Materials
- Sport or light DK weight yarn in the following colors:
- Cream (main body, shirt, latte foam)
- Light beige (muzzle, skirt, coffee mug)
- Medium brown (spots, hooves, hat, shoes, bag strap, cup sleeve, sign border)
- Dark brown (extra spots, coffee “liquid”, muzzle detail)
- Soft pink (cheeks, inner ears, flowers)
- Green (leaves on shirt embroidery)
- 2.25–2.5 mm crochet hook (or size needed for tight stitches)
- Safety eyes 8–10 mm (black)
- Fiberfill stuffing
- Yarn needle for sewing
- Stitch markers, pins, scissors
- Small piece of cardboard or plastic for the sign (optional, for sturdiness)
Gauge & Finished Size
- Approximate gauge: about 8–9 sc = 1″ (2.5 cm) in the round.
- With the yarn and hook above, your cow should stand around 9–10 inches (23–26 cm) tall, including the hat.
Exact gauge is not critical, but stitches must be tight so stuffing does not show.
Construction Overview
The cow is made in separate pieces: head, muzzle, ears, body, arms, legs with shoes, tail, and small applique spots. The body and shirt share one base color (cream) and are shaped so the top looks like a sweater with cuffs and collar. Clothes and accessories are fully crocheted: spotty skirt, cowgirl hat, latte crossbody bag, takeaway cup, and the little OPEN sign.
Assembly happens after all pieces are crocheted and stuffed. Facial embroidery, blush, and tiny flower details are added last.
Head
Use cream yarn.

Rnd 4–6: sc around (8)
Do not stuff. Flatten the ear and pinch the base. FO leaving a tail for sewing.
Using pink yarn, surface stitch on the inner half of each ear to mimic a soft inner ear triangle.
Sew ears slightly to the sides of the head, just under the hat line (around Rnd 4–5 from the top), angled a little downward like in the photo.
Small Face Spots
With medium or dark brown yarn, make 2–3 flat circles:
Rnd 1: MR, 6 sc (6) – small spot
Rnd 1: MR, 8 sc (8) – larger spot
FO, leaving tails. Sew one larger spot around/under one eye and a smaller spot on the opposite side of the forehead or cheek, matching the look in the image.

FO, leaving a long tail for sewing to the head.
Arms (make 2)
Start with medium brown for hands.
Rnd 1: MR, 6 sc (6)
Rnd 2: (2 sc, inc) x 2 (8)

Switch to cream for sleeves.
Rnd 5: BLO, sc around (8)
Rnd 6–11: sc around (8)
Slightly stuff the bottom half only (hand and a bit of sleeve; leave upper arm flexible).
Flatten the top and sc through both layers across to close (4–5 sts). FO leaving tail for sewing.
At Rnd 11 of the body (shirt section), sew arms on each side so the hooves point slightly inward.
Legs & Shoes (make 2)
Shoes and hooves are one piece.
With medium brown:

Rnd 6: BLO, sc around (15)
Rnd 7–14: sc around (15)
Stuff firmly; shape into a cylinder.
Flatten the top and sc through both layers to close, leaving a tail.
Make a second leg.
Sew legs to the bottom of the body so the cow stands straight, leaving a small gap between.
Tail
With cream:
Rnd 1: MR, 4 sc (4)
Rnd 2–6: sc around (4)
Switch to medium brown:
Rnd 7: (1 sc, inc) x 2 (6)
Rnd 8: sc around (6)
Lightly stuff if desired. FO and sew to the lower back, centered.
Joining Head and Body
Pin the head to the body, making sure the face points forward and the body is straight. Sew around carefully with the long tail from the body. Add more stuffing at the join if you need to firm up the neck.
Shirt Collar & Flower Embroidery
At the neckline, use cream yarn.
Join yarn at the front center, working in the unused front loops of the last round of the head or first of the body (where they meet) and crochet:
Row 1: ch 1, (sc, hdc, dc, hdc, sc) across about 6–7 sts to shape a rounded collar. FO and repeat on the other side if you want a full collar effect.
With green yarn, embroider two short stems and leaves on the chest. Add small pink French knots or tiny straight stitches at the top of each stem to mimic two little flowers on each side.
Spotty Skirt
Use light beige yarn.
The skirt is attached to the BLO ridge from Body Rnd 14.
Join yarn in any back loop.
Rnd 1: FLO of Rnd 14, sc around (36)
Rnd 2: (2 sc, inc) x 12 (48)
Rnd 3: (3 sc, inc) x 12 (60)
Rnd 4–6: sc around (60)
Optional slight flare:
Rnd 7: (4 sc, inc) x 12 (72)
Rnd 8: sc around (72)
FO and weave in ends.
Spots: with medium brown, create random small shapes on the skirt:
- Using surface crochet, work small rounded patches (4–6 sc wide) scattered around.
- Alternatively, crochet little circles (MR 6–8 sc) and sew them onto the skirt.
Cowgirl Hat
Use medium brown.
Crown:
Rnd 1: MR, 6 sc (6)
Rnd 2: inc around (12)
Rnd 3: (1 sc, inc) x 6 (18)
Rnd 4: (2 sc, inc) x 6 (24)
Rnd 5–7: sc around (24)
Brim:
Rnd 8: FLO, (3 sc, inc) x 6 (30)
Rnd 9: (4 sc, inc) x 6 (36)
Rnd 10: sc around (36)
FO and weave in ends. Shape the brim slightly up on the sides by bending it with your fingers. Place the hat on top of the head so the ears peek out from underneath; you can secure with a few stitches if you don’t want it removable.
Latte Crossbody Bag
Cup body (light beige):
Rnd 1: MR, 6 sc (6)
Rnd 2: inc around (12)
Rnd 3: (1 sc, inc) x 6 (18)
Rnd 4–5: sc around (18)
Switch to medium brown for sleeve:
Rnd 6–7: BLO, sc around (18)
Switch back to light beige:
Rnd 8–9: sc around (18)
FO, leaving tail. Stuff lightly.
Foam top (cream):
Rnd 1: MR, 6 sc (6)
Rnd 2: (1 sc, inc) x 3 (9)
Rnd 3: sc around (9)
FO and sew to the top of the cup so it sits slightly raised like latte foam. With dark brown, embroider a small swirl or heart shape.
Strap:
With medium brown: ch enough to go from one shoulder across the body to the opposite hip (around 55–65 ch, depending on your doll). Sl st back along the chain. FO.
Sew both strap ends to opposite sides of the cup so it sits at the front hip, just like a crossbody bag.
Takeaway Coffee Cup
Body (light beige):
Rnd 1: MR, 6 sc (6)
Rnd 2: inc around (12)
Rnd 3: (1 sc, inc) x 6 (18)
Rnd 4–5: sc around (18)
Sleeve (medium brown):
Rnd 6: BLO, sc around (18)
Rnd 7: sc around (18)
Lid (cream):
Rnd 1: Join in FLO of Rnd 6, (1 sc, inc) x 9 (27)
Rnd 2: sl st around to smooth the edge, FO.
Stuff the cup and shape it slightly tapered. Optionally embroider a line indicating the lid rim. Place in one hand and sew in place so the cow appears to be holding it upright.
“OPEN” Sign
Base rectangle:
With light beige or cream:
Row 1: ch 11, sc in 2nd ch from hook and across (10)
Row 2–4: ch 1, turn, sc across (10)
FO.
Border:
With medium brown, work sc evenly around the rectangle, placing 3 sc in each corner to keep it flat. FO.
Letters:
With dark brown yarn, embroider the word OPEN in simple block letters, centered.
Handle:
With medium brown, ch 12–14, FO. Attach each end to the top corners of the sign. Sew the loop to one hand so the sign dangles slightly in front of the cow.
If you want extra stiffness, hide a small piece of cardboard inside the rectangle before closing the border.
Tailoring the Face
- Add soft pink blush on both cheeks: either tiny circles crocheted (MR 5–6 sc) or lightly brushed blush with fabric-safe pastel.
- With black or dark brown, embroider a short curved eyebrow above each eye.
- Adjust eye placement and muzzle position so the expression feels gentle and friendly.
Final Assembly
- Make sure all pieces are securely attached: legs and arms firmly sewn, head fixed straight, tail centered.
- Arrange the skirt so it hangs evenly all around the body.
- Position the crossbody latte bag, coffee cup, and OPEN sign so they are clearly visible from the front.
- Place the cowgirl hat slightly tilted back for a playful look, then stitch it to the head if desired.
Weave in all remaining yarn ends, reshape the doll with your hands, and fluff the stuffing where needed.
Finishing & Customization
- Change skirt color for seasonal versions: pastel pink for spring, mustard for autumn, or icy blue for winter.
- Swap the latte bag color to create different “flavors” (taro, matcha, strawberry).
- You can embroider different small motifs on the shirt (hearts, stars, tiny coffee beans) while keeping the same base pattern.
