Bagel Brunch Bunny – Free Knitting Pattern

Introduction

Meet the Bagel Brunch Bunny—a cozy, hand-knit plush styled in a sesame-dot beret, mint-and-cream striped tee, warm beige shortalls with a bagel-shaped pocket, olive Mary Jane shoes, and a tiny “BRUNCH” tote. This pattern is written to match the photograph precisely: gentle pastel palette, soft natural proportions, and removable knit accessories.

Please note: I strive for accuracy in every pattern, but occasional errors can happen. Thank you for understanding and for enjoying my designs.

Form Study (Quick Build Analysis)

  • Overall height (seated): ~8.5–9 in (22–23 cm). Proportions are intentionally cute: head ≈ 45% of total height, body ≈ 35%, legs + shoes ≈ 20%.
  • Head: Spherical/oval with a soft crown; widest circumference ≈ 17–18 cm when lightly stuffed. Face sits centered; cheeks gently rounded.
  • Ears: Medium length, slightly forward-facing; base angle ≈ 20° from vertical to feel perky.
  • Arms: Slender, lightly stuffed; hang just below bib line of shortalls.
  • Legs & Shoes: Short, seated bend implied. Shoes are plump Mary Jane style with a single strap; toe is round.
  • Garment fit: Tee is slim (not tight), sleeves short. Shortalls sit high on waist with rolled hems; bib rises to mid-chest; straps button at back or front.
  • Accessories scale:
    1. Beret: Diameter ≈ width of the face; dot “sesame seeds” are tiny bobbles or duplicate-stitch knots.
    2. Tote: Small, hangs from one paw; word “BRUNCH” centered; bagel patch on corner.
    3. Bagel pocket: Donut-ring on the bib, usable as a pocket for a tiny leaf or charm.
  • Stitch look: Dense, even stockinette typical of toys—no gaps when stuffing. Knit at a firm DK gauge, approximately 26 sts × 36 rows = 4″ (10 cm) in stockinette.
  • Angles & joins: Ears sewn at slight forward tilt; arms ladder-stitched on body sides aligned with neck base; shoes worked from sole up for crisp toe; overalls picked to sit clean over hips.

Dressing & Fit

  • Cross straps neatly.
  • Pop beret on with a slight tilt.
  • Place tote on one paw by tacking handle to paw to hold, or leave loose for photos.

Assembly & Finishing

  1. Attach arms: With head facing you, find the shoulder line 1 rnd below the neck. Ladder-stitch arm tops flat-to-body so they angle slightly forward.
  2. Sew ears: Pin first to test the tilt. Stitch bases securely, bury knots in head.
  3. Shape face: Add a tiny dab of stuffing behind cheeks if needed. Embroider nose/mouth neatly.
  4. Tidy shoes: If straps lift, add an invisible tack on the outside edge only.
  5. Steam/Block (light): Gently steam the garments (NOT the stuffed body) to settle fabric and keep pastel softness.
  6. Final pose: Seat bunny on a plate or wooden surface; tuck tote under arm; slip a tiny felt “cream cheese” inside the bagel pocket for a charming reveal.

Tips for Photo-Real Results

  • Keep stuffing consistent—firm but not tight—to avoid ridges.
  • Work all accessories at the same gauge for scale cohesion.
  • For the exact pastel look, choose matte yarns (cotton blends or non-sheen wool).
  • Natural light near a window reproduces the cozy vibe of the image.
