There is something deeply grounding about the art of pottery—the feeling of cool clay spinning between your fingers, transforming earth into art. “The Potter Sheep” captures this creative spirit perfectly. She is a character of patience and artistry, comfortable in her messy studio, ready to shape her next masterpiece.
This delightful sheep features a coat of fluffy, textured white wool, contrasting with her smooth, focused face. She is dressed for a day of work in a practical, loose-fitting pinafore dress in a lovely “Clay Grey” shade, designed to allow freedom of movement. Underneath, she wears a simple long-sleeved white shirt with the sleeves sensibly rolled up to keep them clean. Her hair (or wool) is kept out of her eyes with a simple fabric-style headband. On her feet, she wears sturdy brown shoes suitable for kicking the pottery wheel. Her accessories are incredibly detailed: a miniature pottery wheel with a spinning base, an unfinished clay vase she is currently shaping, and a tiny sparrow friend perched curiously on the rim, watching the process. This pattern is designed for intermediate crocheters who love storytelling and detailed accessories.
Please note: I strive for accuracy in every pattern, but occasional errors can happen. Thank you for understanding and for enjoying my designs.

Gauge & Finished Size
Work tightly in continuous spiral rounds for the sheep body so the stuffing does not show. Using DK yarn and a 2.5mm hook, the finished sheep is designed to sit and measures approximately 20-22 cm (8-9 inches) in the seated position. The texture of the bobble stitch is crucial for the “woolly” look.
Construction Overview
The sheep is constructed in pieces. The head combines a smooth face with a textured bobble-stitch cap. The body is pear-shaped and textured. The legs are made separately with shoes integrated; they are attached to the body in a way that allows her to sit comfortably. The arms feature a “rolled sleeve” detail. The pinafore is removable. The pottery wheel is a structural piece made of stacked circles. The vase and sparrow are miniatures.
