The “Vanilla Cupcake” Bunny – Free Knitting Pattern

Her wardrobe is inspired by the playful layers of a dessert. The color palette features Pastel Pink (like strawberry frosting), Cake Yellow (reminiscent of a golden sponge), and dashes of Rainbow Sprinkles. She wears a voluminous Yellow Bubble Skirt, constructed to puff out like a perfectly baked soufflé. On top, she stays cozy in a Pastel Pink Turtleneck Sweater, the collar of which is hand-embroidered with colorful dots to resemble confetti sprinkles.

To top off her look, she wears a Creamy White Beret, knitted with a soft texture to look like a dollop of fresh whipped cream. On her feet, she wears sweet Pink Mary Janes. She carries a delicious Knitted Cupcake in a pleated paper case, and she is accompanied by a tiny, cheeky Mouse who seems to have gotten a little bit of frosting on his nose.

Construction Overview

  • Bunny: Worked in the round from the feet up. Legs are knitted separately, then joined to form the hips. The body and head are one continuous piece. Arms and ears are knitted separately and sewn on.
  • Bubble Skirt: Worked flat or in the round. The “bubble” effect is created by increasing stitches rapidly after the waistband, knitting the length, and then decreasing rapidly at the hem to gather the fabric back in.
  • Sprinkle Sweater: Worked flat or in the round with a high ribbed collar (turtleneck). The sprinkles are embroidered using French knots after knitting.
  • Cream Beret: Worked in the round with a wide crown and a tight brim.
  • Cupcake: Constructed in three parts: the ribbed base (liner), the cake top, and the frosting swirl.
