Red Riding Hood Piggy – Free Crochet Pattern

Step into the pages of a beloved classic fairytale with this enchanting “Red Riding Hood Piggy.” This amigurumi character reimagines the timeless story with a sweet, pink piglet as the protagonist, ready to venture through the woods to Grandma’s house. She captures the innocence and charm of the folklore with a unique twist.

This adorable piglet features soft blush-pink skin and a round, friendly face. She is dressed in a meticulously detailed costume fit for a storybook illustration. Her outfit consists of a striking dress featuring a structured black corset-style bodice with lace-up detailing, flowing into a pristine white flared skirt. The centerpiece of her ensemble is, of course, the vibrant Red Velvet Cape with a spacious hood to cover her ears. She walks the forest path in sensible black ballet flats. Her accessories are essential for her journey: a woven-style basket covered with a red-and-white checkered cloth, holding a tiny jar of strawberry jam. Safe in her arms is a miniature Grey Wolf plushie, showing that in this version of the story, everyone is a friend. This pattern is suitable for intermediate crocheters who enjoy costume design and storytelling.

Gauge & Finished Size

Work tightly in continuous spiral rounds for the pig body so the stuffing does not show. Using DK yarn and a 2.5mm hook, the finished pig stands approximately 28 cm (11 inches) tall. The clothing is designed to be removable.

Construction Overview

The pig is constructed in pieces. The legs are made first and joined to form the body. The head is crocheted separately and sewn on. The dress is the main garment, worked from the waist down for the skirt and waist up for the corset. The iconic red cape is worked in rows with a shaped hood. The accessories—basket, jam, and wolf—are detailed miniatures.
