Travel Blogger Turtle – Free Crochet Pattern

Travel Blogger Turtle is an amigurumi turtle ready for adventures, wearing a cream top, teal pleated skirt, dusty pink bomber jacket, white high-top sneakers, and a lilac bucket hat. She carries a pastel backpack with patches, a tiny camera, a travel journal, and a little travel mug for cozy photos.

  • MR – magic ring
  • ch – chain
  • st(s) – stitch(es)
  • sl st – slip stitch
  • sc – single crochet
  • hdc – half double crochet
  • dc – double crochet
  • inc – increase (2 sc in same st)
  • dec – invisible decrease (sc2tog through front loops only)
  • BLO – back loop only
  • FLO – front loop only
  • FO – fasten off

Work in continuous rounds unless otherwise noted. Use a stitch marker for the first stitch of each round.


Materials

  • DK / light worsted yarn (smooth, with good stitch definition)
    1. Turtle skin: light mint / light green
    2. Shell: slightly darker teal-green
    3. Shirt: cream
    4. Skirt: teal
    5. Jacket & backpack: dusty pink
    6. Backpack straps & details: warm brown
    7. Hat: lilac / light purple
    8. Camera body: dark gray + light gray + brown for strap
    9. Shoes: cream + teal stripe
    10. Mug: lilac + small green/peach patches
    11. Travel journals: beige/cream + dark brown for lettering
  • Crochet hook: 2.5–3.0 mm (or size to get tight fabric)
  • Safety eyes: 10–12 mm black
  • Polyester fiberfill stuffing
  • Tapestry needle, stitch markers, scissors
  • Optional: blush or soft pink pastel for cheeks

Finished height with hat: about 20–22 cm (8–8.5″), depending on yarn and tension.


Gauge & General Notes

Gauge is not critical as long as fabric is firm. As a guide, 6 sc × 7 rows ≈ 1″ (2.5 cm) with turtle skin yarn and chosen hook.

Stuff pieces firmly but evenly, especially the head and feet, so the turtle stands well and the face stays round.


Construction Overview

  • Turtle base: head, body, shell, arms, legs, and tail are crocheted separately and sewn together.
  • Clothes: cream shirt (built into body top), teal pleated skirt, dusty pink bomber jacket, lilac bucket hat, and cream sneakers.
  • Accessories: camera with strap, travel backpack with patches and ticket, two travel journals, and a small mug.
  • The clothes and accessories are designed to be removable for styling.

Turtle Base

Head (mint)

Rnd 1: MR, 6 sc (6)

Insert safety eyes between Rnds 11–12, spaced about 7 sts apart. With dark yarn, embroider two little nostrils between and slightly below the eyes.

Begin stuffing and keep adding stuffing as you close.

Start with cream for the shirt area.

Stuff firmly. FO, leaving a long tail for sewing the head on later.

The BLO round at Rnd 10 creates a ledge where the skirt will sit neatly.


Turtle Shell (teal-green)

Rnd 1: MR, 6 sc (6)
Rnd 2: inc around (12)
Rnd 3: (1 sc, inc) around (18)
Rnd 4: (2 sc, inc) around (24)
Rnd 5: (3 sc, inc) around (30)
Rnd 6: (4 sc, inc) around (36)

Rnds 7–9: sc around (36)

Lightly stuff the shell, keeping it slightly flattened.

Rnd 12: (2 sc, dec) around (18)

FO, leaving a long tail. Sew the shell centered on the turtle’s back, matching the lower body mint section. Keep top slightly domed.


Legs (make 2 – mint)

Rnd 1: MR, 6 sc (6)

Rnds 4–6: sc around (18)

Rnd 7: (4 sc, dec) around (15)
Rnds 8–10: sc around (15)

Stuff firmly, especially the foot.

Rnd 11: (3 sc, dec) around (12)
Rnds 12–13: sc around (12)

FO with long tail. Top of leg should be flat enough to sew to bottom body.


Arms (make 2 – mint)

Rnd 1: MR, 6 sc (6)
Rnd 2: (1 sc, inc) around (9)
Rnds 3–5: sc around (9)

Rnd 6: (2 sc, dec) twice, 1 sc (7)
Rnds 7–11: sc around (7)

Lightly stuff only the hand and lower arm. FO with tail for sewing.


Tail (mint)

Rnd 1: MR, 4 sc (4)
Rnds 2–4: sc around (4)
FO, stuff lightly and leave tail for sewing. Attach centered at the lower back, just under the shell.


Assembly of Base

  1. Sew the head onto the top of the body, keeping the face straight.
  2. Attach legs evenly at the base of the body so the turtle stands flat, with feet slightly apart.
  3. Sew arms to the sides of the body just under the cream shirt section, angling slightly forward so they can hold the camera and journal.
  4. Sew tail in place. Adjust stuffing if needed to help the turtle balance.

Set the finished turtle aside.


Teal Pleated Skirt

Use teal yarn. The skirt is worked in joined rounds from the waistband downward.

Waistband:
Row 1: Ch 31, sc in 2nd ch from hook and across (30).
Join short ends with sl st to form a loop (30). Rotate to work around long edge.

Rnd 1: ch 1, sc 30 around, sl st to join (30).

Pleats:

Rnd 2: ch 2 (counts as first hdc), hdc in same st, hdc inc in each st around (60), sl st to join.

Rnd 3: ch 2, hdc in each st around (60), join.

Rnd 4: ch 2, hdc in next 2 sts, hdc inc in next st around (80), join.

Rnds 5–7: ch 2, hdc in each st around (80), join.

FO and weave ends. Pull waistband over turtle from feet up, sitting exactly in the BLO ridge of the body so the cream top shows above.


Dusty Pink Bomber Jacket

Use dusty pink for main color, cream for collar and ribbing if desired. Worked top-down.

Yoke

Row 1: Ch 37, sc in 2nd ch from hook and across (36).
Row 2: ch 1, turn, (4 sc, inc) repeat across (43).
Row 3: ch 1, turn, sc across (43).

Row 4 (form arm openings):

  • sc 7, ch 5, skip 9, sc 11, ch 5, skip 9, sc 7.
    (You will have 35 sts for body when worked in the round.)

Join with sl st to first st to continue in rounds.

Body

Rnd 5: sc around (35)
Rnd 6: (6 sc, inc) 5 times (40)
Rnds 7–10: sc around (40)

Ribbing:
Rnd 11: FLO, (sc, ch 1) around (40).
FO and weave in.

Front opening remains unjoined (no buttons), so the jacket hangs open like in the photo.

Sleeves (make 2)

Join dusty pink yarn at underarm.

Rnd 1: Work 16 sc evenly around armhole (16)
Rnds 2–5: sc around (16)
Rnd 6: (2 sc, dec) four times (12)

Ribbing at cuffs:
Rnd 7: FLO, (sc, ch 1) around (12).

FO, weave ends.
Place jacket on turtle: it should sit cropped at the waist, showing the skirt.


Lilac Bucket Hat with Camera Patch

Use lilac for hat, gray for camera patch.

Rnd 1: MR, 6 sc (6)
Rnd 2: inc around (12)
Rnd 3: (1 sc, inc) around (18)
Rnd 4: (2 sc, inc) around (24)
Rnd 5: (3 sc, inc) around (30)
Rnd 6: (4 sc, inc) around (36)

Rnds 7–10: sc around (36) – sides of hat.

Brim:
Rnd 11: (1 sc, inc) around (54)

FO and weave in.

Camera patch:
With light gray, ch 5, sc in 2nd ch from hook and across (4).
Row 2: ch 1, turn, sc across (4). FO.
With dark gray, embroider a small circle in the center for the lens. Sew patch to front of hat, slightly above brim.

Place the hat on the turtle so it sits low near the eyes.


Cream High-Top Sneakers

Make 2.

Sole & Body

With cream:
Rnd 1: MR, 6 sc (6)
Rnd 2: inc around (12)
Rnd 3: (1 sc, inc) around (18)

Rnd 4: BLO, sc around (18)
Rnds 5–6: sc around (18)

Rnd 7: sc 6, dec 3, sc 6 (15)
Rnd 8: sc around (15)

Add a little stuffing in front if desired.

Rnd 9: (3 sc, dec) around (12)
Rnd 10: sc around (12)

FO, leaving tail.

Teal stripe:
With teal, join at BLO edge of Rnd 4 and sc around once to form the stripe. FO.

Using cream, embroider a faux lace pattern on the front. Slip each shoe onto a leg and secure around the ankle with a few stitches.


Travel Backpack

Use dusty pink for body, brown for straps, small amounts of teal/yellow for patches.

Backpack Body

Row 1: Ch 13, sc in 2nd ch from hook and across (12).
Rows 2–12: ch 1, turn, sc across (12).

Fold rectangle in half so it is 6 sts wide and 12 rows tall. Sc along sides and bottom to make a pocket, leaving top open.

Flap

Attach dusty pink at back top edge.
Row 1: ch 1, 8 sc across top (8).
Row 2: ch 1, turn, sc across (8).
Row 3: ch 1, turn, sc dec, 4 sc, sc dec (6).
Row 4: ch 1, turn, sc across (6).

FO. Add a small button stitch or French knot to act as closure point in front.

Side Pocket & Patches

Side pocket (make 1):
Row 1: ch 5, sc in 2nd ch and across (4).
Rows 2–3: ch 1, turn, sc across (4). FO, sew to backpack side.

On the front, embroider a tiny rainbow (teal/yellow) and a cloud/raindrop patch.

Straps & Handle

Straps (make 2, brown):
Row 1: ch 18, sc in 2nd ch from hook and across (17). FO.

Sew each strap from top to lower back corners to fit over turtle’s shoulders.

Handle: ch 7, sc back, FO and sew at top.

Cut a tiny rectangle of white yarn or felt and insert partly into top opening to mimic a ticket or boarding pass.

Place backpack on turtle’s back, under the jacket but with straps visible over shoulders.

Camera with Strap

Camera body (dark gray):
Row 1: ch 7, sc in 2nd ch from hook and across (6).
Rows 2–4: ch 1, turn, sc across (6).

FO.

Lens (light gray):
MR, 6 sc, join, FO. Sew to center front of body.

Top details: embroider a tiny shutter button and line.

Strap (brown): ch 40–45 (long enough to cross body). FO. Sew strap ends to camera sides.

Position the camera in one hand; tack strap to opposite shoulder so it hangs naturally.


Travel Journals

Travel notebook in hand (beige):
Row 1: ch 7, sc in 2nd ch and across (6).
Rows 2–4: ch 1, turn, sc across (6). FO. Fold in half like a book.
Embroider “TRAVEL” along front cover in dark brown.

Extra “BRAVEL” notebook on table (cream):
Make same as above but slightly smaller (ch 6, 5 sts wide). Embroider “BRAVEL” on cover.


Travel Mug

Use lilac.

Rnd 1: MR, 6 sc (6)
Rnd 2: (1 sc, inc) around (9)
Rnd 3: BLO, sc around (9)
Rnds 4–5: sc around (9)

Rnd 6: FLO, (sc, hdc) in each st to create a soft rim (18 sts worked).

FO. With cream or brown yarn, fill the inside with a couple of stitches to look like a warm drink.

Handle: with lilac, ch 6, sl st back along chain. FO and sew to side.
Embroider a tiny green leaf and small peach dot on the front as patches.


Final Assembly & Styling

  1. Dress the turtle in the teal skirt, pulling it up to the BLO ridge on the body.
  2. Put on the bomber jacket and arrange it so the front is open and the cream shirt is visible.
  3. Place the sneakers on the feet and secure with a stitch if needed.
  4. Slide the backpack straps over the shoulders and rest the pack against the shell.
  5. Put the bucket hat on the head, gently shaping the brim downward.
  6. Place the camera strap across the turtle’s body, with the camera in one hand.
  7. Place the travel journal in the other hand by tacking it with a few stitches.
  8. Set the extra notebook and mug next to the turtle when photographing.
