Meet the Constellation Witch Cat – a black Halloween cat with a tall purple witch hat, mustard scarf, long-sleeved purple dress sprinkled with golden constellations, and bright orange Mary Jane shoes. She holds a tiny broom and stands beside a small pumpkin, ready for a cozy spooky night.
Please note: I strive for accuracy in every pattern, but occasional errors can happen. Thank you for understanding and for enjoying my designs.

Materials
- Worsted weight yarn (category 4) in:
- Solid black (head, body, ears, arms, legs, tail, broom handle)
- Deep purple (dress and hat)
- Mustard or gold (scarf, hat band, broom straw)
- Bright orange (shoes, pumpkin)
- Light peach or beige (nose)
- Dark brown/black embroidery thread (mouth line if you prefer thinner than yarn)
- Optional: a little soft yellow for embroidered stars/constellations if you want contrast from scarf color
- Crochet hook 2.75–3.0 mm (or size for tight fabric)
- 8 mm black safety eyes (2 pcs)
- Polyester fiberfill stuffing
- Yarn needle for sewing and embroidery
- Stitch markers
- Thin black thread or fishing line for whiskers (optional)
Gauge & Finished Size
Gauge is not critical as long as stitching is tight so stuffing doesn’t show. As a rough guide:
- About 20 sc x 22 rows ≈ 4 in (10 cm) with 3.0 mm hook in sc.
With the yarn and hook above, the finished Constellation Witch Cat stands about 8–9 in (20–23 cm) tall without the hat, and taller with the hat.
Notes
- Stuff firmly but gently, adding small amounts at a time for smooth curves.
- All pieces are designed for this specific size; different yarn weight or hook may change proportions.
- The dress and hat are removable if you keep seams neat and don’t sew them to the body.
Construction Overview
- Crochet legs, join them, and work the body upwards.
- Make head, ears, arms, and tail, then attach to the body.
- Crochet the witch dress, hat, scarf, shoes, and two pumpkins (one held, one on the side) plus the broom.
- Embroider the constellations, face, and whiskers.
- Assemble everything and pose your witchy cat with pumpkin and broom.

Clothing & Accessories
Witch Dress
The dress is long, straight A-line, worked from neckline down in rounds.
Use purple yarn.
Neckline
Row 1: ch 28, sc in 2nd ch from hook and across (27)
Row 2: ch 1, turn, sc across (27)
Form a ring by bringing the short edges together and sl st to first st (be careful not to twist). This is the neckline.
Rnd 3: sc around (27)
Yoke & Body
Rnd 4: (8 sc, inc) x 3 (30)
Rnd 5: sc around (30)
Rnd 6: (4 sc, inc) x 6 (36)
Rnd 7: sc around (36)
Separate for armholes:
Rnd 8: sc in 5 sts, ch 3, skip 5 sts (first armhole), sc in next 16 sts, ch 3, skip 5 sts (second armhole), sc in last 5 sts (36 incl ch).
Rnd 9: sc in each sc and 3 sc in each ch-3 space (36)
Rnd 10: (5 sc, inc) x 6 (42)
Rnds 11–13: sc around (42)
Rnd 14: (6 sc, inc) x 6 (48)
Rnds 15–17: sc around (48)
Try dress on the cat to check length; it should fall just above the top of the shoes. You can add or remove plain rounds here.
Rnd 18 (hem): sc, ch 1, sc in same st, skip next st repeat around for a subtle flare. FO and weave ends.
Sleeve Edges
Attach purple yarn in one armhole at the underarm.
Rnd 1: sc around armhole, picking up about 14–16 sts evenly (exact count not critical).
Rnds 2–4: sc around.
FO and weave in. Repeat for second sleeve. Roll cuffs slightly outward like in the photo.
Witch Hat
Use purple for hat cone and brim, mustard for band.
Hat Cone
Rnd 1: MR, 4 sc (4)
Rnd 2: sc around (4)
Rnd 3: (sc, inc) x 2 (6)
Rnd 4: sc around (6)
Rnd 5: (2 sc, inc) x 2 (8)
Rnd 6: sc around (8)
Rnd 7: (3 sc, inc) x 2 (10)
Rnd 8: sc around (10)
Rnd 9: (4 sc, inc) x 2 (12)
Rnd 10: sc around (12)
Rnd 11: (5 sc, inc) x 2 (14)
Rnd 12: sc around (14)
Rnd 13: (6 sc, inc) x 2 (16)
Rnd 14: sc around (16)
Continue increasing every other round:
Rnd 15: (7 sc, inc) x 2 (18)
Rnd 16: sc around (18)
Rnd 17: (8 sc, inc) x 2 (20)
Rnd 18: sc around (20)
Stop and check fit. The cone should be tall and proportionate to the head.
Hat Brim
Rnd 19 (increase for brim): FLO, (sc, inc) around (30)
Rnd 20: (2 sc, inc) around (40)
Rnd 21: sc around (40)
FO and weave ends. Use a little stuffing in the lower part of the cone if you want it very crisp, but it usually stands fine without stuffing.
Hat Band
With mustard:
Row 1: ch 40, hdc in 2nd ch from hook and across (39). FO. Wrap band around base of cone where it meets brim, overlap slightly and sew ends together. Sew or tack band to hat so it stays in place.
Scarf
Use mustard yarn.
Row 1: ch 51, hdc in 2nd ch from hook and across (50)
Row 2: ch 1, turn, hdc across (50)
FO and weave in ends. Wrap around the cat’s neck with a small crossing knot in front, like a simple tie. You can loosely stitch the overlapping ends so it stays in shape.
Shoes (make 2)
Use orange yarn.
Rnd 1: MR, 6 sc (6)
Rnd 2: inc around (12)
Rnd 3: (sc, inc) x 6 (18)

Row 11: ch 1, turn, sc across 12.
Row 12: ch 1, turn, sc across 12.
FO and weave in.
Strap: Attach yarn at one side near instep, ch 8, sl st to other side, FO. Repeat for second shoe. Slip onto each leg; black toes should show inside the front cut-out just like the photo.
Tail Attachment
Sew tail to the back of the body, slightly above the legs. Curve it gently to one side.
Broom
Handle
With black yarn:
Row 1: ch 14, sc in 2nd ch from hook and across (13).
Roll into a tight tube and whipstitch long edges together to form a firm handle.
Straw
With mustard:
Rnd 1: MR, 8 sc (8)
Rnd 2: sc around (8)
Rnd 3: (sc, inc) x 4 (12)
Rnds 4–5: sc around (12)
Insert one end of handle into broom straw piece, stitch around base to secure. Cut several short strands of mustard yarn, fold in half, and loop them through the bottom round of the broom. Trim to even bristle length and lightly tug for fullness. Wrap a strand of mustard tightly around the top of the bristles and knot.
Place broom in one of the cat’s hands and tack with a stitch.
Small Pumpkin
Use orange.
Rnd 1: MR, 6 sc (6)
Rnd 2: inc around (12)
Rnd 3: (sc, inc) x 6 (18)
Rnds 4–6: sc around (18)
Rnd 7: (sc, dec) x 6 (12)
Rnd 8: dec around (6)
Stuff firmly before closing. FO leaving a long tail. Use that tail to create segments: bring needle from top center to bottom center, pull snug to form a groove, and repeat 5–6 times around the pumpkin.
For the stem, with mustard or brown: ch 4, sc in 2nd ch from hook and across (3), FO and sew to top center.
Make a second pumpkin smaller if you’d like one on each side of the cat.
Assembly & Finishing
- Join Head to Body
- Position head over body opening and sew with the long tail from the body. Add extra stuffing into neck while sewing so the head is stable and upright.
- Attach Ears
- Place ears on top of head, slightly forward and angled outward, like in the photo. Sew bases securely.
- Attach Arms
- Sew arms to the sides of body at shoulder level so that hands hang at the lower edge of the dress, one hand ready to hold the broom.
- Face Embroidery
- With peach yarn, embroider a small triangular nose centered between eyes.
- Using black or dark thread, stitch a short vertical line down from nose and a small curved mouth.
- For whiskers, stitch 2–3 short straight lines on each cheek with thin black thread or fishing line, anchoring securely inside the head.
- Dress & Accessories
- Put dress on from top, guiding arms through armholes and pulling dress down to cover the body to mid-shin.
- Slip shoes onto feet.
- Wrap scarf around neck and secure with a tiny stitch if desired.
- Place hat on head, tipping slightly to one side in a playful angle; stitch in place if the doll will be handled often.
- Give the cat her broom and arrange the pumpkin beside her feet.
- Constellation Embroidery
- With mustard or soft yellow yarn, embroider small cross-shaped stars and dotted lines across the front of the dress.
- Combine short lines of straight stitch into simple constellations – a few diagonal chains, crosses, and tiny single stitches scattered around, matching the photo’s pattern.
Your Constellation Witch Cat is now ready to join your Halloween decor, guarding the candy bowl with her tiny broom, pumpkins, and starry dress.
