Introduction

The Tea-Room Sheep brings cozy afternoon-tea vibes to your shelf: mint vest, blush skirt, pillbox hat, proper handbag, and a tiny knitted tea set.





Please note: I strive for accuracy in every pattern, but occasional errors can happen. Thank you for understanding and for enjoying my designs.


Materials Needed

  • Yarn (DK, approx. 22–26 sts = 10 cm stockinette):
    1. Sheep base (cream/ivory): ~45 g
    2. Inner ear (light beige): scraps
    3. Vest (mint): ~20 g
    4. Skirt (blush pink): ~25 g
    5. Shoes + socks + hat + handbag + tea set (cream): ~30 g total
    6. Purse frame edge (antique gold embroidery thread or contrast yarn): scraps
    7. Face embroidery (dark brown/black), nose (soft beige or pink): scraps
  • Needles:
    1. US 3 (3.25 mm) circular/DPNs for most pieces
    2. US 2.5 (3.0 mm) for ribbings/shoes/hat edges
  • Notions: 6–7 mm safety eyes; tapestry needle; stitch markers; 2 small buttons for vest (6–7 mm); polyester fiberfill; small pouch of pellets for weight (optional); small metal purse frame (optional prop look) or just knit the clasp; blocking pins.

Gauge & Finished Size

  • Gauge (in the round): 26 sts × 36 rnds = 10 cm on US 3.
  • Finished size: ~22 cm tall; ear length ~3.5 cm; shoe length ~4.2 cm; tray Ø ~6.5 cm.

Color & Yardage Map

  • Cream: head, body, arms, legs, socks, shoes, hat, handbag, tea set.
  • Mint: vest.
  • Blush: skirt.
  • Light beige: inner ear accents.

Pattern Notes

  • Work in the round unless stated.
  • Safety eyes placement: between Head rnds 18–19, 9 sts apart (~2.0 cm).
  • Stuff firmly but not hard—keep rounded cheeks and stable ankles.
  • Invisible decreases (ssk front / k2tog back) keep shaping neat.
  • All seams with mattress stitch; weave ends securely.

Arms (make 2, cream)

Switch to 3 sts and work 4 rows I-cord to taper wrist; thread tail through sts to close. Lightly stuff upper arm only. Length ~7.5 cm.


Legs & Feet (make 2, cream base)

Foot: CO 8, join.

CLOTHING & ACCESSORIES

Pillbox Hat (cream)

Using US 2.5, CO 56 sts, join.
1–3) k1, p1 rib.
4–11) k even (side wall).

  • Row (RS) inc setup: k3 (band), k5, m1, k6, m1, k12, m1, k6, m1, k5, k3 (band) — 44 sts.
  • Work 6 rows even.
  • Armhole shaping: On next 2 RS rows, BO 2 sts after first band and before last band (total −8).
  • Continue straight until piece measures 6.5 cm from hem.
    Neck & front shaping:
  • BO center 10 sts for neck; work each side separately 2 cm, maintaining front bands.
    Buttonholes: On right band, work yo, k2tog on two evenly spaced RS rows.
    BO shoulders to back; sew side seams minimal so armholes remain open.

Pink A-Line Skirt (in the round)

With US 3, CO 78 sts, join.
1–6) k1, p1 rib.
7–22) k even.

Collar/eyelets: Pick up 26 sts around opening; k1, p1 rib 2 rows; next row work (yo, k2tog) four times evenly for lace holes; 1 more rib row; BO.
Laces: I-cord 2 sts × 12–13 cm each; thread and tie bows.


Handbag with Frame & Handle (cream)

Body (flat): CO 18 sts; work garter 30 rows (rectangle). Fold at row 15. Mattress stitch sides.
Top frame band: Pick up around opening 40–44 sts, k 3 rows; fold to inside and stitch down to create a firm rim.
Clasp bumps (no metal needed): CO 6 sts, k1 row, p1 row 4 times, roll into two tiny balls; sew centered at top.
Handle: I-cord 3 sts × 8–9 cm, attach to rim ends.

  • Rnd 5: k. BO loosely. Finger-block to a neat disc Ø ~4.2 cm.

Round Tray (flat, slightly larger):

  • CO 8 sts; Rnd 1 kfb around — 16
  • Rnd 2 (k1, m1) around — 32
  • Rnd 3 (k3, m1) around — 40
  • Rnd 4 (k4, m1) around — 48
  • Rnd 5 k. BO. Ø ~6.5 cm.
    Optional: work last rnd in slip-stitch every other st to mimic a tighter edge.

ASSEMBLY & PLACEMENT MAP

1) Head to Body

  • Align neck openings; ladder stitch. Head should sit vertical with no forward lean.

2) Ears

  • Fold base slightly; sew at head rnd ~7–8 from crown, about 12 sts apart; angle 10–15° downward to match photo.

3) Arms

  • Attach at body rnd ~30 from cast-on (just under vest armhole height). Arms hang straight with a front bias.

4) Legs

  • Sew centered under body, spacing ~2.2 cm between tops. Ensure both feet point forward and sit flat.

5) Tail

  • Sew low back, 4 rnds above body cast-on, pointing slightly down.

6) Face Details

  • If not using safety eyes, embroider small ovals in the same placement (between rnds 18–19, 9 sts apart).
  • Add tiny vertical stitch for nose and a short U-curve smile.

7) Dress the Lamb

  • Slide on socks (if made), then skirt.
  • Put on vest; sew on 2 mint-matching buttons to align with buttonholes.
  • Fit pillbox hat on crown; secure with one invisible tack.
  • Slip on shoes; tie bows.
  • Hang handbag over right hand as in photo (or over forearm).
  • Place knitted tray on left palm; sew a tiny hidden tack to steady. Stack saucer and cup; a dot of craft glue helps during display.

Exact Visual Targets

  • Ear length ~3.5 cm; outer-to-outer span ~7.5–8 cm.
  • Vest hem meets top of skirt rib; armhole depth ~2.5 cm.
  • Skirt length from waistband ~8.5–9 cm, slight A-line.
  • Shoes 4.2 cm long with small lace bows centered.
  • Tray Ø ~6.5 cm; saucer Ø ~4.2 cm; cup height ~2.2 cm.

Quality Check

  • Keep stuffing smooth at cheeks and hips; no lumps at neck join.
  • Even button band edges; pillbox top flat (light steam).
  • Skirt A-line falls straight; don’t over-block.
  • Shoe rib collar snug; laces symmetrical.

Care & Safety

For children under 3, replace safety eyes with embroidered eyes; secure all small accessories permanently.
