Welcome to the quirkest, most fascinating garden on wheels! The “Venus Flytrap” Conservatory is not your average flower shop. Designed for the collector of the unusual, this Lime Green caravan is dedicated to carnivorous plants. The exterior features a bold, spotted design topped with creeping, thorny vines. Inside, it’s a “Little Shop of Horrors” in miniature (but much cuter!), packed with hungry Venus Flytraps, hanging Pitcher Plants, and bags of peat moss. Outside, a nervous little frog sits on a stool, keeping a safe distance from the biting flora.
This project is a delightfully detailed challenge. To capture the specific shape of the caravan and ensure the walls can support the heavy vine roof and interior shelving, we strictly use the “3-Layer Sandwich Method” (Yarn – Plastic Canvas – Yarn). We will be switching between a standard hook for the structure and a micro-hook for the tiny plant teeth and insects.
Please note: I strive for accuracy in every pattern, but occasional errors can happen. Thank you for understanding and for enjoying my designs.

Part 1: The Conservatory Structure (Sandwich Method)
Use Hook Size: 2.5mm
1. The Floor Base
Make 2 identical panels using Brown yarn.
- Row 1: Ch 26. Sc in 2nd ch from hook and across. (25)
- Row 2-40: Sc across. (Aim for a rectangle approx 4″ x 6.5″).
- Fasten off Panel 1. Keep yarn attached to Panel 2.
Assembly: Cut plastic canvas to size. Sandwich between the two panels. Sc around the perimeter through both layers to seal.
2. The Spotted Shell (U-Shaped)
This forms the walls and roof. We will crochet the spots as separate appliques to keep the wall tension even.
Panel A: Exterior (Lime Green)
- Row 1: Ch 91 (Length to cover Left Side + Roof + Right Side). Sc across. (90)
- Row 2-35: Sc across.
- Window Cutouts: On the side wall sections, create window openings. To match the “toothed” theme, Ch 10 and Sk 10 for the hole, but when framing later, we will add jagged edges.
- Fasten off.
Panel B: Interior (Lime Green or Beige)
- Repeat Panel A dimensions and window placement.
The Purple Spots:
- With Reddish-Purple yarn, make 8-10 circles of various sizes.
Large: MR 6, Inc to 12, (1, Inc) to 18.
Small: MR 6, Inc to 12.
- Sew these randomly onto Panel A (Exterior) before assembly.
Assembly:
- Cut plastic canvas strip (with window holes).
- Sandwich canvas between Panel A and Panel B.
- Join: Sc around the perimeter through both layers using Lime Green.
- Window Detail: Sc around the window frames. Add small Picot stitches (Ch 2, sl st) every 2 stitches along the top rim of the window to simulate “teeth.”
- Shape: Bend into a U-shape arch. Sew the bottom edges to the Floor Base.
3. The Thorny Roof Vines
Use Dark Green and 2.5mm hook.
- Main Vine: Ch 50 (or length of roof). *Sc, Hdc, Ch 3 (Picot for thorn), Hdc, Sc, Sl st* repeat down the chain to make a bumpy, thorny vine. Make 3-4 strands.
- Assembly: Arrange these vines snaking across the roof of the caravan. Glue or sew in place.

Part 2: The Carnivorous Collection (Interior)

- The Trap (Head):
Part 1 (Inside): Red yarn. MR 6 sc. Inc to 12. Fasten off. (Make 2).
Part 2 (Outside): Lime Green. MR 6 sc. Inc to 12. Do not fasten off.
Assembly: Place Red circle on Green circle. Sc around through both layers to join. At the rim, work *Ch 2, sl st in next* around to create the white teeth lashes (Change to White yarn for this edge if possible, or use Green spikes).
Form: Fold the circle in half (taco shape).
- Stem: Green. Ch 6. Insert a thin wire. Sew to the base of the Trap.
- Leaves: Ch 5, Sc, Hdc, Dc, Hdc, Sc. Sew to base of stem.
- Poting: Glue 2-3 traps into a small Terracotta thimble pot filled with brown yarn.

- Text: Use a single strand of Black embroidery floss to stitch a tiny “X” or “NO HANDS”.
- Stick: A toothpick. Glue sign to stick, stick into pot.

Final Assembly
- Structural Integrity: Check the U-shaped shell. The plastic canvas must be rigid to support the vines.
- Planting the Interior:
- Glue the Peat Moss bags in the corner.
- Hang the Pitcher Plants from the ceiling (use a needle to thread them through the roof canvas).
- Arrangement is key: Place the Venus Flytrap pots on the floor and on a small shelf.
- Glue the “Do Not Touch” signs into the pots.
- Setting the Scene:
- Position the Stool outside the door.
- Place the Frog on the stool, facing the Giant Pitcher Plant.
- Ensure the Frog looks like he is hesitating to enter!
Congratulations! You have cultivated the most unique caravan in the park. The “Venus Flytrap” Conservatory is a conversation starter and a masterpiece of character crochet.
