Introduction

Meet the Rainbow Roller Puppy—a pastel-loving pup ready for the roller rink! Please note: I strive for accuracy in every pattern, but occasional errors can happen. Thank you for understanding and for enjoying my designs.

Step 1) Visual Analysis & Proportions (Form, Ratios, Stitch Density)

  • Overall stance: standing; head height ≈ body height (1:1), classic amigurumi silhouette with slightly stout legs and relaxed arms.
  • Head: near-sphere with soft cheek line; safety eyes centered on the horizontal mid-third; small oval nose and short smile.
  • Ears: long floppy drop-ears (no stuffing) attached low on the sides; they hang to the shoulder line.
  • Body: gentle chest, straight torso; neck short so hoodie sits naturally.
  • Arms/Legs: cylinders that taper slightly at wrists/ankles; shoes add height and thickness.
  • Accessories fit:
    1. Bucket hat crown snug; brim shallow (~1.3–1.5 cm), rainbow appliqué centered front.
    2. Hoodie hits at natural waist; sleeves with folded cuffs; color blocks: mint base, lilac sleeves/hood lining, lemon triangle panel on left chest.
    3. Pleated skirt sits at waist; 12 crisp pleat columns; hem reaches mid-thigh.
    4. Belt bag cross-body right shoulder → left hip, pouch resting at front left.
    5. Sneakers white base, mint quarters/heel collars, peach lace & thin peach foxing stripe along midsole.
  • Stitch density: amigurumi worked tight sc at ~22 sts × 24 rnds = 10 cm; clothes at slightly looser 20 × 22 for drape.
  • Angles & placements (from head top down): ears sewn across head Rnds 6–9, eyes between Rnds 13–14 (8 sts apart), nose centered at Rnd 16; arms attached at body Rnd 22; skirt waistband covers body Rnds 12–13; belt strap crosses chest from right shoulder to left hip.

  2. BLO sc around (54)
  3. BLO sc around (54) — creates waistband ridge.

Pleats (12 columns)
Work the skirt downward in rounds; each pleat uses a tall center to create a crisp fold.

  1. [ (FLO: sc 2), (FLO: hdc 1), (FLO: dc 2), (FLO: tr 1), (FLO: dc 2), (FLO: hdc 1) ] ×6 repeats = 12 pleats (maintain 54 sts total).
5–6. Repeat Rnd 4 exactly to deepen pleats.
  2. Even round in FLO: sc around, maintaining stitch heights at each pleat (follow the same distribution to keep folds).
  3. Hem: sl st loosely around for a clean edge; FO and weave in.
Skirt length should end at mid-thigh; if your gauge runs short, add one more pleat-shaping round.

Neck opening & Hood (M outside, L lining)

  • Row work (back-and-forth) to build hood:
    • Rows 1–8: ch 1, sc across (turn each row).
    • Switch to L for Rows 9–12 (lining at the face edge).
  • Fold the hood in half and seam the top with sl sts.

  3. Sew arms at Rnd 22, angled slightly forward.
  4. Dress: skirt → hoodie → sneakers → hat.
  5. Fit belt bag; tack strap at right shoulder.

Stuffing & Shaping Tips

  • Keep most head stuffing at lower cheeks to maintain the cute smile line and prevent pushing eyes up.
  • Ears are unstuffed: steam lightly so they fall straight without curling.
  • For crisp skirt pleats, steam from the wrong side and pinch each pleat column while cooling.
  • Sneakers: shape toes with fingers after Round 6; ensure tongue sits between quarters before lacing.

Quality-Control Checklist (Match the Photo)

  • Height 25–26 cm; head ≈ body height.
  • Eye line Rnds 13–14, 8 sts apart; small black nose on Rnd 16, tiny smile.
  • Ears hang to shoulder level; bases aligned with outer eye corners.
  • Hoodie: mint body, lilac sleeves & hood lining, lemon triangular chest panel; cuffs folded; hem hits waist.
  • Skirt: cream, 12 pleats, mid-thigh length.
  • Hat: mint bucket, shallow brim; two-stripe rainbow (peach over yellow) centered front.
  • Belt bag: blush, cross-body right → left; pouch rests at left hip/top of skirt.
  • Sneakers: white base with mint quarters/collar, peach laces + thin peach foxing stripe.

Care & Styling

  • Most pieces are cotton; steam-block lightly (no direct iron contact).
  • For photos, stage on a light wooden floor or sofa with soft daylight, and add pastel roller-skates as props in the background for the rink vibe.
