The “Ladybug” Garden House – Free Crochet Pattern

Welcome to the most whimsical garden retreat you will ever create! The “Ladybug” Garden House is a nature-inspired caravan designed to look just like a giant, friendly ladybug. The exterior features a vibrant red shell dotted with bold black spots, resting on a lush green grassy base. Step inside the open-concept cabin to find a forest fantasy: mushroom-shaped stools, cozy leaf beds, and a gardener’s station filled with tiny seedling pots, botanical books, and a dewdrop watering can. Outside, a charming Ladybug character enjoys a cup of tea at a toadstool table.

This pattern is designed for detail lovers. To ensure the rounded caravan roof holds its shape and the walls stand tall, we use the “3-Layer Sandwich Method” (Yarn – Plastic Canvas – Yarn) for the main structure. We will also switch hook sizes frequently: a standard hook for the structure and a micro-hook for the tiny “maximalist” accessories.

Please note: I strive for accuracy in every pattern, but occasional errors can happen. Thank you for understanding and for enjoying my designs.

Part 1: The Caravan Structure (Sandwich Method)

Use Hook Size: 2.5mm

Make 2 identical panels using Black yarn.

  1. Row 1: Ch 21. Sc in 2nd ch from hook and across. (20)
  2. Row 2-35: Sc across. (Adjust rows to create a rectangle approx 4″ x 6″).

Assembly: Cut plastic canvas to size. Sandwich between the two black panels. Sc around the perimeter through both layers to seal.

This piece forms the Left Wall, Roof, and Right Wall in one continuous arch. The front is open.

Panel A: Exterior Shell (Red & Black)

  • Start with Black (Bottom skirting).
  • Row 1: Ch 91 (Length to wrap around the floor: Side + Top + Side). Sc across.
  • Row 2-6: Sc across.
  • Change to Red (Main Shell).
  • Row 7-30: Sc across. (Measure against your floor width; this needs to form a high arch).
  • Fasten off.

Panel B: Interior Lining (Beige)

  • Use Beige/Tan yarn. Repeat the same dimensions as Panel A. This creates a bright, neutral interior.

Assembly:

  • Cut a long strip of plastic canvas.
  • Sandwich it between the Red/Black exterior and the Beige interior.
  • Join: Sc around the entire perimeter to lock the layers together. Use Red yarn for the top section and Black for the bottom ends.
  • Shape: Bend the strip into an upside-down “U” arch. Sew the bottom edges to the long sides of the Floor Base.

3. The Black Spots

Use Hook 2.5mm. Make 5-7 spots.

  • Large Spot: Black yarn. MR 6 sc, Inc to 12, (1 sc, inc) to 18. Fasten off.
  • Small Spot: Black yarn. MR 6 sc, Inc to 12. Fasten off.
  • Sew or glue these randomly onto the Red roof section.
