The Gingerbread Baker Bear – Free Crochet Pattern

There is nothing quite as heartwarming as the scent of warm spices wafting through a cozy kitchen during the holidays. Welcome to the world of “The Gingerbread Baker Bear,” a delightful amigurumi character who embodies the sweetness and warmth of home baking. With her golden-brown fur reminiscent of a perfectly baked loaf and her passion for pastries, she is the perfect companion for the festive season or for anyone who loves the culinary arts.

This charming bear features a classic teddy bear silhouette in a rich Golden Brown hue. She is dressed in a “Biscuit Brown” dress that looks good enough to eat, featuring a playful white zigzag hemline that mimics piped royal icing. To keep her fur tidy while she works, she wears a pristine white apron embroidered with festive red candy canes and a voluminous chef’s hat topped with a cheerful red cherry. She stands in practical dark brown Mary Jane shoes. Her accessories are what truly bring her to life: a white piping bag ready to decorate, a silver star-shaped cookie cutter, and her newest creation—a tiny, smiling Gingerbread Man. This pattern is designed for intermediate crocheters who enjoy detailed colorwork and miniature props.

Please note: I strive for accuracy in every pattern, but occasional errors can happen. Thank you for understanding and for enjoying my designs.

Gauge & Finished Size

Work tightly in continuous spiral rounds for the bear body so the stuffing does not show. Using DK yarn and a 2.5mm hook, the finished bear stands approximately 28 cm (11 inches) tall. The clothing is designed to be removable.

Construction Overview

The bear is constructed in pieces. The head is round with a sewn-on muzzle. The body is pear-shaped, formed by joining the legs. The dress is worked from the waist down for the skirt and waist up for the bodice, featuring a specific “zigzag” stitch for the icing effect. The chef’s hat is worked with a ribbed brim and a voluminous top. The accessories—piping bag, cutter, and gingerbread man—are miniatures.
