Please note: I strive for accuracy in every pattern, but occasional errors can happen. Thank you for understanding and for enjoying my designs.

Abbreviations (US Terms)

  • MR – magic ring
  • ch – chain
  • st(s) – stitch(es)
  • sl st – slip stitch
  • sc – single crochet
  • hdc – half double crochet
  • dc – double crochet
  • inc – increase (2 sc in same st)
  • dec – invisible decrease (sc 2 sts together through front loops only)

Materials

  • Sport or light DK weight yarn in:
    1. Beige/tan (main bear)
    2. Light cream (muzzle, shoe base – optional)
    3. Pastel blue (dress and beret)
    4. Light gray (cardigan)
    5. White (clouds, shoes, teacup, book pages)
    6. Yellow (shoe stars)
    7. Brown (book bag and book covers)
    8. Pastel pink and mint (extra tiny books)
    9. Dark brown or black embroidery thread (eyes, nose, mouth, “BOOK” letters)
  • Crochet hook 2.5–2.75 mm (or size for tight stitches)
  • 8 mm safety eyes (pair)
  • Polyester fiberfill stuffing
  • Tapestry needle and pins for assembly
  • Stitch markers
  • Optional: small piece of pipe cleaner or wire for bag handle if you like it very structured (keep it fully enclosed in yarn)

Finished bear stands about 22–24 cm (8.5–9.5 in) tall with these materials.

Gauge & Notes

Gauge is not critical as long as your stitches are firm and stuffing does not show. With sport yarn and 2.5 mm hook, about 5–5.5 sc per 1 inch is a good reference.

The bear is made from separate pieces that are sewn together:

  • Legs joined into the body
  • Head, ears, arms, and tail attached
  • Clothes and accessories made separately and removable

Construction Overview

  1. Crochet legs, join them, and continue upward to form the body.
  2. Crochet the head, muzzle, ears, arms, and tail.
  3. Stuff and sew everything together.
  4. Make the sky-blue dress with cloud appliqués.
  5. Add the cozy gray cardigan and the matching cloud beret.
  6. Crochet white star shoes, “BOOK” handbag, mini books, and the teacup.
