Back slit & Neck finish: With C, open a 6-st slit at center back by snipping 1 st (secure ends) or simply not joining R1; border the slit and neckline with sc, making a ch-8 loop near the top; add a small navy button on the opposite side.
Optional petticoat look: work a thin B row of sc just above the scallops.

ASSEMBLY

  1. Head & Ears
Pin ears first: base sits about 3 rounds down from crown, angled so ear tops point slightly outward. Sew securely. Attach head to body—center and ladder-stitch around the neck opening, adding a touch more stuffing to keep the neck firm.
  2. Arms
Position arms level with the lower third of the head, angled slightly forward. Sew through the flattened top rounds for natural swing.
  3. Legs
Pin legs under the body with a small gap between them; check balance so the mouse stands when supported. Stitch around securely. Close the remaining body opening if still unclosed.
  4. Dress
Slide the dress on from feet up. Close the neck loop at the back. Lightly steam the scalloped hem downward.
  5. Cardigan
Put the cardigan on over the dress, align the fronts, and button.
  6. Cap
Seat the cap low on the forehead, brim just above the eyes. Add a hidden tack stitch if you want it fixed.
  7. Accessories
Drape the satchel crossbody so the bag rests at the left hip. Slip a few envelopes inside, and stitch one to the right paw so the mouse “holds” the mail.

FINISHING & CUSTOMIZATION

  • Whiskers: With G, stitch two fine whisker lines per cheek angled slightly downward.
  • Gingham tips: Keep floats short (no more than 3 sts). If checks tighten the fabric, size up one hook for the skirt only.
  • Cardigan shape: Steam-block lightly to square edges and ensure the cropped hem hits at dress waist.
  • Shoes: Add a tiny dab of fabric glue under the strap ends if gifting to children.
  • Color variations: Navy/cream checks are classic; mint/cream with coral cardigan also looks charming, but keep the satchel red for the postal vibe.
  • Child-safe version: Replace safety eyes with embroidered eyes; secure the cap and satchel; omit buttons.

Quick Recap

  • Crochet gray head, embroider nose/mouth, add 10 mm eyes.
  • Make layered ears (cream inside, gray rim) and sew outward-tilted.
  • Work tapered body; attach slim arms and short legs with red Mary Janes and navy “buttons.”
  • Dress: top-down yoke, tapestry 2×2 gingham skirt, scalloped navy hem, back neck loop.
  • Cardigan: cropped red, simple sleeves, two front buttons.
  • Cap: navy postal cap with short brim and letter patch.
  • Accessories: red “POST” satchel with strap, tiny envelopes to hold.
  • Assemble, steam to shape, and pose on a wooden table for the cozy mail-day aesthetic.

Your “Mouse Postal Express” is ready for deliveries—letters stamped, satchel packed, and the sweetest smile. Enjoy stitching every tiny detail!
