The Cozy Winter Puppy – Free Crochet Pattern

This heirloom-quality amigurumi features a soft, golden-brown puppy base. He is dressed in a stunning burgundy sweater dress featuring a rich cable-knit texture (achieved through post stitches) and a high turtleneck collar. To keep warm, he wears a textured earflap hat topped with a fluffy white pompom and matching boots with cozy fur cuffs. His accessories tell a story of winter adventure: a snowflake-shaped crossbody bag for collecting treasures, a vintage-style lantern to light the way, and a tiny penguin companion who is also dressed for the weather. This pattern is perfect for intermediate crocheters looking to practice detailed clothing construction and miniature amigurumi.

Gauge & Finished Size

Work tightly in continuous spiral rounds for the puppy body so the stuffing does not show. If using DK yarn and a 2.5mm hook, the finished puppy stands approximately 28–30 cm (11–12 inches) tall. The clothing is designed to be removable, adding an element of play.

Construction Overview

The puppy is constructed in standard amigurumi style with a head, muzzle, body, legs, and tail. The ears are folded and sewn on to create the Golden Retriever look. The sweater dress is the highlight, worked top-down or bottom-up using post stitches to simulate a cable knit look. The hat is shaped to cover the ears with added flaps. The lantern and penguin are detailed miniatures.
