The Promenade Piggy – Free Crochet Pattern

There is an undeniable charm to the leisurely pace of a Sunday afternoon stroll, especially when dressed in one’s Sunday best. Allow me to introduce “The Promenade Piggy,” a character who embodies the elegance and refinement of a bygone era. She captures the essence of a Victorian or Edwardian lady taking the air in the park, radiating sophistication with every stitch.

This exquisite amigurumi pig features a soft, blush-pink complexion that gives her a gentle and sweet appearance. She is dressed in a magnificent ivory gown, constructed with multiple tiers of intricate lace crochet that cascade to the floor. The dress is cinched at the waist with a broad, pastel blue satin sash, tied in a luxurious bow at the back. To shield her delicate complexion from the sun, she wears a wide-brimmed straw hat adorned with silk roses. Her accessories are the height of fashion: she carries a delicate lace parasol and a folding fan to keep cool. No promenade is complete without a loyal companion; walking faithfully by her side is a high-society white Poodle, groomed to perfection. This pattern is a delight for advanced beginner to intermediate crocheters who enjoy creating detailed wardrobes and storytelling scenes.

Please note: I strive for accuracy in every pattern, but occasional errors can happen. Thank you for understanding and for enjoying my designs.

Gauge & Finished Size

Work tightly in continuous spiral rounds for the pig body so the stuffing does not show. Using DK yarn and a 2.5mm hook, the finished pig stands approximately 28–30 cm (11–12 inches) tall. The clothing is designed to be removable, allowing for dress-up play, though the parasol is a delicate prop.

Construction Overview

The pig is constructed in pieces. The head is round with a sewn-on snout. The body is pear-shaped and sturdy. The dress is the showstopper, worked from the neck down using Back Loop Only (BLO) rounds to create foundations for three separate tiers of lace shells. The accessories—parasol, fan, and hat—are detailed miniatures. The poodle is a separate mini-amigurumi utilizing texture stitches to mimic curly fur.
