Fox Busker with Flat Cap & Ukulele – Free Crochet Pattern

Hình ảnh Ghim câu chuyện

Introduction

Make an irresistibly cute fox busker with a soft, small-stitch texture, neutral cool background vibe, and classic  street-performer styling. He wears a brown flat cap, a mustard sweater, teal trousers, brown shoes (not boots), a crossbody satchel, and carries a tiny ukulele. The body is worked in tight, even single crochet for a plush but flexible feel, with clean joins and tidy shaping for the cheeks and snout.

Please note: I strive for accuracy in every pattern, but occasional errors can happen. Thank you for understanding and for enjoying my designs.

Assembly

  1. Join Head & Body: center the head on the neck opening; ladder stitch closed while adding stuffing to maintain a firm neck.
  2. Ears: sew to head top so they angle slightly outward; if wired, insert small U-shaped wire before closing bases.
  3. Arms: attach at the sweater armholes or directly to body if making fixed clothing; angle slightly forward to hold the ukulele.
  4. Legs: align shoes forward; sew to body base with a slight outward splay so he stands steadily. Insert pellet pouch before final stitches if extra balance is needed.
  5. Tail: attach to back of trousers/body seam about 2–3 rnds above base; curve gently upward.
  6. Dress & Style: slide on trousers, sweater, then shoes. Put on flat cap. Add satchel diagonally (left shoulder to right hip). Secure ukulele across the torso with a couple of invisible tacks so it stays in playing pose.

Finishing Touches / Tips

  • Steam-block clothes only from a distance to relax stitches; avoid steaming the head to keep round cheeks.
  • For softer, “natural” surface, lightly brush the finished fox with a soft toothbrush to bloom the yarn without fuzzing.
  • If gifting to small children, replace safety eyes with embroidered ovals and secure the ukulele permanently or omit strings.

Troubleshooting

  • Fabric looks stiff or stitches look large: drop hook to 2.5 mm and keep a relaxed hand; aim for the gauge above.
  • Head too pointy: add 2 extra sc rounds between rnds 13–16 before the first decrease.
  • Cap rides high: add one increase round to 42 sts, then one extra plain round before making the brim.
  • Shoes slide: add a line of back-stitch through the ankle to anchor them to the leg.

Printable Quick Reference

  • Eyes: between rnds 13–14, 10 sts apart.
  • Muzzle: ch-6 oval (24 sts final), centered under eyes.
  • Legs/Shoes: 12-st leg; shoe shaped from 18 → 12 with BLO round at rnd 4.
  • Sweater: top-down, 41 sts after sleeve split, 18-st sleeves.
  • Trousers joined count: 42 around after join.
  • Height: ~21–22 cm.
