The Sunday High Tea Bunny – Free Crochet Pattern

Our lovely character features soft cream fur and long, gentle lop ears. She is dressed in a spectacular vintage-inspired wardrobe. The centerpiece is her dress, which features a skirt constructed from individual floral crochet motifs in blue and white, resembling antique hand-painted tiles. Over this, she wears a cozy, powder blue long cardigan with a V-neck to keep the chill away. Her accessories are perfectly coordinated: a cream cloche hat with a deep blue band and a camellia flower, and dark blue Mary Jane shoes. She is ready to pour a cup of tea from her miniature crochet teacup and saucer, accompanied by her polite little friend, the Gentleman Mouse, who is dashing in his black bow tie. This pattern is best suited for intermediate crocheters who enjoy motif work and detailed garment construction.

  • DK weight yarn in Delft Blue/Royal Blue (Dress Motifs, Shoes, Hat Band)
  • DK weight yarn in Powder Blue/Light Blue (Cardigan)

  • Pair of 4mm beads (Mouse eyes)
  • Pink embroidery thread (Nose)
  • Fiberfill stuffing
  • Yarn needle, scissors, stitch markers, pins
  • A small piece of cardboard (for shoe soles and saucer base)

Gauge & Finished Size

Work tightly in continuous spiral rounds for the bunny body so the stuffing does not show. Using DK yarn and a 2.5mm hook, the finished bunny stands approximately 28–30 cm (11–12 inches) tall (excluding ears). The clothing is designed to be removable.

Construction Overview

The bunny is constructed in pieces (head, ears, body, legs, arms) and sewn together. The dress is the most intricate part; the skirt is formed by crocheting “Delft Flower” motifs which are joined together to create the “tile” effect seen in the photo, with the bodice worked upwards from the skirt waist. The cardigan is worked in rows. The accessories are miniatures.
