Materials
- Yarn: DK or light worsted weight, non-fuzzy for clear stitches
- Sheep body & head: warm cream
- Inner ears (optional shade): very light peach or same cream
- Ballet top & tote bag: soft mint
- Tutu skirt & slippers: peachy pink
- Flower crown: yellow for band, pastel pink / lavender / mint for flowers
- Flower centers: pale yellow
- Facial embroidery: black or dark brown
- Crochet hook: 2.25–2.75 mm (use a size that gives tight fabric)
- Safety eyes: 10–12 mm black
- Polyester fiberfill stuffing
- Yarn needle for sewing
- Stitch markers and scissors
- Optional: blush or pastel for cheeks
Finished height sitting with headband: about 18–20 cm (7–8″), depending on yarn and hook.
Gauge & Notes
Gauge is not critical, but stitches must be tight so stuffing does not show.
Approximate gauge: 6 sc × 7 rows ≈ 1″ (2.5 cm) in body yarn and chosen hook.
Stuff as you go and shape each piece with your hands before sewing. The sheep is designed to sit nicely, with legs hanging straight and arms relaxed slightly forward.
Construction Overview
- You will crochet head, ears, body, arms, legs, and tail separately, then sew them together.
- The mint ballet top is worked directly on the body as a removable top, or can be sewn on if you prefer.
- The ruffle tutu, ballet slippers with ribbons, flower crown headband, and mini tote bag are made as separate accessories.
- Assembly order: complete the sheep, then dress her in tutu and slippers, add headband and tote bag last.

Assembling the Sheep
- Pin the head to the body, checking that she looks straight and balanced. Sew all the way around using the body tail.
- Attach legs to the lower sides of the body so she can sit with legs pointing forward. You can angle them slightly outward for a natural ballerina pose.
- Sew arms just under the head, on the sides of the body, pointing slightly forward.
- Attach the little tail at the back near the bottom.
- Sew ears to the sides of the head, about 2 rounds above the eye line, tilting slightly down so they frame the face.
Set your sheep aside and move on to clothing and accessories.
Mint Ballet Top
The top is worked from the neckline down in joined rounds. Use mint yarn.
Neck opening:
Row 1: ch 28, join with sl st to form a ring (take care not to twist), 28 ch total.
Rnd 1: ch 1, sc in each ch around, sl st to first sc (28).
Rnd 2: ch 1, (3 sc, inc) around (35), join.
Rnd 3: ch 1, sc around (35), join.
Armholes:
Rnd 4: ch 1, sc in next 6 sts, ch 4, skip 6 sts (first armhole),
sc in next 13 sts, ch 4, skip 6 sts (second armhole), sc in last 6 sts, join (35 sts around including chains).
Rnd 5: ch 1, sc around working into both stitches and chains (35), join.
Rnd 6: ch 1, (4 sc, inc) around (42), join.
Rnds 7–9: ch 1, sc around (42), join.
FO and weave in ends.
Slip the top over the sheep from feet upwards and settle it around the neck. If it feels a bit loose at the back, use a few stitches to slightly tighten.
Peach-Pink Ruffle Tutu
Use peachy pink yarn. The tutu is worked from waist downward.
Waistband:
Row 1: ch 32, sc in 2nd ch from hook and across (31).
Join ends with sl st to form a band (31 sts). Rotate to work around long edge.
Rnd 1: ch 1, sc 31 around the edge, sl st to first sc (31).
Ruffle:
Rnd 2: ch 2 (counts as hdc), hdc inc in each st around (62), join.
Rnd 3: ch 2, hdc in next st, hdc inc in next st around (93), join.
Rnd 4: ch 1, sc in next st, ch 1 around to create wavy edging, join.
FO and weave in ends.
Pull the tutu up onto the sheep so that the waistband sits just under the mint top, overlapping slightly.
Ballet Slippers with Ribbons
Make 2, using the same peachy pink yarn as the tutu.
Rnd 1: MR, 6 sc (6)
Rnd 2: (1 sc, inc) around (9)
Rnd 3: (2 sc, inc) around (12)
Rnd 4: BLO, sc around (12)
Rnds 5–6: sc around (12)
Rnd 7: (2 sc, dec) around (9)
FO, leaving a tail. Lightly stuff only the toe if needed; the slipper should be snug around the leg.
Slip each slipper on a leg and sew around the ankle to hold in place.
For ribbons:
With a long length of pink yarn, sew through the sides of the slipper at ankle height, bring the yarn around the leg twice in a crisscross and tie in a neat bow toward the front, as seen in the photo. Secure bow with a tiny stitch so it doesn’t come undone.
Flower Crown Headband
Band (yellow):
Row 1: ch 40 (or enough to go around the head comfortably), sc in 2nd ch from hook and across (39).
FO, leaving long tails for tying or sewing closed at the back of the head.
Tiny flowers (make 3 in different pastel colors):
For each flower:
Rnd 1: MR, 5 sc, join with sl st (5).
Rnd 2: (ch 2, dc, ch 2, sl st) in same st repeat in each st around to make 5 petals. FO, leaving small tail.
Sew the flowers side by side on the center front of the yellow band. Add a tiny yellow French knot or a small stitch in the center of each flower.
Place the band around the sheep’s head just above the eyes and secure the ends at the back with a few stitches.

Mini Tote Bag
Use mint yarn for the bag and pink/yellow for the flower.
Bag body:
Row 1: ch 9, sc in 2nd ch from hook and across (8).
Rows 2–8: ch 1, turn, sc across (8).
FO first panel. Make a second identical panel.
Hold panels together.
Rnd 1 (join): ch 1, sc around three sides, joining both layers (work 8 sts across bottom, 6 sts up each side), leaving top open. FO.
Handles (make 2):
Row 1: ch 10, sc in 2nd ch from hook and across (9). FO.
Sew ends of each handle to inside top edges of the bag, forming two small arches.
Front flower:
Rnd 1: MR, 5 sc, join (5).
Rnd 2: (ch 2, dc, ch 2, sl st) in same st around for 5 petals. FO.
Sew flower to front center of bag and add a yellow knot in the middle.
The bag is sized to sit next to the sheep or be slipped onto one of her hands.
Final Assembly & Styling
- Put the mint ballet top on first, smoothing it over the upper body.
- Slide the peachy pink tutu up over the legs and position the waistband under the top.
- Add the ballet slippers and wrap the yarn ribbons neatly around the legs, securing bows.
- Place the flower crown headband on the head, centered with flowers at the front.
- Pose your Ballerina Sheep sitting on a flat surface, with legs straight and slightly apart, arms relaxed, and the small tote bag placed beside her or looped around her hand.
Pattern Recap
- The Ballerina Sheep uses a classic amigurumi shape: large round head, soft cylindrical body, simple limbs, and a tiny tail.
- Her outfit includes a fitted mint ballet top, fluffy peach-pink tutu, ribboned ballet slippers, and a pastel flower crown headband.
- A small mint tote bag with a flower patch completes the soft, airy pastel look and makes the scene extra photogenic.
