Introduction
Meet the Prep-School Puppy: a smartly dressed amigurumi dog in a navy varsity set—baseball cap, cardigan with cream scallop trim and a mustard “P” patch, matching shorts, lace-up sneakers with an orange side stripe, and a tiny bone-badge lunch satchel.
Please note: I strive for accuracy in every pattern, but occasional errors can happen. Thank you for understanding and for enjoying my designs.
Materials Needed
- Yarn (Worsted/Medium #4, non-fuzzy cotton/acrylic blend for stitch clarity)
- Cream (C): 60 g — muzzle, face, paws, ankle, shoe foxing & toe caps, trims, laces, button band, collar V
- Tan (T): 30 g — head/face base (light beige)
- Brown (B): 25 g — ears & nose (medium brown)
- Navy (N): 120 g — cap, cardigan, shorts, shoe uppers
- Mustard (M): small amount — “P” patch
- Orange (O): small amount — sneaker stripe
- Brick Orange (R): 15 g — satchel
- Hook: 3.25 mm (D/3) for amigurumi; 3.5 mm (E/4) optional for clothing if your sc is very tight.
- Safety eyes: 10 mm, Safety joints optional (not required).
- Notions: Polyester stuffing; yarn needle; 4 small cream buttons (6–8 mm); stitch markers; fabric glue (optional for patch & bone); a small piece of plastic canvas for each shoe sole (optional).
- Gauge (worked in spiral sc): 8 sc × 8 rnds ≈ 1 in (2.5 cm) when worked tightly with 3.25 mm hook. Consistent tension matters more than exact gauge.

Pattern Notes
- Work amigurumi in a spiral; do not join unless told.
- Stuff firmly as you go, especially head, shoes, and lower legs for stability.
- Use BLO occasionally to create fold lines (ankle cuff, shoe foxing, cardigan hems).
- Color plan exactly follows the photos: face cream, ears brown, cardigan & shorts navy, trims cream, patch mustard, satchel brick orange.
- Final placements (for reference): eyes on Head rnd 18, spaced 12 sts (≈3.5 cm) apart; muzzle centered between eyes with top touching eye line; arms attached to Body rnd 26; legs join to body via shorts at rnd 6 of shorts; “P” patch centered on left chest.

Joining Head & Body
Pin the Cream Collar Ring at the top of body. Ladder-stitch the head onto body through the ring’s inner edge so a cream V remains visible at front like an undershirt. Secure strongly.
Outfit
Varsity Cardigan (Navy with Cream edging & buttons)
Worked bottom-up in rows; fits snug over stuffed body.
Back Panel (N):

Right Front (N):
Same as Left Front.
Shoulders: Seam fronts to back at rows 19–20 using whip stitch over 6 sts each side, leaving neck opening.
Sleeves (worked in round onto armholes):
Join Navy at armhole; PM 28 sts evenly.
Rnd 1: sc around (28)
Rnd 2–16: sc around (28)
Rnd 17: (sc, picot, sc, sk 1) repeat every 6–7 sts to create scallop cream-look later—but we’ll surface with Cream actually: Fasten off Navy.
Cream edging: With Cream, surface-sl-st a scallop band around cuffs and around body hem: (sc, picot, sc, sk 1) repeating; keep it subtle (small picots ch2).
Button Band & V-Neck (Cream):
Join Cream to lower right front edge. Work sc evenly up right edge, around neck V, and down left edge, placing 3 sc at the V point to turn. Turn.
Row 2: (sc, picot, sc, sk 1) along entire band to form a delicate scallop.
Sew 4 small cream buttons to the left band (as worn), evenly spaced (neck to hem). Add corresponding button loops by leaving slightly larger gaps in the scallop on right band.
“P” Patch (Mustard, small applique)
With M, ch 7; Row 1: sc in 2nd ch and across (6). Row 2–3: ch1, turn, sc across (6).
Embroider the letter P on top using same yarn (or make an I-cord outline). Trim to a neat block. Stitch to left chest roughly 6 rows below shoulder seam.

Row 4: ch1, turn, sc across (14).

Mini Satchel with Bone Badge
Bag (Brick Orange R):
Row 1: Ch 12, sc in 2nd ch and across (11).
Rows 2–14: ch1, turn, sc across (11) to make a rectangle.

Rim: ch1, sc around opening (approx 22).
Handle: ch 22, attach to opposite side; sc back along chain for sturdiness; attach.
Bone Applique (Cream):
Ch 10. In 2nd ch from hook: sc, hdc, dc, dc, hdc, (sc, picot, sc) in next, hdc, dc, dc, hdc, sc. Tweak to a chubby bone; stitch to front center.
Place bag on left hand; tack handle to palm so it hangs naturally.
Assembly
Exact Placements (match photo)
- Head to Body: Center with cream collar showing as a V. Seam all around; add a tiny wedge of stuffing at back of neck for upright posture.
- Ears: Pin each ear so top edge aligns with eye line and the ear hangs forward. Front tip should sit about 2 sts behind eye. Sew along a 3–4 cm arc so the ear can flop.
- Arms: Attach at Body rnd 26 (just below cardigan armholes) slightly to front of side seam so cuffs face forward. Angle 10–15° down.
- Legs: Position legs hip-width apart; sew to bottom of body so shorts hem hits mid-thigh. Ensure both feet are flat and parallel.
- Clothing order: Put on shorts first, then cardigan, then shoes laces tied, then cap. Button cardigan using the cream scallop band as visual trim.
- Patch & Buttons: Confirm “P” sits left chest; four buttons equally spaced—top button about 1 cm below the V point.
- Satchel: Anchor handle to left hand with a couple of stitches to keep position like the photo.
Finishing Touches / Tips
- Sculpting: After stuffing, pinch a gentle cheek by pulling a thread from back of head to one cheek point, across the muzzle back to the other cheek, then back. Tighten slightly for a subtle smile contour.
- Surface Grid Texture (optional): For the cardigan and shorts “quilted” look, run vertical surface slip-stitch lines every 3–4 sts and horizontal lines every 3 rows in Navy; keep tension light.
- Edge Consistency: Use small picots (ch2) for all cream scallops so trim stays fine and not frilly.
- Stability: Plastic canvas inside shoes prevents wobble; a coin under the insole also helps balance.
- Child Safety: Replace buttons with embroidered knots for under-3s; sew laces down after tying.
- Blocking: Light steam on clothing only (never on stuffed parts) to settle the surface grid and brim curve.
Conclusion
Your Prep-School Puppy is ready for class—cap on, cardigan buttoned, and snack satchel in paw. The balanced head-to-body ratio, crisp cream trims, mustard letter patch, and two-tone sneakers with the orange stripe capture the exact look from the photo. If you make more than one, try alternate letters or team colors while keeping the trims cream for the same polished vibe. Happy crocheting!
