The Lavender Rabbit – Free Crochet Pattern

This exquisite Lop-eared Bunny features soft, creamy white fur and long, drooping ears that frame her sweet face. She is dressed in a romantic, pastoral ensemble inspired by vintage fashion. Her main garment is a flowing dress in a soft Pastel Lilac, featuring a skirt that cascades into a beautiful shell-stitch hem, creating a gentle, wavy movement reminiscent of flower petals. To guard against the evening breeze, she wears a cropped cardigan in a slightly deeper shade of purple, fastened with tiny, elegant pearl buttons.

Her accessories are essential for a day in the sun: a wide-brimmed straw-colored sun hat adorned with a silk violet ribbon, and comfortable cream-colored Mary Jane shoes. In her hand, she carries a rustic woven basket overflowing with freshly gathered stalks of lavender. Perched delicately on the brim of her hat is a tiny, pale yellow butterfly, a quiet friend joining her on her walk.

Gauge & Finished Size

Work tightly in continuous spiral rounds for the rabbit body so the stuffing does not show. Using DK yarn and a 2.5mm hook, the finished rabbit stands approximately 28 cm (11 inches) tall including ears. The clothing is designed to be removable, allowing for dress-up play. The accessories are miniature scale and require patience.

Construction Overview

The rabbit is constructed in pieces. The legs are made first, starting with the cream shoes, and are joined to form the body. The head is crocheted separately and sewn on to allow for a sturdy neck. The lop ears are long and flat, sewn to the sides of the head. The dress is worked from the waist up for the bodice and waist down for the skirt, featuring the shell stitch. The cardigan is worked flat. The hat is worked in rounds with a stiff brim. The basket uses a textured stitch to mimic weaving.
