and cone edges.
